I really tried my best to read it all but at some point (vol13) i just gave up and skipped to last chapter anyway.
This review contains spoilers so...
The story revolves around Jeremy's life, his mother gets married to this very rich english man, everything seems to be okay at first but too bad this dude is a literal sadist, a r*pist and a whole douchebag. He r*pes Jeremy multiple times, manipulates him, does everything to destroy him mentally and physically, he's basically a whole ABUSER. He also blackmails Jeremy, telling him he's gonna leave his mother (who is mentally unstable) if he doesnt
...
do as he says, so the abuse continues, until one day both Jeremy's mother and Greg (the stepfather) have a car accident and pass away. After this Jeremy's life doesnt get any better, he still suffers because of the abuse he received, goes back to Boston (his hometown) and becomes a prostitute. As if things arent bad enough Jeremy's step brother steps into the picture and everything gets even more messy, with chapter after chapter being about their complicated relationship, jeremy's poor mental health and a whole bunch of other characters that dont help him at all but instead make him feel even more miserable. He even gets in a unhealthy relationship with his step-brother and you know what? At this point my head just hurts too much, i had to give up. As for the sex scenes, theres nothing really graphic in the manga, just innuendos and very beautiful romantic imagery going around when the characters have sex but it's still disturbing. I know it's supposed to be disturbing, i know its a story about abouse and i know there shouldnt be anything romantic about it, but i really couldnt like how the author decided to tell this story. I was already familiar with Moto Hagio's work and i usually like her stuff, so i'm really upset that i couldnt enojoy this story as well.
While others found the art boring and ugly, i have no problems with that because i actually old shojo style and old manga art style, and honestly some scenes were really beautifully drawn.
I wanted to give it a 4/10, but i'll go with 5/10 because i did enjoy the art and i feel extremely sorry for Jeremy.

I've read a lot of problematic shit in the past years but this was... so bad. And such a waste of time. It feels like NOTHING. The characters are all so annoying (ML is terrible.. i dont even know how to describe him... he's a manipulator, a r*pist, unfaithful... and the list goes on and on), and it feelsl ike nothing really happens into the story, nothing changes, there's no character development and all his wives are stuck with him no matter how badly he treats them and how much he cheats on them or treats them like shit. It pains me that the author
...
is a woman because like, if her intent was to make a sexy manga about how "cool" having a harem-marriage is... she totally failed. The harem-marriage is introduced in a very random way: basically a new mayor introduces this law about men being able to have up to 4 wives and that's it. How cool! Too bad all the men presented in the story are either piece of shits, r*pists or violent. There's nothing nice about it, because we are presented with a family in which all of the wives lowkey hate eachother and the husband is terrible and doesn't help them feel better or make them be friendly with eachother. The ending was probably what disappointed me the most, i'm probably reading too much into it but i feel like there's no really a moral for this story except that if you marry/date an abuser you are stuck with him forever, because no matter what he will make you come back to him. Do not waste your time, don't read this i'm pretty sure there's better stuff about poly relationships than this. I wanted to give it a 1/10 but the art is good, so it's a 4 for me.

I started the anime because i saw the high ranking and i thought 'oh wow maybe something i'll enjoy this season'... but honestly? mh. I'm on episode 9 right now, and i still dont know if i like it or not. OP/ED are good, animation is good but the characters and the story so far?? I can't say it's bad but i can't say it's good either. It's a 7/10 for me because i can see the appeal, but i feel it's probably not for me.
Story: the beginning was interesting, but now that they have put Sherlock Holmes in the mix and Moriarty... and
...
Lupin and other random things (Jack the Ripper?? PHANTOM OF THE OPERA????? okay i guess) makes it even more random and confusing... I'll see where it's going with the last episodes, maybe the ending will make me rethink my view.
Art Style: probably one of the things i like the most so far. Very nice, it kinda fits the atmosphere and the characters. (and it what attracted me the most in the beginning). As for the single characters, i can't really pick a favourite, tho Aya is probably the one that interests me the most right now..

I've only watched 4eps. so far and i think i'll only catch up to the anime when its finished or maybe when theres more eps. out but so far... i dont really like it. I love the old anime, Mew Ichigo is my all time fave heroine but the Ichigo in this new adaptation is so... irritating to me idek why lol. I'm not a fan of the animation and honestly the new transformation scenes are a let down compared to the old ones.
OP&ED are cute, i like the songs and i think they are very catchy so they are probably the only thing i'm
...
saving for now. The new voices are kinda meh, i absolutely dislike the whole idol-thing they are doing with the seiyuu/characters and i wished they chose better VAs. Can't complain about the male counterpart because the casting is on point, i guess they did it to get more people to watch the anime.
It doesn't really hit my nostalgia feelings, so so far is a 5/10 for me, but who knows maybe i'll change my mind.

I just finished watching the series, after having it sit in my to watch list for months. What can i say... the idea i had about the show was completely different from what the anime actually IS. To be honest, i found it very mediocre. The story, the characters, their actions and behaviours felt so... unnatural to me. Sometime they even made me angry. I dont think they handled neither sexuality and teenager sexual desire in a fair way. The anime view on homosexuality is... is it even a view. I wouldnt recommend this show that much, especially to people who dislike age difference and
...
uh, also trigger warning for p*dophilia (which is also, somehow, excused in the show... i know, crazy).
Op & ED were decent, animation is... fine and the character design is cute, i cannot deny it. I really wanted to give it a 6/10, but the final 2 episodes were just SO BAD i had to settle for a 5/10. Too bad, because i had high expectations for this show, i really thought it was gonna handle teenage sexuality in a more relatable way.

There are anime you can watch without knowing anything about them beforehand and there are others anime that, sadly, need you to do some more effort before you can actually enjoy them to the fullest. As crazy as that sounds, katsugeki touken ranbu is part of the latest group of anime. Theres no other way to put it: you need to read about the game or at least some summaries about what touken ranbu is before you can watch this series. Otherwise you'll find yourself confused about the swords, their purpose and everything that is going on in the episodes, tho not very much happened
...
so far.
Like hanamaru, katsugeki was made for people who already know about touken ranbu OR want to know more about it.
STORY: 7/10
The story itself is pretty simple: history is getting f*cked up and swords who now have human bodies have the duty to fix it. Some episodes are slower than others, some might feel like being a little dragged on, but so far i feel like its very enjoyable (at least for the people who already know what kind of setting touken ranbu is, like i already said.). The little slice of life moments also make the anime very enjoyable and kinda reminds me of Hanamaru!
ART: 8/10
I must say at first i didnt really like it, but after some episodes i kinda grew attached to it. The characters look good and waaaay more better than the previous adaptation. Sometime the backgrounds look kinda... weird, but its not bothering me too much honestly. Overall i'd say the art fits the atmosphere and the characters well.
SOUND 7/10
I saw a huge fuss coming out because of the opening, some people like it, others hated it. Personally i really like it. It kinda gives me those epic-ish vibes i was expecting from this series, same goes for the ED (bless you kalafina, you are literal goddesses.). The ost itself doesnt sound too bad, but i'll need to listen to the full tracks more once it comes out to 100% enjoy it.
CHARACTERS 7/10
Here we go. Okay, so, how the characters are portrayed in katsugeki is totally different from how they were in hanamaru and how they are in-game. So what is the canon? You choose it. Playing the game made me like certain characters, and watching the 2 anime adaptations made me like some minor characters more. Personally, i love Tonbokiri because he's the sweetest guy around but Izuminokami and Mutsunokami (who's my starter in the game ah!) are also faves. Jiji is a reaaaaaally interesting character here in Katsugeki, i really like how they are portraying him. Anyway, theres PLENTY of characters for you to choose from, if you watch the series + read about them on the wikia i'm sure you'll end up loving two or even more. As for people saying the charas and the anime itself is fujoshibait... why don't you cater your attention on something else? Sure there might be some 'shippy' moments here and there, but those arent the main focus here. I can't really say the characters have extra deep personalities, but some of them are indeed interesting. I'd love for people who start the anime to not have their mind already set like 'It's gonna be bad anyway and the characters are just fujobait' because its not like this. Give these touken danshi a chance, c'mon.
ENJOYMENT: 7/10
Being already a fan of touken ranbu sure helped me enjoy more this (and Hanamaru). Maybe sometime its a liiittle bit slow and i wonder how they'll wrap things up, but i'm definitely liking it!
OVERALL 7/10
Katsugeki for me it's a solid 7/10. Not too good but not bad either. Maybe it'd be more of a 7.5 because i have to be honest and admit that there are things i REALLY like about it, but that probably arent enough for me to give it a full 8. Anyway i think a 7 is a fair score for Katsugeki and also well deserved! If the anime ends with too much of an open ending i hope we'll get a 2nd season to complete it.
