100 gf is peak, and a little repetitive at times, but you should know what you're getting yourself into when you read it.
It is parody of the typical harem genre, but it is high quality parody.
Art: The art is superb and really adds to the cutesy, fluffy vibe of the manga
The character designs, too, deserve praise, because currently all ~30 (as of ch194) girlfriends have distinct designs or at least features to recognize them even with chibi form.
Plot: Pretty episodic and formulaic, typically as of recent chapters, its introduce new gf, dedicated focus for 2-3 chapters, some 1 or 2 miscellaneous chapters, repeat.
Given it's parody
...
and romcom nature, 100gf doesnt take itself seriously at all, with frequent 4th wall breaks, and pop culture references to other big manga.
Characters: The only thing that is serious in this manga are how much Rentarou cares for his family, and this man will make sure everyone knows it- They are one big happy family. Another to understand is that its not just about Rentarou, one of the best parts of the manga is seeing the girlfriends interact with each other, they all have intricate relations with each other within the family and how they play off each other is what makes up a large part of the fluff.
I will admit, it is hard to deny that some characters fall into the stereotype, but it is aided by their relations to the others, as well as the author coming up with pretty original and unique character tropes, such as with shuu, saiki, eira, nano, etc

Very good read. definitely recommend.
Shirone is a amazing protagonist, we watch his journey from being a commoner to entering a prestigious magic academy and meeting very interesting supporting characters along the way.
Although he is strong, it never feels like an asspull or a gary stu moment, Shirone is very new to magic but very talented and dedicated.
Season 1 introduces and establishes a lovable cast of characters:
the Ogent family- nice a friendly rivalry, and a strong ally to have
Amy- Peak tsundere, best storyline I WISH WE SAW MORE OF AMY AND SHIRONE
Sienna and Etella: both, both are good
Eruki and Neid- I was apprehensive towards them at
...
first, Eruki was kinda rude at the start and Neid doesnt seem like a good influence, but glad they have a brotherly bond now
Season 2 is what made me write this review, Season 1 was full of heartfelt moments and magic academy shennanigans, it was wonderful to watch Shrione slowly grow as a mage. The conflicts were simple and contained in small arcs. Season 1 ends with half a chapter of foreshadowing and Season 2 DIVES HEADFIRST INTO SOME DEEP CONFLICT BETWEEN THE HEADMASTER AND THIS DARK MAGE WHO WAS HIS FORMER MASTER. I DONT CARE ABOUT THE STINKY OLD MEN, GIVE ME WHOLESOME SHIRONE MOMENTS. so far, about 13 chapters of season 2 have been released, and its like the editor wanted more conflict? I feels poorly paced and a tonal shift from season 1 that I HATE. There was no build up besides that half a chapter of season 1 finale, and season 2 immediately goes into this annoying confict. Hopefully this "war" only takes half the season max, so we can get back to amy shirone content like how it would've gone if it werent for amy being affected by the memory spell when Shirone went to visit her.
So far:
The dark mage and his apprentices prisonbreaked some guy (nobody noticed? where are the cops)
They kidnapped EVERYONE in the academy and put them under their control (why did they only recruit 1 guy to join them, the apprentices hate him anyway)
Shrione, Neid, and Eruki, are the only ones (besides Thad and Etella) unaffected by the brainwashing, the story seems to imply its because of range but they were in the clubs room, surely theres a bunch of students there
Thad has to recover the headmaster's memories (WHY DID THAT LOSER LOSE HIS MEMORIES ISNT HE SUPPOSED TO BE THE STRONGEST ONE THERE??? GREAT NOW HALF OF THE CHAPTERS FROM NOW ON ARE FLASHBACKS I DONT CARE ABOUT. APPRENTLY THE HEADMASTER IS A BAD GUY AND BETRAYED THE DARK MAGE? BIG WHOOP HOW AM I EXPECTED TO CARE FOR A CHARACTER YOU'VE ONLY JUST INTRODUCED??)
Etella has to stall the dark mage
Shrione and co. vs the apprentices and random dickhead
The fights have been ongoing for what feels like 10 chapters AND THEYRE ALL AT STALEMATES, THE FIGHTS HAVE NOT PROGRESSED SINCE THEY STARTED (except for maybe etella? Please dont tell me she got killed ;-;)
Siena apparently is so strong that even without memories her body can fight? and she casts big aoe ice magic before falling unconscious (MIND YOU SHE STARTS SLEEPWALKING NOW *AFTER* BEING THROWN OFF A CLIFF and saved by Shirone, seems pointless since after Eruki melts the ice, Siena is back to being comatose)
Tldr: just bring back the story structure of season 1, season 2 is hard to read
Season 1: 9/10 maybe even 10/10
Seaon 2: 4/10 so far

Seems generic. Maybe I'm misjudging but from 30 chaps so far, MC seems like a gary stu
The synopsis says "he can enroll in the prestigious Phileon Academy and become the strongest swordsman the empire has ever seen!" but off the bat it seems he already is the strongest, given how nothing is a challenge to him. 1v3 against the top seniors- no problem, Rock golems- just need a few swings, a mysterious cult involved in his past life- speed blitz 'em. I was really holding out for the 2 cultists to prove to be a challenge, given how they seemed competent and how everything seemed
...
to be a cake walk so far; I thought: "Yes! a worthy opponent to push Ronan, a brilliant adversary to overcome and reach greater heights! They have connections to his past and are being hyped up, the author must be showing Ronan is far from where he needs to be and set a goal for him to reach!" only to be disappointed. The only person that managed to be of any challenge was instructor Nabirose, who is in the top tiers of the universe so its not saying much.
ch23 is the best, the adeshan drama is the only interesting part of the story. Though in the same chapter, Ronan starts "intimidating" people, which looks silly given his plain character design, and lack of aura, juxtaposed with lines such as "compliantly, get fucked" and "just get fucked" comes off like a middle schooler wrote the dialogue.
His sister's storyline is wholesome, but we dont see enough of her
Potential plotholes:
ch25 if Ronan came to the blacksmith to get a sword that could withstand his strength, how did he easily cut down several rock golems, without breaking his old sword before receiving his new one?
ch 29, if the cultists are under some curse that prevents them from speaking of some secrets, how could they mention "starlight" to ronan in ch26
Pros: long chapters, easy to binge

Not reccomend 3/10 maybe even 2/10
TLDR:
i read like 17 chap
first 10 are ok
then everything previously established gets flushed down the toilet
ok so the WHOLE POINT is that they are a group of throwaway assassins raised by this clan right
trained for 7 years to kill this ONE guy
the DAY OF THE ATTACK, the employer comes by and sweeps the clan, rendering EVERYTHING POINTLESS
also the characters are bland as hell
...
I will try to make an organized and comprehensive review after reading like 17 chaps
First, I will go over the plot points and abhorrent writing:
=The WHOLE POINT OF THE STORY
-they were assassins raised for 7 years to assassinate this one guy but that gets swept under the rug, instead THEY DONT FOLLOW THROUGH BECAUSE SOME OTHER CLAN HAD TO ATTACK THE ASSASSIN HEADS ON THE DAY OF
=Curse Poison
-so the heads keep the kids in check with this poison they can activate if they play a flute, cool.
-mc has poison resistance, so far so good.
-mc tells his 3 peers about it and turns out Lee Min knows about poison and helped negate it, okay, how does she know this stuff? i mean cool... i guess shes important?
-see point 1, the emei clan wiped the dark blood cult do this ultimately had no point
=The collapse
-who is this "Emei clan" that the author shoved in last minute to throw away all the previously established plot points
-so all the "talented" kids turned out to be fodder and heavily out matched only the main 4 left (even though i liked the white hair boy, i guess hes dead)
-refer to point 2. Lee Min slowly dies in front of mc. problem 1- how did she get away, the enemies are strong enough to oneshot and shes bled a trail mc followed. problem 2- SO WHAT WAS THE POINT OF HER CHARACTER, shes been positioned as a love interest but never interacted anymore than a regular peer, sure MC is compassionate but DONT MAKE IT OUT LIKE HES GETTING REVENGE SOLELY FOR HER, LITERALLY HE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT HER like "oh no, my nakama who i barely interacted with, but the author seems to think we have chemistry despite not being set up as a couple, I will get revenge for you even though theres nothing keeping me from just living a normal life now"
-the dark blood clan is gone, so curse poison is worthless and the kids can just leave scot free, why dont they leave, are they stupid?
-Sure, they dont know the heads are dead yet, but it looks seems like the author wants MC to go for revenge against the guy they were hired to kill?? not even the employer?? for the sake of Lee Min???
some other minor gripes are how MC changes so quickly from a regular kid to a loner, and his hair turns black?? thats not how that works. If it were just dirt, everyone would have black hair, NOT TO MENTION THE 2 KIDS WITH WHITE HAIR
and the author really sucks at writing female characters, 3 spotlighted female characters and they all have no personality traits besides being kind and maybe leadership/ combat capabilities

disclaimer: NOT YURI (despite how convincing the beginning makes it seem and how much more chemistry the FL has with the empress than the prince)
what a bait- the beginning chapters are all of the Empress and the FL being cute, and then the prince gets introduced in chapter 6; There are 5 whole chapters before the main love interest even gets introduced LMAO
They had a lovely competent guard x arrogant brat dynamic
This was so intentional by the author to lure in a larger audience; Treason of the highest degree
Art is 10/10 but i cant forgive the author to have decided to pull a bait
...
and switch on us. Read the first few chapters and you'll see how much of a bait it was

Just read [Demon King of the Royal Class] instead of this. its better in every way (in my opinion ofc)
I thought this manhwa would be interesting because it heavily reminded me of that other manhwa, but 20 chaps in and Im starting to hate this the more I think about it. So heres my rant.
The description:
I possessed a third-rate extra villain character in my favorite game. I have no ambitions, and I just want to live a quiet life. (Ed has every opportunity to leave and distance himself from the story) But sheesh, this world is a hard place to survive in. I will survive
...
to the ending of this story, in a way the protagonist cannot. I will survive in the way of a third-rate villainous character. (By the end of the first arc, everyone likes him or at least no longer hates him, so what villian is he really?)
Art:
The art is decent, pretty standard style of shounen manhwas. My problem with it though is the paneling and aesthetics; There are barely any creative paneling, or rather, only the most stiff and boring paneling exists. Theres either the borderless spread page, or a large, centered block panel, barely anything else, which wouldve helped with fights especially. (ex. when Ed fights the rabbit, it looks like the rabbit was being useless and let him shoot its master, when really Ed dodged its attack and made the shot, something a closeup panel wouldve helped clarify)
My other problem is the video game aesthetics, this is a videogame isekai, so no suprise they exist, but its as if the manhwa almost forgets. SO FAR, there have been only TWO instances of Ed's stats page , NO character menu shown of anyone else, and the only thing that reminds the artist to include the video game UI are the items that get shown a couple times randomly every arc (NOT THAT IT MATTERS BECAUSE THERES NO WORLD BUILDING AND THUS NO SIGNIFICANCE, which ill rant on later)
Characters:
They're all pretty boring. I liked Janica in the first arc, AND THEN SHE GOT STRIPPED OF ALL AGENCY AND REDUCED TO A MINDLESS LOVE INTEREST.
The manhwa has a habit of exposition dumping/ introducing new characters to move the plot, which ends up turning everyone into a plot device. The biggest perpetrator of this is Lucy, the top magic student, who is the deus ex machina of the first arc. Oh so this great mage gets introduced as OP but sleeps all the time, she sleeps in Ed's camp randomly despite being afforded a dorm, a pretty cheap way of forcing them to interact/ be friends. The climax of the first arc has a dragon that has a shield nobody in the main party can break. But because Ed played the game he knows exactly where Lucy would be sleeping (even though canonically in the video game shes supposed to not be involved in the first chapter so how does he know?) and gets her to break it. While im at it, I'll point out how Ed "the worst student in the magic faculty" Rothtaylor cut the dragons neck clean off with a basic skill in one try.
Phoenia was cool, I liked her in the first arc, TOO BAD SHES GONE FOR MOST OF THE SECOND ARC.
Taylor, the original protag, is a huge plot device, with no personality of his own. He just serves to drive the plot, since he HAS to be the one following the story, the manhwa is just Ed setting up everything else for Taylor to complete.
Taylor's childhood friend- who? she does nothing at all
Lorthelle was meh, her setup in the first arc was interesting, especially since it created a interesting dynamic with Janica, being omniscient essentially and watching her try to recruit Ed. Too bad the exposition dumps made her story confusing.
The MC Ed, is bland and uncompelling. Whats his goal? Why is he doing all of this? Hes like a Gary Stu, how he easily earns his achievements. Again, he is presented was the worst student, but after what? living outdoors for a month? Hes suddenly got "high magic proficiency" For abilities like "ignition" and "windblade" to instantly set an entire room on fire and cut metal chains, Ed sure earned his proficiency by lighting campfires? and cutting wood? No stakes for him, and nothings a challenge.
Story:
Its like the author is making stuff up along the way, no, even if he did, the pacing would be smoother. For example, Ed earns the ability to make a spirit contract during the first arc climax, so why doesnt he form a contract after the arc is over? (is he stupid?)
I like how after the first arc destroys the school the second arc immediately returns to tearing up the school, with little downtime. Theres no school/ class plot, which is fine but would've better developed character relations and I'd like to see them interact since SOME CHARACTERS JUST MEET ED "THE RUMOURED ROTTEN EVIL GUY" Rothtaylor for the first time and immediately decide to befriend him. *cough* Jikks, Janica, Jikks GF *cough* Jikk's does have a good reason to like Ed but he really flipped his opinion of him 180 degrees within minutes. BY THE END OF THE FIRST ARC EVERYONE LIKES HIM SO WHY DID THE AUTHOR SET HIM UP TO BE DISLIKED IN THE FIRST PLACE IF IT BARELY MATTERED!?! NONE OF THIS RELATIONSHIPS WOULDVE BEEN AFFECTED. AT LEAST SAVE IT FOR THE END OF THE FIRST SEASON
There is no reason why Ed lives in the forest, Janica's maid, the one who kicked Ed out of the dorms no longer hates him, in fact has shown favor towards him, and he is still a student at the academy, so it makes no sense why he shouldn't be offered residency.
I noticed theres a lot of exposition in the second arc, almost like the lines suit a novel format better, which makes me think this is just a bad adaptation. Some lines would make more sense as a thought bubble but its just a paragraph of narration.
About worldbuilding, yeah, it doesnt exist. The world is limited to the school lmao. 'we cant introduce the outside! It would be too hard to explain why Ed chooses to stay at the school instead of living a commoners life in town, yknow, like the quiet life he says he wants in the DESCRIPTION??' Phoenia introduces the existence of corrupt nobility? TOO BAD! we arent gonna explore that because its outside the school! Lortelle has a evil merchant king boss as a guardian and drama from the fact he killed her bio dad? Oh we'll just make him come to the school to settle that drama! No need to explore outside the school! Oh Jikks comes from a wild tribe? Oh Janica introduces the existence of spirits? Oh the Rothtaylor family is large and actually corrupt? LETS EXPLORE NONE OF THESE
Its like there was a checklist of archtypes the author wanted to complete and shoved all these characters haphazardly into this manhwa with half a thought allocated to each of them.
2nd arc:
Oh... thats the beginning of a harem...
Oh... Janica is gonna become a yandere... :/
Why is Alice an enemy? She betrayed Lorthelle, who was supposed to be the boss, so really isnt Alice just doing her job as head maid? And Lorthelle avoided any punishment, i guess nobody caught on that everything was her plan?
Thanks for coming to my TED talk

Is spoiler warning necessary if im talking about the first 4 chap?
art is good but the storytelling (so far) is horrendous
chapters 1-3 goes back and forth between present and past which makes it super hard to follow, especially since theres an abrupt cut at the start of chapter 3.
everything is so horribly explained but what I got was MC got reincarnated as a hybrid created by a crazy evil necromancer. Theres also a bunch of siblings? but apparently a bunch got killed and infused into MC. why? no clue. Theres also some other siblings who have hybrid powers as well, they dont seem to get
...
along well, except for one who MC saved? By the time the story starts a bunch of stuff has already happened, all of which we only know from brief exposition dumps.
The hybrids were created with the sole purpose of protecting their "father" but MC just up and killed their "immortal" father before the story begins and just """"inherited"""" necromancer powers?? However, she is still the weakest among them for some reason? She says she can only run away if any of them show up? How did she kill her OP dad? How did none of her siblings stop her? What Happened between then and now?
Chapters 2-3 are just exposition and chapter 4 returns to where chapter 1 left off. ML being left alone with his holy sword in MC's house swarming with evil creatures. Of course ML is going to be hostile. Theres only 4 chapters so far, I dont see MC winning in chapter 5 but I know she will somehow. The art is good but thats the only thing going for the series. Try to see if you can follow along. I'll see if it can redeem itself

I have read this on and off months apart so I recognize my review may not be completely accurate. I like the start so try it and make your own opinions. I am curious what ppl think
first 100 chaps, pretty much what youd expect, goes through Ihwa becoming an fake hero. Pretty standard shounen genre. 7/10
Some plot stuff I felt iffy about
After a year, I return to ch 92, I notice:
a lot of cleavage- too much fanservice its hard to take anything seriously
I be reading casual dialogue/ exposition dump and boom, super rendered breasts
LIKE IHWA IS DROWNING SOMEONE IN HER SINK WE DONT NEED
...
DETAILED FANSERVICE (ch100-101 if you want to see what i mean)
a lot to be desired with the plot
rip shell knight
all the characters feel disposable, why should i care for any of them? no plot since i picked up
Like after ch90, has any action gotten her closer to solving the mystery?
Rant and spoilers:
HAHAHAHA SO APPARENTLY "CHAIN' HAS THE ABILITY OF REWINDING TIME, basically a better version of eri's quirk from MHA MAKING THE WEILDER ESSENTIALLY IMMORTAL???? WHO DESIGNED THIS??? NO EST DRAIN EITHER (why is it spammable) ! OH BUT THE CAVEAT IS 'i feel a little unwell after I rewind each time' BIG WOOP. IHWA CHEATS DEATH EVERY OTHER DAY (John's baby ability and now chain's sword ability)
Theres a big fight around ch128 and as far as I can tell, Nenya just got killed, with no buildup too. Which feels like a huge waste of story? Nenya was picked up my Ihwa ON A WHIM. Nenya being a super powerful powerup in the body of a child. So Ihwa, being on a revenge quest, decides to reject the power amp, but instead adopt the child and liability. I do forget how she adopts her but I remember thinking this was out of character. Anyway, shes dead. And a pretty strong enemy ended up getting stronger because Ihwa didn't take the powerup sooner!
This leads me to my other complaint of how it doesnt feel like characters are getting stronger? Ihwa from the first 90 chapters got some abilities? but now she hasn't really been getting new powers besides like one from a really sudden fight (and even then, it turned out to be worthless, of no help as of where i am-ch128) We are shown how strong to top ranks of hero society (the elders) are during their group conflict, and ihwa has a really long way to go. Even Engen says he isnt strong enough, leading him to go to some tower to get stronger (much of which we dont see, we just see him arrive and summon some shadows, and next we know hes out and got stronger) Currently, Ihwa can easily beat random heroes, even some elites, but the "big name" heroes, she needs someone to bail her out or backup. Who knows, maybe nenya isnt dead and gives her the powerup she needs.
TLDR;
plot: 5/10
art: 6/10
characters: 6/10 (i liked shell knight, shes like the only character recently who even stood out, other than her everyone dies or barely does anything before leaving)
I like the concept and I definitely believe Hero Killer can get better.
Ihwa needs to be stronger. EVERYONE in the story has been hyping her up CONSTANTLY and I dont think shes living up to it.
I think the first 90 chapters werent so irritating for me because there was the sense of accomplishment: Ihwa was becoming a "hero." Now that she graduated, it feels like she isnt doing anything to reach her goal of avenging her sister. Theres paladin who knows sometihng, but he fight just have died already in the most recent fight i dunno~
OH YEAH IHWAS DAD IS JUST ROAMING AROUND IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE BY THE WAY

Its above average for shounen manhwa, theres some mystery and stuff to stick around for (I'm waiting for demon possession/summon) but I PERSONALLY dont think the plot is that tightly written. 5,
Kinda generic and everything is based on plot convenience, very quick to contradict previously established facts like status traits
the status negative traits dont matter much. One of the two debuffs to counter MC's 2 broken genius traits get instantly removed with just some random items at the start (effectively doubling his growth rate with just some store bought items), his horse's time-limited debuff gets removed by reviving it (WHICH SHOULD ALSO APPLY TO
...
HIS OWN SIMILAR DEBUFF [terminally-ill]), and his maid's [spy], [proficient liar], and [machine-like] traits dont mean shit WHEN SHE FOLDS AT THE FIRST QUESTION AND INSTANTLY BECOMES EMOTIONAL FOR THE REST OF THE ARC (I am on ch18 and only met her for 2 chs).
MC should be a lot weaker than he is but we don't see alot of his suffering, by the time he gets [genius hour] he's effectively OP seeing as the third time he uses it, he can off-screen a miniboss
MC is a pretty typical shounen manwha MC, selfish and rude, I know he wants to stick to the OG plot for some reason but his actions have already changed the plot a ton (with the heroine's confidence and the maid, who should be dead)
I call him selfish because he keeps repeating how horrible death felt when he isekai'd but then leaves his horse to die so he can resurrect him, while traumatizing his maid, and using necromancy which should only be used by a different dark family. He doesn't consider resurrecting himself with the help of that certain family? Its a possibility that doesnt get considered, which i dislike.
Also the game system has generous progress rewards and a gacha for some reason
edits:
ch 20: i just realized the older brothers garen and graen are two different people, i thought that was a typo. Who ran out of names?
ch27: wow does the author only know how to write cowards and nonchalant badasses? Why does the brother care about the soldiers liking Nox, and why is he so weak? He graduated from the UBER prestigious academy and if a fresh grad is such a small fry then the highly anticipated academy MUST be filled with even smaller weaklings, but Nox said he'd have a hard time surviving there. this is so frustrating. maybe 4/10

I'm writing a review to add on to farnaaz's review because I think 10/10 is overhyping a bit and there ARE obvious flaws.
I recommend everyone give it a try as the beginning is it's peak.
The art style is similar to SUOL's (the artist of [Villains are Destined to Die] but I can only find confirmation that they did the art for the novel cover. I do believe they did the art for the start of season 1 as the art style reminds me of SUOL's [Juveniles] but I didn't find confirmation as most art credits are only to Cheong-won.
The premise is amazing (spoilers for the
...
first chapter lmao) Ophelia is a bitch but everyone is in love with her, Emilia (basically Ophelia's enemies-to-sisters and the MC) doesn't care about anything but Ophelia. She dies and all the suitors are fake as fuck and flock to an Ophelia look-alike. Emilia and the suitors are just enemies because of their relationship with Ophelia. The plot is just noble/ high society shenanigans. (Its been 2 years so I am probably not the best at explaining this)
The art does noticeably decline in quality as season 1 goes on and ends abruptly. THEN THERE WAS A 2 YEAR BREAK that I took as a sign that it got cancelled. Apparently not. Its back as of a few days ago. It has returned with a new artist and looks better than the season 1 ending but still not as good as the beginning.
I did give season 1 a 6/10 but I'm willing to see how season 2 will go after the 2 year hiatus.
