Space☆Dandy

Nowhere near as funny as Space Dandy, but the visual style of balls-to-the-wall abstract animation and alien/spacey feel is really similar in both of these. If you like your anime super psychedelic and wacky, both of these are worth watching.

Both set in old Edo with some fantastic attention to period detail. If you want a real theatrical anime experience with an old-timey feel and lovely, loose animation style quite different from most of what's on TV these days - these two films make for brilliant companion pieces.

Two classic examples of 90s war/political/military anime - with a rarity for the 90s - an actually decent English dub! If you loved the plotting and scheming of The Silent Service combined with a super-serious military style, Patlabor 2 is well worth checking out too.

A completely different setting - but both shows have very similar 'pointy', shojo-esque character designs and the soundtracks are very similar too. If you liked the wistful tones of Escaflowne, but want to see a more contemporary, urban take on it, Heat Guy J is worth checking out.

Both have OP themes by the Akeboshi Rockets and go for a similar, sleek visual style. If you're a fan of fantasy settings with a focus on military engagements, tactics and an ensemble cast of both male and female roles, both of these shows give you plenty.

Both shows portray a similarly gritty 'gangster' storyline defined by revenge and brutal killings. While Gungrave has more fantastical elements and plays out over a longer time period, if you're a fan of the slow-burning, retro 'mob movie' feel of 91 Days, then you owe it to yourself to check out Gungrave too.

Similar art style, both play themselves out in an increasingly devastated Tokyo. Fighters on both sides are able to manifest 'powers' and there's also similar visual motifs like demon wings / one winged angels/devils. Also, teases of BL between the two main characters.

Grisaia no Rakuen

The military sections are very similar in tone and feel, heavily incorporating emotional backstories to build up to present day events. Also centres around a strong female character that makes a powerful impression on a younger male. The harem aspects might differentiate Eden of Grisaia, but both shows feel grounded in the values of a slick, contemporary thriller.
