Orange is one of the most underrated drama/romances in anime and I truly believe more people need to give it a chance because it is truly a shining gem amongst the rest.
Story 9/10:
The plot may come off as generic, but the compelling characters and the overall feel of the anime, plus the interesting way the story is told make what seems to be a generic story so unique. A story about a group of high school students with diverse attitudes and interests all having the same goal of saving their friend from committing suicide by using the letters of their future selves is

such an interesting and powerful tear-jerking story that should be told to all. The emotions are truly breathtaking in how they are told and you can feel it from the writing how badly these kids are trying to help Kakeru. The writing and script were so compelling yet realistic that made the story so binge-able that it's hard to put down.
The logic in this anime ties everything together. When it comes to romance, especially if it has to do with Si-Fi, it needs to have a strong foundation of logic to hold everything together. The way they tie in how time travel may work in that one lesson and how Hagita fought against it because he still didn't believe in the idea of time travel made sense. Naho's reaction of feeling like she failed made sense because if you knew you had to save someone from dying and you messed up one single thing, of course, you would feel like everything is your fault. Everything just worked together. The development, the plot points, and the emotions that sprung out from the story, even if some points weren't as believable, are what make the plot so good!
Characters 10/10
The characters feel like your average but likable high schoolers. You have an outwardly-appearing nerdy boy, but his whole personality isn't to be nerdy and is actually a semi-down-to-earth and funny guy. A calm and collected girl who stands up for her friends and can grasp their emotions so easily and isn't afraid to tell them what she thinks. A loud and energic friend who's caring and will bring bread for the group, cheer on friends during a match, or even guide a friend through hard times. You're a typical athlete who's a big softie if you get to know him but has a hard time showing his own emotions in front of others if he thinks it covers someone else's. A shy, mostly kept-to-herself girl, but is out there when it comes to her friends and helping others even if she may not think she's able to. And the new kid who's just there to start a new life, make friends, and be normal but is plagued with insecurities and depression. All of these characters feel like someone you could meet and potentially want to be friends with in real life which makes them more compelling. These characters feel genuine and you can see it in their character where their motive lies to save Kakeru. The characters go so deep that even when you find out they all have letters and tell their stories, Hagita explains he didn't believe it at first and it took him a while to believe, it fits so well because that's in his character too be more skeptical than say Naho who's a more kind-hearted character who doesn't want to take risks when it comes to helping her friends even if somewhere inside her she is afraid.
Art and Animation 10/10
The art in this anime is superb and is a treat for your eyes to look at. It's realistic, but not grossly uncanny. It's a beautiful anime art style and isn't your generic isekai art style where every main character looks the same. If anything, the characters are so unique that you could barely mistake them for other characters because of how much attention to detail the artist put into them. As well, the animation flows beautifully and can truly show the viewers how the characters feel with their faces and can bring others to tears when the characters cry.
Sound 9/10
Personally, I don't pay attention to sound design, but the sound quality and flow really stuck out to me during this anime. The music mixed perfectly with the scenes, the voice acting made the characters feel real, and just how to sounds worked with emotional scenes truly help make the story flow. A perfect example of this is when Naho is crying, sipping the orange juice. The way the voice actor delivered the "sweet, yet sour" line mixed with the s music of this scene left me in tears for the rest of the episode. Not to mention the OP and ending song are a vibe.
Enjoyment 10/10
This anime has elements almost anyone can enjoy. A complex love story, a drama-filled plot that's both compelling and dreadful, a heartwarming story about overcoming dark times, sci-fi elements, and everything that makes this show so amazing.
I can go on and go about how much I love this anime. But, you should really go and watch it for yourself. The anime is funnier in my opinion than the manga, but I do think the writing in the manga is better. Either way, you should check out both and give them a try cause I can 100% guarantee it is worth your time.
