This anime is very entertaining and has plenty of good comedy and cute romance moments so I feel like it has a broad appeal.
The characters might seem average or not too developed (especially Jun), and some character archs aren't that original. However I feel like the writers found a way to make these characters and their stories shine by the way things aren't explicitly said. Some of what goes into a character's mind is left for interpretation, especially for Carol and Misuzu. It's really interesting to see their dynamic and how they understand each other without saying anything and without having to explain it to
...
the viewers.
The romance itself isn't that special. I feel like the message of this anime isn't really about romance, but more about first love, and how to deal with new feelings and change that come with it.
So yeah, overall I really liked that on surface this anime is funny and enjoyable for almost every kind of audience, but it also has this subtle debt that keeps it interesting for people who like a story and characters with more substance.
I give it a 7.5

This is more like my overall opinion and reasons why I disliked the show than an actual in dept review. There are minor spoilers and could have mistakes here and there, as English isn't my first language.
Megalo Box wasn't that good. It was just ok. The main enjoyment I got from the show were the animation and the music. Other than that, it's pretty boring.
I don't even care that the ending was predictable. What bothers me is that the story felt rushed as hell. This should have been a 24 episodes anime. There's a reason why most sports anime have at least 24 episodes:
...
characters need to be developped for watchers to want to root for them. In Megalo Box, we never learned anything from the main character, aside for the fact that he's a natural at boxing and that he has a lot of drive to win. But there does this drive come from? How the hell did he get into the slums in the first place? Why did he want to quit underground matches? Same with his main rival, the russian dude. Heck, we know more about the kid than the protagonist. There's no reason for me to want to root for Joe when I don't know who he his and where his motivation comes from. It feels like rooting for a total stranger.
Then there's the coatch, who's personality was all over the place. We can tell he's a ''bad guy with a good heart'' kind a of character, which is fine, but it was poorly handled. It felt like his personality changed from good to bad just for plot purpose. Especially towards the end, when he became blind, he suddenly became all nice and somehow knew how to teach from sound alone. I'm not saying it's impossible, but when you loose a sense as vital as view, you need more than a few days to adapt, just saying.
And finally, as a sport anime fan, I have to say the fight scenes were not that engaging. Most were just too short to make it feel exciting, especially when I knew Joe was gonna win no matter how many times got knocked down.
So yeah, I might listen to the soundtrack once in a while, especially the catchy ending, but I won't rewatch this show anytime soon, which sucks cause the artstyle is nice. Overall, Megalo Box had lots of potential, but it was poorly used. Too bad.

Fist of all, I wanted to mention a that I have not read the manga, so I will not try to compare the two. This might explain my rating that is higher than the majority of the other reviews out there.
So, as an anime only watcher ot Tokyo Ghou, what did I think of it? I tought it was intriguing, creative, full of emotions but also sometimes confusiong. Here are some more details.
Story 5/10:
Root A picks up from where the first season started, but I think it's important to mention that this new season is not an adaptation of the manga, but more like
...
an alternative setting. A nice idea at first perhaps, but I think it was done way too fast. The script had a lot of plot holes and I could tell important parts were skipped even witthout reading the manga. I feel like a lot of things were not explained well. For exemple, at some point CCG investigators go to some kind of prison to fight ghouls, but I never really understood why or how these fights helped them advance their work. This is a good exemple of how the whole story is handled. I feel like the story was too complex for a 12 episodes anime and would have benifited a lot more of a 24 episodes run.
On the other hand, the way some parts of the story were handled was quite nice. Studio Pierrot makes brilliant usage of silences. Silences are often overlooked or just non-existent in action anime but they can add so much more to a scene. I feel lile the silences in Root A added good intensity to more simple scenes, making them feel more special and emotionnal. However, in more action packed scenes it didn't work out that well. For example, there is this intense scene where a character gets injured and the watched doesn't know if he's going to make it, and boom, we change to another scene with different characters. I feel like the changes from scene to scene were often too fast, which made some important events seem easily forgettable.
Overall, the story is not clear enough and looses the watcher easily. It feels like Studio Pierrot wanted to make this a slow paced show, which would have worked great to build tings up, but it just can't work for a 12 episodes anime. So what you get are really good just talking and building things up scenes but extremely rushed and all over the place action scenes.
Art 8/10
The animation is just there with anime normal budget anime of 2010's. It's nothing outstanding, especially for the fight scenes. Most of them are covered with smoke (probably to cut on budget costs), which make them less interesting. Some cuts were also re-used a lot, like someone making coffee or past scenes from season 1. The artstyle is very nice. I like the character designs a lot and how they don't all have the same face shape.
My favourite part of the art were the opening and endings. I thing the opening is just brilliant. Some say it's lazy, but to me it's super creative. It expresses the overal melancholic tone of the show perfectly. The ending was great too. I liked how it had different images for each episode. The drawings were really beautiful, in a watercolour style.
Sound 10/10
The music is definetly the best part of Tokyo Ghoul Root A. The amazing soundtrack caught my attention right away. The music is very fitting to the show and helps to showcase the emotions of it. I liked the overall style of the music, that I would describe as a mix of soft rock and ballads. As you would say in French, it sounds like a ''cri du coeur''. It's particularly emotive. I think the usage of a lot of different instruments and the soft rock vibes were simply brilliant. I also liked the fact that most songs are accompagned by singing, not just music, which is quite rare in anime. Finally, I liked how different it felt to most soundtracks. For example, while you would expect intense rock music with lots of energy in action scenes, here more down to heart songs were used and it worked perfectly.
As for the voice acting, it was great. Each voice actor does an amazing job at sharing the character's emotions to the viewers, in a never over the top way. Nothing bad to say there.
Character 7/10:
I feel like characters are really hits and misses. First, I think it's important to mention that the majority of the main and supporting characters get some attention. For most of them it's by telling their backstories and for some it's with development. Also, a lot of characters are really unique with different personnality traits, which make them so much more interesting. Oh, and if you lik fucked up characters, you'll love them all. Let's just say that I like when characters are not just there to be there, and this show satisfies this very well.
However, there is a down side to it. First is the way some events are brought. For example, you will have this buildup of a character's personnality. You will learn more about their pasts and why they act the way they do. Then all of a sudden, something bad happens to them. As a viewer, you'd feel attached to the character and thus touched by the sad event. But, there is one thing that made me feel pretty much nothing for some characters. It was the fact that everything happens so fast that you don't really get to feel and process the events properly, so you just easily get over sad events, even going as far as not caring for character deaths. I think it could have been great, but the fact that a lot of things were rushed just made me care for a character at first and then forget about them on the next scene.
As for our main character, Kaneki, I think he gets decent developement in this season. He doesn't get all that much screen time, but we still really see and feel that he his completely lost inside. On the other hand, some of his actions are left unexplained and it's hard for the viewer to connect with him when we can't understand why he acts certain ways. Overall, Kaneki seems like an amazing character, but he probably didn't get the treatment he deserved in this adaptation.
In the end, characters that got developement were great, but it felt like all this built up was butchered in the last few episodes. Some character were left not developped enough, which is a sad thing, because most of them were interesting. Once again, this anime would have benefited in having more episodes.
Enjoyement 9/10:
Besides the fact that I were lost by the story a lot of times, I really enjoyed the show. I cared for a majority of the characters. I felt Kaneki's sorrow, which made me want him to finally find his way. Sometimes I smiled, sometimes I cied. The soundtrack made the experience just so much better, it really made me enjoy the show a lot more.
Overall rating and final toughts 8/10:
Tokyo Ghoul Root A is not a bad show. To me, it's even better than season 1, but only for some points. The way some scenes were handled with the silences for example was just brilliant. In the end, there was just this one problem that messed everything: the 12 episodes run. I feel like Tokyo Goul could easily be the kind of show to go the Hunter x Hunter way. In HxH, some important events would happen in maybe just a few hours in real life, but are stretched out for 10-15 episodes, which makes it so much more interesting for the viewer because you can get a better grip of what's going on for each character in their actions but also inside their heads. Without stretching things this much, Tokyo Ghoul could have easily have been a 38 episodes show. It's just a shame it didn't happen.
I would recommand it anyways, but for anime only watchers. If you want to read the manga, I'd suggest you do it after watching the anime so you don't ruin your experience.

Note: I'm rewriting this review after having re-read the manga. My opinions changed a bit since I found some flaws I didn't see the first time. It's a great read none the less.
Let's Go Love! is a story about first love for one of the characters, while having to deal with homosexuality and its problems. It was told in a very sweet and somewhat realistic way and that is why I enjoyed it so much.
Story 8/10:
Plot: The is about a student who just discovered he is gay and wonders how to deal with these new feelings. When his roomate learns about his sexual orientation, he
...
accepts him and even offers to help him finding a man. This is how Komatsu ends up going on a date with a random man, who turns out to be his teacher and dorm supervisor!
What I liked about the story is the fact that it was kept pretty realistic. Instead of having the super in love student going for his teacher, we have a main charatcer that refuses to admit his emotions at first. The struggles of homsexual relationships and forbidden love between a teacher and student are touched here in there in the manga. It was not profound enough to my taste, but way more than most yaoi mangas and it was good enough for a one volume story. Overall, the story was good with no useless drama or smex.
Art 7/10:
The art is what you should expect from yaoi. The characters are pretty and all look like bishies. The uke is drawn as frail and cuter, while the seme is more in shape and has this sexy vide to him. Like most yaois, I have a hard time dealing with the huge mouths, but that might just be me. Backgrouds were nothing above average. The art is nothing stunning, but it's really pretty.
Characters 8/10:
Komatsu is the main character and gets the more development in this story as he starts from a shy introvert and get a bit more confidence thanks to sensei's and his best friend Nakajima's help. I liked how he was asking himself questions and was really self confident about his feelings and his newly discovered sexual orientation. It felt like how a teenager would really act. He was really cute too, because he blushed a lot!
Shindo-sensei is a likeable character as we get to discover he is more than just a popular teacher who is kind to everyone. I liked how he would tease Komatsu a lot. But, in the end, he was nothing special, just what you would expect from a seme that likes a shy, younger boy.
I liked how even if Komatsu's friend was a boy, the author didn't go in the ''let's make him gay too'' way, like a lot of yaoi do. He did have his gayer moments, though, because we could see he found Komatsu really cute. Actually, the relationship between Komatsu and Nakajima reminded me a lot of what you would see between two girl friends in shoujo manga. It was really sweet. I think Nakajima is my favourite character because he was so understanding and always there for his friend.
The three characters where all likeable and felt real, as far as yaoi manga goes. However, I wished we would get to learn more about them, with back stories for example.
Enjoyment 9/10:
This manga was really cute from start to finish. I liked how we could really get in touch with Komatsu's feelings and toughts. I liked how the relationships where handled. It was handled in a more realistic way, instead of having one of the characters just jumping on the other all the time in order to create way too many sex scenes. Nothing felt too cliché or over the top, it was just really cute and fun to read. It made me smile a lot over the cuteness of it all.
Overall 8/10:
Koi ni Nare! is a great pick. The characters are likeable, the story is realistic and cute, the pace is just right. I wouldn't recommand it to people who are looking for a lot of smexy scenes, because there is only one. But, if you want a nice story with a cute main character, you can't go wrong. Everything is cute and gives you feels. One of the best one-shot mangas I've read in the past months!

Sorry for any English mistakes, I am still learning the language!
One week friends is the kind of anime that makes you feel relaxed by it's slow paced story, the sweet music and voice acting and the pastel colours. The storyline and characters are nice too, which made this anime one of my favourites from this year so far.
Story: 8
The story is about Kaori Fujimiya who has a rare disease which makes her forget all her memorie of her friends each week. Yuuki Hase decided to be his friend even with that problem. We follow them in their everyday lives as Hase tries to help Fujimiya
...
regain her memories. Two other people join the group to make the dynamic more interesting. The way the story is slow but never boring keeps the anime interesting and not too cheesy.
Art: 7
At first I wasn't sure about the way the mouths and noses were drawn, but I got used to it. The pastel colours reminded me of a watercolour paint and made it really soothing to the eyes.
Sound: 7
I don't remember the music quite well, except it was sweet and soothing, so it fitted the mood of the anime. It is nothing outstanding or else I would have remembered it, but it also means in wasn't any bad. The opening and ending themes were really good.
Characters: 8
The characters all have their own personnality and none of them are cliché. I was afraid Fujimiya might be boring becaue of her memory loss, but she is not. She's actually very cute. The way Hase treats Fujimiya is really sweet to watch too. I liked how each character was interesting and had at least a little development. The cast is small, but strong.
Enjoyment: 9
This anime made me go from smile to tears. The humour is soft and makes me happy while the drama is really well handled and made me really sad and want to see more after every episode. The overall tone is nice too because it is so calming.
Overall: 8
This anime was really enjoyable and I think it could please to any fan of slice of life, friendship or romance. With only twelve episodes, the story is not completed though. I really hope for a season two, but if it doesn't happen, I plan on reading the manga because the story is completed on that medium and it is not too long with its seven volumes.
That's it for this review, I hope this was helpful! ^-^

Please excuse any mistakes, I am still learning English!
This anime is in my personal top 3 summer 2014 anime, it shows how good it is. It has a lot more to offer than what the synopsis may lead you to think.
Story (8):
It is a slice of life anime, so there is not really a main story, but it basically follows the daily life of Usa as he tries to get closer to Kawai. Their relationship is pretty slow paced but not in a boring way. It feels pretty realistic even if some events are kind of over the top (but for comedic purposes).
Art (10):
The art
...
is so beautiful with nice shiny colours that calmed me down just by seeing it. I have nothing else to say, everything is just so well drawn.
Sound (8):
The voice acting was really nice, the opening and ending songs too, but nothing outstanding. Nothing much to say here, it was very good
Character (9):
This is the best part of the anime. Most characters are quite original and we get to learn more about them in each episode. Even some of the supporting characters are a little developed, which is great because they are too often overlooked in other anime. The way the relationships are developed is slow, but it just makes everything more realistic.
Enjoyment (10):
I couldn't wait for each new episode to air and pretty much every moment of every episode was interesting and fun to watch. Some moments were funny, others more touching and I just felt so relaxed watching this.
Overall (9):
I really liked this anime much more than I thought at first. It is a must watch if you like quirky characters, romance, comedy, slice of life and a setting that is different than school.

This is one of the best shoujos I've watched so far. It stands out with it's unusual setting, great and not cliché at all characters and the great music.
Story:
It was pretty original. I like the world the author created, although I couldn't understand everything about it. The story was a bit too fast paced for my taste in the first half, but it got more well balanced towards the end. It felt a bit over dramatic to me at some parts, maybe because twelve episodes are not enough to really get into the story and feel moved by the drama. I did feeled pretty moved
...
in the last 2-3 episodes though.
Art:
The art was nothing outstanding, but it wasn't bad either. I liked the way the eyes were drawned.
Sound:
This was my favourite part of this anime. The music is great. I really like the rain summoning song, it's so touching and I can never get enough of it. The opening was pretty nice too and the ending was great. The voice acting was really good too. I liked how Princess Nike didn't have a over high pitched voice like most girls in anime.
Characters:
The two main characters were really well developed. We got to learn about their past and how they became the way they were. The way their relationship developped was really nice too, it felt realistic. Most supporting characters like the butler didn't get much development, but they were funny and interesting. Some of them could have been removed without changind anything, like the elder trio (I never understood what their role in this story was).
Enjoyment:
I really liked this anime, the first episode really got me hooked and I enjoyed most episodes a lot.
Overall:
It is a great shoujo and I don't get why it isn't more popular. I really liked the older woman with younger man (or child here) kind of relationship. It's so unusual but worked great here. A must watch for fans of romance that are getting tired of the typical shoujos with shy girls and strong boys.

I've read a lot of yaoi mangas, so it became harder to come across something that I will find really cute or really hot. This manga had these two aspects.
Story:
This is the dejà vu ''ennemies fall in love'' type of story. I have to admit the way they start ''going out'' (if you can call it that) is pretty unrealistic and had probably been done before, but they way they discover each other's feelings was really well paced, realistic and cute.
Art:
The art is beautiful. It makes you smile at how cute it is and, gotta admit it, the smexy scenes are really hot while not
...
showing anything too graphic.
Characters:
The personnality of each character is very well developed for a one volume manga. The way they act and think seems realistic and the characters are overall really nice. They might surprise you at times too!
Enjoyment: I enjoyed this manga from start to finish, it was just so cute, hot and heart warming at the same time. It expresses really well the feelings of discovering lust and sex for the first time and also how love can be unpredictable sometimes.
Overall: A really good real for any yaoi/shounen-ai fan. I feel like this book really stands out from what I read before - and I read a lot-, it is definitly one of my favourite yaoi mangas.

So I picked up this manga because I feel like I always read really light love stories and wanted to try something a bit more dark. The story is a bit dark, about a really possessive yandere kind of man, but it is not super intense with blood or really graphic rape scenes, which is good if you ask me.
*THIS PAR CONTAINS LIGHT SPOILERS*
Story (7/10)
The story was pretty nice. I liked the fact that the main character who was being harassed and toyed with by the other decided to break it off instead of just easily giving in like we often see in other
...
romances. I would have prefered another ending because I found this one to be not realistic enough, but this is a yaoi manga so this is to be expected.
*THE SPOILERS ARE GONE NOW*
Characters (6/10)
The two main characters are what you can expect in this kind of story: the possessive one and the submissive one. They were not super extreme though, which felt more realistic. I liked the third man that was introduced later on, but I feel like is development was way to fast.
Art (8/10)
I really like this kind of art that reminds me of shojo manga. All the man and faces are beautifully drawn, but I felt like the legs were way too long.
Enjoyment (7/10)
I did enjoy this manga. I liked how the story was kind of cliché, but not so cliché at the same time. I liked how the main character actually wanted to get out of his situation, that he just didn't give in so easily.
Overall (7/10)
If you are looking for a yaoi manga with a more dark story but that won't traumatize or shock you, I'd recommand it to you. The artwork is really nice on the eyes too, which makes the reading really enjoyable.

This manga was really cute and the art was so beautiful! The story was kind of cliché with your typical (but not too typical) characters, but it sure was enjoyable. I giggled a few times of how cute some parts were! Overall, it's a nice and short read. If you are looking for some deep and original story, skip that. But if you want something really cute with beautiful artwork, this manga is for you!
