When I first saw the trailer for this film I expected it to be an uplifting fantasy film about weather magic with a forced romantic subplot. However, I thought it looked beautiful and really wanted to see more of that animation style. I am so glad that I did.
I know that a lot of the internet says this film is an allegory for climate change but that is not what I walked away with. I walked away sobbing with a haunting recognition deep inside me that this film was about depression. Every bit of this film was dripping in symbolism.
This was a beautiful film with
...
a fantastic soundtrack. The characters are lovable, the city is endless, the plot is engaging, and the story is heart warming.
I feel like so many people were let down by this film not on its own merit but by their false expectations of what it was supposed to be. Do not compare this to another film, simply let it exist for what it is, and you will enjoy it so much more.
*some spoilers may follow past this point*
Enter young boy with bandages on his face, symbolic of his own personal damages, running into a storm without a speck of concern for his own well being. He is looking for something more from more. A rush, a crash, a burn, or in this case a tempestuous rain.
Life is hard and it kicks him to the curb really fast. Life in the fast lane is better than life back home but that doesn't mean it is easy for our young wannabe hero. Oh no, the streets are rough. The *plot device* our protagonist finds could very well just be a plot device or it could be symbolic of his own reckless tendencies or perhaps a contingency plan if he gets in too deep.
Enter the bubbly and sunny dream girl who literally brings sunshine to the world. The first time our two characters have a major interaction is up on the roof of a damaged building with a busted foundation, much like our two characters. She wears a tank top and a billowing skirt, exposed and raw. He finds his happiness, or sunshine, in the smile of this young girl. Becoming almost dependent on her.
As the story unfolds and we are told more and more of our dream girl's history and personality it becomes evident that she is struggling. She says so herself that she has become one with the sky and that sky is flooded by storms day and night. When the rain turns to snow she is cold and numb to the world. When the sky shines bright it is because she is doing it for someone else, to see someone else smile. She is fighting through the storms and putting on a happy face not for herself but for those around her. She is the sunshine girl after all.
Enter the romantic subplot and all the ups and downs of young love. A simple scene where she asks if he too wants the rain to stop and the pan of her face wincing when he says yes. She can become one with the sky and wipe all the rain away. She can give him sunshine but only if she is willing to leave him behind. A self sacrifice. She wants him to be happy and he said so himself, he wants the rain to stop. He cannot be happy with her and the raging storms.
I could go on and on about the symbolism I read into this film but I recognize it could all be personal bias and will leave it merely as a suggestion. This was a beautiful film and it shook me to my core.

You know, this anime was pretty standard as far as shoujo is concerned. Most of the characters are pretty undeveloped or just standard tropes, the chemistry between characters is flimsy at best, and the plot is a bit silly. That being said...IT WAS FREAKING ADORABLE.
Sometimes you really just need something cute and wholesome in your life to make you whimper like a child and get the warm fuzzies. This anime certainly delivered that and I enjoyed every moment of it.
Do not go into this expecting it to be ground breaking, unique, or insightful. Go into this expecting something cute and feel good that leaves
...
you feeling better about your sad life for half an hour. If you go into it with those expectations you will really enjoy the series.
The artwork is cute, the music is happy, the episodes are short and sweet and to the point, the characters are interesting enough to make them memorable but not so developed that you find yourself overthinking them, and the feel train is going strong.
P.S- Takeo is hideously drawn at some points and handsome as fuck in other scenes and I adore it.

Honestly, I went into this show fully understanding and desiring to watch a dumpster fire. I expected it to be chalk full of unwarranted fan service, lewd plot lines with no real development, cute girls in compromising positions, and for it to be bursting at the seams with standard harem anime tropes and tricks. I was prepared for it to be terrible and for that reason, and likely that reason alone, I left with a sense of fulfillment.
This is not a good show. The plot is vague, the characters lack development, and there isn't much in the way of story progression. That being said,
...
it was a lot better than I expected it to be and better than it had any right to be.
The characters are adorable and the ever changing "camera" angles and mood swings of the show really keep you on your toes about whether or not the two siblings actually want to bone.
I personally do not think the older brother loves the younger sister in a sexual way. It seemed to be more framed around his desire to have family in his life and she was the closest he could get. She was a lewd little girl and he was constantly having to tell her about how her behavior was inappropriate. It did not stop there either. He was constantly having to fight a harem of middle school girls off of him whether it was physically, emotionally, or mentally. Those girls lack basic boundaries and social skills.
Sagiri really should not be entering any form of relationship, romantic or otherwise, at this point in her life. She has enough social anxiety to keep her busy in therapy for the next few years. She really needs to focus on herself and her big brother should really be more involved with helping her during this mental spiral.
Elf is one of the most annoying characters I have ever experienced. Everything about her made me want to slam my head into a wall. She really needs to find some real self confidence and stop flaunting her false sense of identity in everyone else's faces. She has a lot of personal baggage she needs to sort out before attempting to force this poor schmuck into a long term commitment.
The quiet girl seemed to most reasonable out of the harem but even she had some major issues. She is a bit of a stalker and kind of creepy. She needs to stop using other people to distract her from her own insecurities and personal issues.
Then there was that one girl who says she really likes diccccckkkkkssss and then pretty much disappears from the series entirely. Not sure what the point of her was.
Not saying the big brother is an angel. He struggles with his thoughts, feelings, and desires just as much as the female cast. He just seems to have a better control over what is appropriate and what is not. It could be from his "responsibilities" as care taker and provider. I found myself feeling bad for the guy.
I am rambling at this point. Look, it is not a good show and it is full of lewd angles and bad jokes. It is inappropriate, somewhat uncomfortable, and nothing special. It does, however, have cute art and decent story flow. The characters are just barely good enough to keep you giving a shit without actually getting invested in them. This is one of those shows you watch because you are trash and know it.

I honestly set out to watch this show because I love dumpster fires and this seemed like a good bet for some self inflicted masochism. I was somewhat surprised, and a little bit disappointed, at how much I enjoyed this series.
The characters are bland, dry, and given a singular defining characteristic each. With the exception of best girl Rui, none of the characters show much development at all. The series is very disjointed and they feel more like general ideas of functioning human beings than fully fleshed out characters.
The series starts with two teens getting it on in the name of science. I
...
mean, what better reason to lose your V card than simply because you want to understand what it means to have sex? Sudden plot twist shows that the two horny teens are now siblings! What a twiiiiist.
As it progresses you get to meet the rest of the wannabe harem: a hot sister sensei, a bodacious babe with a tendency to flock towards any male willing to give her the slightest bit of attention, and a shy green haired cutie that really doesn't want to be lumped into this harem. Don't get too excited now, only two of the girls really enter the picture beyond a mere mention of their existence.
The younger sibling, which I already introduced to you as Rui, is a socially awkward blue haired beauty that really just wants to feel literally anything. She is like a robot in a flesh suit just yearning to feel any tingles of those pesky little things called emotions.
The older sibling, who was the main protagonists love interest and teacher long before becoming siblings, is a drunken mess of a human being that is currently partaking in an affair with her *gasp* old high school teacher! Anyone detecting a bit of foreshadowing here?
Pick your ship now: big sister or little sister? If you said big sister you are garbage and cannot sit with us. Anywho, the love triangle follows the three now siblings in the ups and downs of what it means to be a horny young adult with no sense of self control. The whole being siblings thing could really be played up more as it kind of falls into the background which is sad because I am a garbage human being that wanted some more incestual mockery to occur. How in the world did the parents not notice any of the steamy sibling on sibling action going on around them? I guess they too were probably too busy boning to give a shit about the real world.
Our horny protagonist gets the best of both worlds for the better part of the series until the older sibling realizes that he has legit feelings and not just puppy love and the younger sibling has one of those "whoa, what is this feeling? Is this a feeling?" moments and realizes that she may actually like this empty shell of a plot device. There is the usual will they or won't they back and forth in the relationships as the series attempts to give you emotional whiplash but all in all it falls together rather nicely.
So what reason do I have to rate it as good instead of it being rated as the total mess that I clearly reviewed it to be? Well, the answer is pretty simple really. I am trash and the show gave me the feels.
It is not handled the best and the characters could really use a personality dialysis but the story line (what little there is) is pretty decent and by the end I found myself audibly rooting for my sister of choice, much to the dismay of my partner who did not wish to be inflicted to this trashy soap opera of an anime. The art is really pretty to look at, the music is decent, the opening theme is fire, and the way the first season ended was exactly what I had secretly been hoping for. I love when unrealistic happy endings are ripped away from the cold hard hands of the fans.
Look, this series is not great. It is probably pretty bad to a loooooot of people. If you like soap operas, trash television, hentai plot without any actual sex, not like we are blood related sibling love, or just making yourself suffer than you may actually enjoy this series and should give it a shot just for the fun of it.

*I would like to preface this with I have not played the games and this was my introduction to the series as a whole*
Well that was absolutely dreadful. I am not sure who thought it was a good idea to turn a dating sim into an anime but they really did not think it through very well. In visual novel style you have some control over the path that you take and the characters at least stand a chance of development and growth. There is time allotted for you to develop an interest in the characters, the plot, and the romance. Without the ability to
...
choose that path all you are left with is cheap pandering torture porn that is not even well done.
As far as the art is concerned, I actually really liked it. That is the main thing that drew me to this dumpster fire of a production. The characters are genuinely attractive to look at.
The sound is okay I suppose although it does sound like you are watching a cheap low quality hentai during many scenes. Lots of dramatic breathing, screaming, and moaning.
The characters are hard to rate as you do not get the opportunity to learn really anything about them besides the fact that they are a harem of brothers that happen to be vampires. I will say that the anime makes you want to know more about certain characters and that may lead you to delve into the numerous games involving them but the anime itself is really lacking in the character department. They are just blank empty shells thrusting abuse in every direction.
My enjoyment of this series was very limited. There is one character that peaked my interest and the art is nice enough but that is really where my enjoyment stopped. If you are a masochist you may enjoy projecting yourself onto the blank slate of the heroine, if you are a sadist that likes to watch women suffer you may find yourself projecting yourself onto one of the numerous abuse inflicting vampires on screen, and if you are a fan of oh so edgy harems you may enjoy the premise of it.
If you found yourself enjoying this, even if just enjoying the idea of the premise, I advise and implore you to check out the games and other source materials. This anime is garbage but the rest does not have to be. I will likely not take my own advice as this anime ruined it for me.
