A random guy working a standard 9-5 gets killed and guess what, isekai time! This is the whole backstory of Rimuru Tempest the main character of this story. But what is Rimuru? He's a slime, one of the weakest magical creatures of all, or is he? let's find out!
Let's keep this review short because i don't think there is much to say about Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken. It's an isekai that is so fast phased it makes you feel like there is not a single pause in the narrative. From episode 2 to episode 24 you never get a moment to breath, every single
...
episode there is atleast a fight or a major event that shapes the world.
Sometimes it's hard to understand what's going to happen not because of the complexity of the story but rather the opposite, it's so linear that it's stunning how the author could jump from one plot point to another.
The only way i could describe is that rather than you devouring this anime it's the other way around, Slime is devouring you leaving nothing behind but a deside to watch the next episode. This is the strongest point for this story centered around our hero Rimuru, it's fun, it's light, it's packed with action, add a little bit of fanservice (maybe too much but still bereable) and the recipe is done.
Now since the plot and the worldbuilding of Season 1 was extremely plain, with everything happening without a real reasoning or atleast without a reason explained in a decent manner i suppose next seasons will slow down in order to work on what season 1 left behind, the world building.
Now let's get down to the critical parts.
There is no way on earth that everyone in this story are enemies and then the next episode after being defeated become best friends forever. It's fun to watch but in terms of story depth it just doesn't sound right. So if you are looking for a deep story go watch something else.
In any case judging an entire franchise from first season would be insane and i actually really enjoyed watching it so regardless of how plain some plot point might be it's still something i'd reccomend!

Frieren is not just an anime or a manga, it's a fantasy story and that's the reason behind its succes. By far the best adaptation i've ever had the pleasure of watching. I'll try to prove the reasoning behind these statements being completely spoiler free as i'm up to date with anime and manga.
The worldbuilding is basically flawless
Often when watching or reading any media we can have the feeling that the author puts stuff for a purpose and then he explains only once he figured out how to insert it in the story without messing anything up. With Frieren i never once had this feeling,
...
as i'm currently going through my 3° re-read and my 2° rewatch (this time dubbed) every time i read or see again a chapter i find new interesting details that explain many things that will happen in the future chapters as if everything was connected, thing that in most modern anime i just don't feel.
As opposed to many other stories of today's media in Frieren there are no secrets just for the sake of it, everything is explained in due time as it should be, you are never left wondering in the dark what something means or not what happens is that simply as it does occur in an adventure you don't start already knowing the end of the story, you slowly live the adventure and live it for yourself.
Characters
My opinion on some characters is also based on the manga but i can assure you that i won't spoil anything.
Frieren: simply well written, you may like her or find her annoying and that's fine! What you are going to feel for sure tho is her growth, because in the end the story is about this, growing up and becoming better humans (or elves).
Fern: starting from the first episodes where maybe you could call her 2dimensional but hey she's just a kid, it's normal that she follows what her parent figure says and she respects her teacher to becoming a grown ass woman that believes in herself, is strong, independant and an amazing human being looking out for others.
Stark: lighthearted kid who does his best regardless of how afraid he is, during the story he'll grow and he'll slowly become more aware of deeper feeling, we get to know him when he's barely a teenager but he'll show going on with the episodes that even though he is not an adult yet he is on the right tracks to become one.
Other characters
I really feel like every single character that is presented to us is well characterized, nobody is ever put there just to be there, just to be a challenge or to give us a pointless hardship. Everyone is a human being on its own and the interactions they develop are strictly linked to what a human with the same traits would do in real life.
In general i don't think you'll ever find characters that look plain, boring, useless, forced or in general out of place!
Conclusion and critique
I've read many of the negative reviews of Frieren, i wanted to undestand what people dislike about an anime that i'd call a masterpiece and so i learnt the key points people move againt frieren which are: Frieren is slow, Frieren is kinda boring, Frieren emotions make no sense, and a few other reasonings.
To which i will answer with my Conclusions.
CONCLUSION
Frieren is indeed so far a masterpiece.
I'm not gonna pretend that the people accusing Frieren of being boring are wrong, i'm gonna point out why i think that's a valid but sterile take. Frieren being a fantasy story is supposed to be set in a complicated, 3dimensional, deeply connected and narattively intense setting. To make such a thing possible sadly for some people, it's necessary to take the required time to build up all these intertwined stories and characters and to present them all in the correct order and at the right time it will ofc take a lot of time so if you don't have the patience to eat this story bite by bite but you want to eat it in one bite then yes you will find it boring but i'd argue that it is on you and not the show.
Frieren emotions make no sense, I don't think there is much to say here apart for, hello? it's a fantasy set in medieval time with mythical creatures and a whole different world compared to our i'd be scared if you were able to relate to 100% of the emotions that the characters go through, as long as it's extremely relatable since it's written so well you still need to read it or watch it knowing that you're experiencing a story composed by people that are not the usual dudes you'd meet around your block.
Personal Take
Frieren is like Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones or oher fantasy stories that shaped our childhood and not only that. Something you can watch by yourself or with your children, your parents and other individuals dear to you.
It's ironic, they got me into Frieren saying that it was a malinconic story about the journey of our lives and now i think that one day if i ever end up with a child i'd try to make him watch this show the same way as a child I watched Lord of the Rings with my family.

I'll keep it entirely spoiler free, let me start by saying that i love the genre and this was a suggestion from a friend of mine that read the manga.
The story starts like any other romantic themed anime with some cliché, one of the two main characters being a bit too focussed on something/delusional/hikkikomori or any other cliché that occurs in this genre to then evolve during each episode.
In general i want to say that Skip and Loafer is good, good enough to be enjoyed but not good enough to get you hooked in the stories of the characters.
Our main characters are Mitsumi Iwakura
...
and Sousuke Shima, they go through an evolution of their characters but in different ways, but it doesn't resonate with me since i've never knows a single person that wants to be in public administration since middle school or people that got into acting at a very young age so it's not really relatable all this story.
Also the characters seem a bit off, a bit too 2 dimensionals, for whoever watched Horimiya i'd say that Skip and Loafer misses what Horimiya nails so well, the ability to make characters evolve while interacting inbetween them with everyone both evolving as a human being and as a member of a group thing that i didn't find here in any shape or form.
I've said many things that make the story look extremely boring but maybe i'm just too biased due to the standards that Horimiya set in the past years so i don't feel like reccomending or not this anime so i'll just leave it to you this decision BUT please keep in mind that the best characters in the whole show is not even onscreen most of the time which btw is Nao.
Conclusion
If you like romantic anime go ahead and watch it, i liked it even though it's not my favourite
If you don't like romantic anime don't watch and instead go watch something like Horimiya, SNAFU, kaguya-sama, Seishun buta yarō or many others that are easier to enjoy

Is it worth watching? probably yes but get ready for some unnecessary mentions of pantsu and a dumb, blond, annoying dude.
The setting looks amazing, the story looks interesting, the characters are a bit cliché and the fanservice is cringe.
The setting is the city of london, cool place especially considering that for obvious reasons most anime don't have europeans settings, in this case London is a magical city sort of, the world has weird and well designed dragons and they are up to no good or atleast some of them. With all these creatures and magic there had to be, as the title says, witches and
...
they are divided in different groups sorted by their tasks.
Watching the prequel makes the story better since there is 1 character that looks a bit odd in the story but if you watched the prequel it should all make sense, anyway this anime made me so upset that i had to write my first review.
It looks like someone took a perfect recipe and then chose to buy expired ingredients to make it. The story is very dynamic it starts right in the middle of some action losing little to no time explaining the backgroud of the world which is fine in this case, it makes everything really engaging and it allows the spectator to learn about the backstory in a less stagnant way.
The main characters are fun and boring at the same time, you have Noel and Ninny that have very different personalities and they of course get on eachother nerves from time to time. Then you have Billy the chief of these 2 little witches, he's the typical character that looks like he's almost lost in his own world just to then realize he is smart and all and was just playing the part.
At this point you get Balgo a character that has a flat personality he literally doesnt seem to be able to think like a normal human being, as dumb as a rock and cringe, his main goal in life is watching some "pantsu" same goes for his stupid dog that keeps repeating this deside of its owner.
I just started watching this anime and i haven't read anything yet so i don't know where the story is going to go but the feeling that you get once Balgo gets on screeen is enough to turn your TV off even though everything else is amazing.
This really looks like a missed opportunity, could have been such a cool anime and story but as far as i've watched it doesn't seem to become anything above the usual anime that you'd watch when you are bored but nothing more especially thanks to the fact that it looks like it's written for a 13yo with all this pantsu here and pantsu there.
