What drew me into this show was the art. I didn't know anything about it when I started watching it, and the short Hulu synopsis did not sound like anything particularly remarkable. However, from the first 30 seconds of struggling to keep up with the subtitles, I was already overwhelmed with not just the art, particularly how the trees in the scene looked like they were made of paper stars, but how close and real it all seemed. This show left a massive and lasting impression on me. I didn't realize how difficult this would be to write this until I started, because it's so ... personal. It's not like watching shounen, where everything is loud and in your face and shiny and bright, and in that way, distant. The Tatami Galaxy is distinctly down to earth. There's a lot to take in, so I would suggest you drink something with caffeine in it before you watch the first episode.
