!!WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!!
Ousama ranking is honestly a pretty unique anime for one core reason: the characters are unique and aren't super over done. It's also the first anime that I've came back to for quite some time.
CHARACTERS: For one, just by the fact that the main character bojji doesn't follow any of the typical 'main character' traits already puts Ousama Ranking above the rest:
1. isnt a pervert
2. isnt weirdely extroverted and overly energetic
3. no immature sense of holier-than-thou moral righteousness
4. similarly, none of that brawn over brain "If I dont like you I'll pummel you" energy
5. none of that "power of friendship/love" bs
6. doesn't
...
needlessly cater to "cuteness" as its main selling point
7. beyond all this, still manages to have a personality that isnt completely a flat character
Perhaps that's me watching too much shonen/slice-of-life recently, but honestly just by the fact that the mc doesn't follow these super overdone tropes is good enough for me.
Going into the first couple episodes, I thought Queen Hilling and Daida was going to be another evil stepmother/stepbrother trope and I was preparing myself to be mildly annoyed but to my surprise that didn't happen, so that's another great thing.
PLOT: Secondly, Ousama's plot and storyline provides a perfect balance for a range of audiences. I could see this as a children's show but I also enjoyed it as a adult watcher. This makes it the perfect anime to watch with younger siblings and kids lol.
