GUYS WHY IS THIS LIKE RECAP WITH A PINCH OF OVA PLEASE STOP I HAVE WATCHED SEASON 3 LIKE WHY ELSE WOULD I BE HERE. here are my main qualms about this movie :
1. WHERE IS THE MOVIE
2. why am i watching a 15 year old marry a 23 year old TEACHER at HER SCHOOL
3. I MISS EVERYONE (˃̣̣̥ᯅ˂̣̣̥) i wanted more scenes of everyone i.e. yuki, saki, arisa, rin, MOMIJI etc. but instead i got LOLITA BUT JAPANESE
ugh anyway though even though i have some serious complaints about this film, i can't say i didn't enjoy it at all. if anything, it was like
...
a parting 'gift' from the series. i had become so attached to fruba and i watched this knowing that this would be the last thing i see from them and it made me want to cherish it so much more. like i know i said i have an issue with hald the prelude being recap but also watching the recap just served as another reminder of how much i loved the series! yes, it was repetitive, but it was the closest thing to re-experiencing those scenes for the first time (´◡`) also, kyo and tohru at the end were soooo cute eheheheh
back to my main problem though...the hebephilia dawg........like we have an older authority figure psychologically (and sexually later i would say) exploiting a teenage girl at her lowest emotional point...and like he jokes about it.....and he said that he can "get away with crossing a few lines" because his father is well known in the department....DAWG no i am afraid that is predatory behaviour and abusing nepotism...like the show really tries to get away with making it seem like it's fine and normal but ermmmm yeah..

an anime hasn't left me feeling this empty in so long but it has finally happened again...these past three seasons have brought so many emotions over me and i want to etch it into my soul. i wish i watched this sooner. just hearing 'birth of a wish' puts a pit in my stomach. just thinking about the lost chances and love in this show guts me. it is seriously crazy how much this anime did to me so i will be reviewing the series in its entirety here (including the prelude so spoiler warning!)
PLANTONIC RELATIONSHIPS :
the most precious thing in fruits basket, for
...
me at least, was their depiction of platonic relationships; both positive and destructive. to be more precise: yuki/kyo and saki/arisa/tohru. let me elaborate :)
↳ YUKI & KYO :
to be blunt, their relationship makes me feel sick. the coexistence of their mutual loathing and admiration for each other was like a punch in the THROAT. it hurts to think about how they could've friends if the elders didn't condition them to hate each other and had they not been the product of the love they didn't receive. they each had exactly what the other wanted and it hurt so much watching them both think they were insufficient because they lacked that one thing. the way their relationship is written was so well done
↳ SAKI, ARISA, & TOHRU :
girlhood, girlhood, GIRLHOOD! (ᗒᗨᗕ) watching the way these three depended on each and continues to make space for one another other made me miss all the wonderful women that have come and gone from my life. to be fully honest, it made me feel a quite lonely seeing them constantly love and save each other. it felt like something that would never end. they would never part and never forget eachother. i feel so sorry for the secrets i’ve told and have been told; their debuts wasted when they were supposed to be special and ours. i found myself living through saki, arisa, and tohru - vicariously reliving the most healing connections i had in high school and regretting how i let them go. there is a certain type of comfort this gave me and i could not thank fruits basket enough for letting me feel that way again. their dynamic is always entertaining and balanced and their loyalty to their love is beautiful.
CHARACTERS :
throughout the 60+ episodes, fruba managed to develop so many nuanced characters in a way that was engaging, easy to follow, and keeps you wanting more. seriously, you know they did something right when a LOT of people's favourite characters are side characters! surprisingly for me, i had little to no trouble following this story as someone who generally struggles with shows with larger casts and it was such an amazing experience watching so many people's stories intertwine without any confusion!!!! seeing how everyone's struggles and thoughts differed, as well as how they all saw one another in contrast to how they saw themselves was one of my favourite parts of this show.
AKITO :
for someone i hated for like 59/61 episodes, i can admit that akito was incredibly well written as a villain. i definitely do not LIKE her but i have grown to understand her a little. she was raised being told that she was owed love and devotion but was denied that by her very own mother; it's no wonder she was so desperate to keep her fate/bonds with the zodiacs unchanging. although, i know we see her show remorse and atone, but i do think everyone was veryyyy quick to forgive her considering the extremity of everything she did... it felt like she just ended up the winner as always...
SOUNDTRACK :
OMFG THIS SHOWS SOUNDTRACK MAKES ME ACTUALLY FREEZE UP EVERY TIME I HEAR ONE OF THE SONGS ITS SO GOOD BUT IT GENUINELY GIVES ME GUTTING FLASHBACKS TO ME ABSOLUTELY COOKED CRYING OVER THIS ANIME. i have nothing bad to say about this so i will just list my personal favourites on the ost eheheh:
- 生まれる願い (Birth of a Wish) Umareru Negai ▸▸「Fruits Basket 」Original Soundtrack OST [Disc 1]
- Momiji's Violin ▸▸「 Fruits Basket 」Season 2 Original Soundtrack OST --> (absolute crash out material when u think about not only how good the song is but also that it's MOMIJI PLAYING IT. FOR TOHRU. second ml syndrome hits hard ༼;´༎ ༎༽)
- Fruits Basket ▸▸「Fruits Basket 」Original Soundtrack OST [Disc 1]
- Haseru Mirai ▸▸「 Fruits Basket 」Season 2 Original Soundtrack OST
- One Step Closer, Intersection
WTF ARE THESE AGE GAPS :
now that i have gotten into all the wonderful things about this anime, the one problem i have with this anime is the age gaps... shigure, kureno, and katsuya are predators guys sorry to break it to you... yeah it gives me the creeps especially with shigure with how he seems to just screw every woman he can get his hands on and has a thing for high school girls but i don't like his character in general anyway so it didn't change much for me. as for katsuya and kureno, they weren't showing up enough (in the show itself) for it to bother the harmony of the show for me so eh. the prelude is quite questionable though...like katsuya was calling kyoko a kid and there were multiple jokes about how he shouldn't be a teacher so like... they knew what they were doing with that by making kyoko (15) fall in love with an authority figure (A TEACHER AT HER JUNIOR HIGH) who flat out said he can get away with 'crossing some lines' just because his father was well known...UM OK lowkey i just got used to it atp in anime so like if i just deal with my eye twitching whenever one of these three cunts show up, i can enjoy this blessing of an anime
OPINIONS ON THE ENDING :
another (more minimal) issue would be the slight lack of closure. i have heard that the anime does not live up to what the manga provided but unfortunately, the manga art is like actually tragic so i can't im sorry...anyway yeah the last episode didn't give me the satisfaction i wanted and neither did the prelude/ova. like why am i looking at their GRANDCHILDREN. WHERE WAS THE WEDDING. WHERE WAS THE BOOMBAYAH ༼ ༎ ᆺ ༎༽WHERE ARE MOMIJI AND KAGURA'S HAPPY ENDINGS??? ugh like lowkey i could probably wake up tmr and be more mad about this but im still like having withdrawal symptoms mixed with like honeymoon phase kilig from fruba so idk might be delusional rn but u know what this kind of ending is what ao3 is for guys thank u bye
CONCLUSION :
fruba is probably the best written shoujo imo. the depiction of love and yearning whether it be platonic, between lovers, unrequited, abusive yet familial, or forgotten...this show got something right. the use of music. the development of characters and their relationships with themselves and their peers. the nuanced antagonist. the discussion of fate and doubting religion/god. queer characters! women written with meaning. dealing with taboos (suic*de and trauma). this show got it ALL right. i love it so much guys i can't even express it all in this. words are not enough. (ᗒᗣᗕ) 9.5/10

a GREAT anime to watch if you want the following: laidback/low conflict plot, yummies, ADORABLE familiars, journey/adventure plots, little-to-no fanservice, a non-overpowered MC, or simply just a break! this anime was soooo relaxing to watch and i couldn't recommend it enough ദ്ദി(ᵔᗜᵔ)
the main issue i see people have with this anime is its 'lack of plot'/character development, but i think the laidback, low tension feel of this show is what made it so enjoyable for me! i watched this as a break from watching a longer anime and it served me very well! further, i'd like to commend the kindness of all the encounted characters
...
to the MC. all the characters are likeable and nothing about this show rubbed me the wrong way i.e. pervy characters, half-naked girls, corrupt officials being a main plot point (very rare for isekais). it made all the stops at various cities way more peaceful to watch :)
i saw someone else say something along these lines...
"the two things that separate this anime from other isekais are:
1. the MC not being a prominent part of the world's 'main' story but rather making his own entertaining side story
2. no girls existing for the sole purpose of fanservice following the MC"
honestly, i agree! these two things have come to annoy me quite a bit in other animes due to it making many isekais feel like regurgitations of one another, but these differences made 'Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi' all the more refreshing! it just proves that you don't need a crazy op MC for an anime to be good. (⑅˘͈ ᵕ ˘͈ ) the first episode is very shield hero-esque in the way that the MC is mocked for his abilities but this time he's smart enough to take the hush money, flee the corrupt(ing) kingdom, discover the perks of his abilities and say "ok so i want NOTHING to do with those officials anymore...i just wanna travel and eat my food damn..." AND THANK GOD BECAUSE WE GET FEL AND SUI (ᗒᗨᗕ) tbh everytime fel was on screen i wanted to pet him so bad (༎‿༎) he's so fluffy and pretty and cute i wanna feed him all the food he wants and braid his hair and lie on his back ಠ_ಠ
sidenote: ik this peacefulness will probably change in the following seasons as he is a hero after all, but for now, i am content with this harmonious arc ٩(^ᗜ^ )و
lol lowkey my bad i told myself i should review this as the gourmet anime it is but i got too excited with the other stuff. anyway, i don't actually watch gourmet animes because i never thought they'd be that good, but this has me by my NECK its so good. the food looks so good it legit made me cook my own teriyaki spam bowl like... HOWEVER DO NOT WATCH THIS WHILE U EAT MAN I FELT LIKE I WAS EATING THE ORCS...NOT GOOD.....the food looked delicious but i could unfortunately not get over the psychological hurdle of it being monster meat............
anyway here are my ratings heheheheh
animation: 8/10
plot: 6/10 (in a good way tho lowkey)
characters: 9.5/10
enjoyability: 10/10
overall: 9/10! <3

this anime is a wholesome office romance and a top pick for a watch that lets you wind down, shut off for a little, and just enjoy fluff (⑅˘͈ᵕ˘͈ )
the absence of any gratuitous drama makes the plot very light and enjoyable, giving the show an opportunity to focus on the three main couples! the cast is small and the anime uses that to a great advantage as each couple has their time to shine. for having an adult cast though, all romantic progress was notably slow but it kinda fit the wholesome theme so i didn't really mind as far as slow burns go.
...
i hope for a second season so we can see the couples (especially our main one) develop (preferably also without any toilsome drama to weigh down the show). i give this an 8.5/10 but will round it up on mal :)
edit: i've decided i'll round it down lol SORRY

this one's for the GIRRRLLLSSSS (。•̀ᴗ-)✧
finally a sweet anime with an adult cast where the couple is established from the beginning! it's so refreshing not having to wait an entire season to see them kiss or even hold hands ouhuhuh ༼;´༎ ༎`༽ i also really appreciate that they pulled off the more intimate/raunchy scenes with minimal fan service i.e. the 'up-skirt' scene not being about eye candy of some girl's underwear for perv viewers but was actually just masugu getting flustered and thankful that she's safe with him being the one supporting the ladder and not someone else etc. because in other animes
...
that 100% would've been way more graphic (visually and inner monologue wise)...heheeheh this is for sure for the girlies ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́ )✧ and maybe it's because im a teenage girl but the sneaking around and secrecy of their affection is so cute and i'm just a sucker for it tbh.....ALSO: MUTUAL OBSESSION ಸ‿ಸ THEYRE JUST SO CUTE AND ALL OVER EACHOTHER UGHHHH AND THEY GET FREAKKYYYYYYYY (ↀωↀ)
i'll edit this once the rest of the episodes have been aired (currently 8/12 done) but THANK GOD THERE HASN'T BEEN NTR OR SOME GENUINE JEALOUSY ARC (⑅˘͈ ᵕ ˘͈ ) nothing worse than having my beautiful josei romance corrupted by some third party...if either of them start getting too friendly with some admirer this rating will be going down... i hope i'm not jinxing myself though bro like i'm gonna shit in my hands and clap

this is a review of both parts 1 and 2 (。•̀ᴗ-)ノ♡
☆ANIMATION 10/10:
this anime has got to be, hands down, one of the prettiest i've watched. it was animated so well from the sugar confections, characters, backgrounds, and even combat scenes. sugar apple fairy tale was meant to be a sweet, heart racer and gosh was it one, and a piece of eye candy on top of that. challe fen challe and anne are both ethereal and even more beautiful together. this anime actually had me kicking my feet LMAO.
HANDLING OF TABOO TOPICS 5.5/10:
however, for an anime about such sweet desires and objects, it
...
discusses quite bitter topics. the misogyny, fantastical racism, and slavery were pretty prominent elements in this show and it could be argued that they were there for just reasons, however, although the anime clearly does not advocate for such values, i fear they did not handle them the best they could have. there is quote a lot of hypocrisy in the main character for she is portrayed to passionately see fairies and humans as equals but the series opens up with her buying a fairy from the market; consequently endorsing the commodification of them even though she knew how the market worked and could have hired an actual human body guard with the money she had. regardless of if she was adamant on returning challe's wing, because she bought him at all makes it seems like she opted for the less ethical option out of convenience and to guarantee loyalty... it just made for a bit of a sad start and had me find it quite difficult to see anne is the perfect heroine the story is trying to make her out to be. this is my only qualm though. the discussion of sexism was fine. it was empowering for the most part and frustrating where it needed to be.
☆ROMANCE 8/10:
other than that, the anime was excellent and very enjoyable for me! the romance especially (ᗒᗨᗕ) i'm a sucker for the enemies-to-lovers trope so it was as expected lol i hope to see more of the romance between anne and challe if another season is to come because the ending did leave me a tad unsatisified :( LIKE WDYM SHE DOESN'T CONFESS OF ANYTHING OR CHALLE DOESN'T REALISE HE LOVES HER UGHHHHHH i just needed a little more and this anime would've been near the top of my list for sure!!!!!!!!! as another reviewer said: "i LOVE a good girly pop gets paired with surly mysterious magical dude set up." ALSO i know challe was quite the nonchalant warrior (༎ຶ‿༎ຶ) but something about how this series was done made it not feel completely one sided. sorry to reference another reviewer's comment again but, compared to kamisama kiss, challe showed more interest in anne than tomoe did to nanami. sure they were both overprotective, but challe CHOSE to stay regardless of having no other connections to anne and being given the opportunity to leave at any time (opposed to how tomoe had the shrine and stuff as a reason to stay with nanami which made it not feel as organic for kamisama kiss i guess?) LIKE YES BRING BACK MALE YEARNING. BRING BACK MEN WHO STAY. BRING BACK MEN WHO WAIT FOR YOU. im not calling challe a d1 piner though lol no he obviously isn't but i'm just glad to see at least some interest from him because there are not many things i hate more than seeing a girl pining for a guy who dont gaf about her the whole time. like it just makes me want to yell at her to stand up. so yeah i appreciate the dynamic between the two here.
CHARACTERS 6.5/10:
now, all though the lack of a confession did leave me a little hungry, what made this ending satisfying enough for me not to be angry is that it actually ended without me hating any of the characters CRAAZY IKR jonas and bridget used to actually make this visceral anger come out of me to the point where i would be hitting my screen when they got screen time. i relished in bridget's crash out IDC IDC IDC SHE DESERVED IT THEN. anyway, even though their character development wasn't anything craaaazzzyyyyy, i felt glad i didn't have to put down the show still wanting someone offed (´◡`)
PLOT 7/10:
story was good and fine even though it did kind go random at times but why was our protag a human punching bag the whole show ಠ_ಠ the poor girl would be DEAD without all this damn thick plot armour. uncool. like she gets set up in front of the royal family, does labour for hingley to compensate for a piece she didn't even break, get's ostracisized at radcliffe for being a woman and being framed as the one who set up jonas in front of the royal family, get's lured into a trap by some degens who can't fathom being inferior to a woman and feel the need to BURN HER HANDS OFF, GETS SET UP IN FRONT OF THE ROYAL FAMILY AGAIN FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW, has her MAN STOLEN BY SOME ENTITLED CUNT, is targetted by lunatic, GETS HELD HOSTAGE BY SAID LUNATIC, AND ALMOST DIES AT THE HANDS OF THE GUY. this poor girl omg (;•͈́༚•͈̀)
anyway i like this story alot idk if i made that clear enough but yeah. it made me crash the hell out especially at the end of part 1 but like i'm sooooo chill. this was a fab addition to the shoujo genre and if you're into shows reminiscent of blocks of sugar to chow down then indulge in this show all you want. i definitely did ─=≡Σ((( つ><)つ

a decent, entertaining, quick paced, satire, isekai, power fantasy that shouldn't really be taken seriously but you could definitely enjoy it as a break from more serious animes ʅ(°‿°)ʃ
the animation wasn't anything spectacular BUT it fit the plot and humour amaaaazingly, which was well executed and somehow managed to make the fan service bearable MOST of the time (not common for me). credit is probably due to the bizarre facial contortions from rista lol. the 'nymphomaniac goddess' and some of the more sexually graphic scenes were definitely distasteful though...ಠ_ಠ still, probably a hit or miss anime.
sadly, the first 10 episodes did seem like quite
...
a dilly dally regurgitation of most isekais, which just made episodes 11 & 12 feel like a rushed melodrama that came too late for me to care enough. the build up to the plot twist was decent (in terms of aria's early comments on seiya etc.) and could've been something really romantic and meaningful but seiya's reaction to remembering rista was underwhelming...he was punching her and comparing her to a bunch of medicinal herbs just a few moments ago but for some reason, as he's on the brink of death he just happens to see tiana in her? i don't buy it. it was slack. there was no reason for all the backstory to be hidden from the viewers for so long and it honestly could've made up for his annoying characterisation from the beginning - because, as it is, he is portrayed as a one-gag (overcautious) character from episode 1-10 for seemingly no reason. the show feels like they couldn't pick between a drama and comedy and so they tried to mix them last minute but it didn't work that well :(
i can't lie and say i didn't tear up at the whole "i'm glad i could save you in this one [world]" thing though, but let's be so fr i'll get like that over any doomed romance bro...i REALLYYY think if they built that up better it could've been a soul gutter (/positive). FWI THOUGH i think it's only fair to keep in mind that i may be biased as the plot twist was spoiled to me by my bf who watched this a while back if this makes any difference!
buttttt, i look forward to a s2 to (re)develop some romance (HEHEHEHEH (*σᴗσ)) and to clear up some questions i have about the world building and stuff i.e. why are there demon lords in every world, where does that big gate thing lead to, that soul tree???, how does the levelling up system work and how did seiya get stronger just working out etc. because as much as i can critique this anime, it was entertaining ʅ༼ᴼل͜ᴼ༽ʃ

i usually like otome-based isekais but this one just didn't hit for me. the main character is passive and useless, her dialogue is slack. not to mention the supporting characters...almost none of them were memorable and there were just SO MANY OF THEM ༼༎ ᆺ ༎༽ there were too many names for me to keep up with that i just lost interest. i'm sure some people would like it, i just couldn't do it
also, the art style is well done and fits pretty well with the story but personally it just isn't my taste; it's a bit too bright and too high contrast
...
for me ʅ(°‿°)ʃ

tldr; cool concept absolutely RUINED by the amount sexualisation, exploitation, and dehumanisation of women who are stripped of any sort of individuality and ambition ALL FOR A LUST FUELLED MAN. i could not even finish it.
i'm not kidding when i say this could have been so good. the concept of a 'count' that determines your time, status, and power is definitely intriguing and this definitely could've been a hit but the overwhelming amount of fan-service is such a gross deterrent. from basically the first scene, it is unbearable. i thought that it would get better (based on reviews from LYING SCUM) but it just...kept.....going...........women in
...
this story are only there to be sexualised and are stripped of any sort of ambition they had prior to meeting the male lead, licht; potentially one of my least liked mc's ever. it is extremely hard to have a likeable show when the plot lacks direction and characters lack dimension, but what makes a show the most intolerable is a fuck ass protag.
pretty much everything is centred around him, leaving no room to expand on the rest of the characters and ultimately leading to a boring cast of shallow individuals that are hard to gaf about. not only does he throw off the whole balance of the show though; he's a depraved pervert who harasses every woman he comes across and for SOME REASON ITS JUST *FINE* because he's conventionally attractive and 'cool' for saving them?????????? any sort of consensual attitude from the women ('consensual' is still a stretch) is received AFTER THE FACT that he has already inappropriately touched them ALL BECAUSE they think he's some cool guy. HE'S NOT COOL (༎ຶꈊ༎ຶ╬) HE'S A PREDATOR.
but then for whatever reason they also give him this caring and chivalrous side as if he is some hero and it just doesn't make sense because it just clashes with his perverted nature making his morals very confusing and makes it SO MUCH HARDER to like him when i literally can not fw that even if he helped win the whatever waste war idc. and i heard someone say he wasn't "really molesting the girls" because "if he was using his real strength, he could've forced them to do a lot more/open their legs" and therefore he was just pulling some sort of prank.WHAT. KIND. OF. PRANKS. ARE. YOU. PULLING??????????????????????????????????????? THAT'S STILL HARASSMENT HELLO. ʕʘ̅͜ʘ̅ʔ
jail was the only likeable character since he at least showed some character development. nothing crazy, but it was there.

mc is so aloof yet so strong...lol it's a fun & silly watch but nothing tooooo amazing. though this had a lot of potential, it was ultimately just good. most side characters were under-developed and a bit intolerable, lore and world-building were lacking, and animation wise, there was a lot left to be desired: the art style is simplistic and could be nice if you're into it but the use of cgi makes my brain hurt.
the categorisation of this anime as a romance also makes my brain hurt. there is very little...and it was very rushed...sure ashbatten and yumiella were really cute together but it
...
didn't feel as developed as it could've been :( i really liked the concept that he wanted to get strong enough to stay by her side (because in most cases it is the fem lead trying to catch up to her male counterpart) and i think it was really cute that they were so awkward but there was no clear progression in yumiella's realisation that she actually liked him. i just wish there were more moments where she was more aware i guess. it felt so one sided for so long but then all of a sudden it isn't - we got so much inner monologue from yumiella yet we never saw her figure out her feelings properly which just didn't make sense to me.
i also wish the the lore of the otome game was explored more especially regarding the demon lord previously being human! the first king's deception could've been a really awesome thing to explore but instead, for the majority of the series, we got deep dives on unlikeable side characters ;-; idk i think the last episode was just so rushed in comparison to the rest of the season which i think could have been salvaged had they not focused so much on other students levelling up and instead got to the fight earlier on and expanded on it in a later episode - that way there would've been some sort of justice/satisfaction for viewers as the kingdom would realise their prejudices against black hair etc. were baseless.
