The series starts out with a intergalactic war going on with squid like looking creatures and robots reminiscent of Neon Genesis. Stuff goes wrong and the main character wakes up in an unknown area called earth. Things are slowly revealed throughout the episodes. I gave it an overall 7, but that might be rating it a bit high.
Story(7/10): The story was interesting the storytelling follows the summer, fall, winter, spring type of storytelling archetype. The story continues in a summer-type feeling all the way till episode 7. In which the main character learns about the society of the
...
Gargantia which is a ship in which people are living on and the world seems to be covered in water. He has to adjust and learn customs and a culture that greatly differed from his life in space, where the greater good was the most important and people spent most of the their time fighting. At episode 7 you experience "fall" in which the character "falls" not literally but metaphorically, his world is rocked by learning about the true nature of himself and his basic existence are put into question. Finally "winter" where the story seems rather bleak and it seems the character has turned his back on what he has learned since coming to earth. Spring comes, well I think you get the picture, as spring is the time of rebirth/regrowing.
Overall, I personally love this type of way of storytelling, it is easy to follow. I gave it a 7/10 since it felt familar, as far as the idea and main question of the series of "what is a human? what is living? What is humanity? I do not believe the story approached these questions in a new way, but it was entertaining. A main crticism is, 6 episodes were dedicated to summer, which is fine but it dragged on, if this anime had not been finished and I could watch the next episode I would have dropped this during the season and watched it after airing. Episode 7-13 the pace picks up.
Art: (7/10) There was some gorgeous things in the anime. A lot of the scenery was gorgeous. I felt the characters were drawn buy a number of different people. For instance the 3 young girls and the brother are all drawn in bishoujo/bishounen way. While the other characters are pretty as well, the roundish faces with big eyes are not as prevalent. I likes the flying scenes in which they fly on these personal flying contraptions. The mecha fights weren't very new, as they have all been done before in better ways.
Sound:(5/10) Well I can't say I listened to the opening or closing except the first episode. I did not like them, maybe they fit the anime but I did not like them, so I rated it low. Nothing outstanding in the general sound or soundtrack. I thought the voice actors were good and picked out well for their parts.
Character(6/10): Well other than the main character and his robot AI, I can not say I really loved any characters. The fact remains all the characters except for them are static characters that do not change in the anime. While it puts focus of the main characters, there seemed to be a lot of extras that just filled up space (and a lot of useless characters being introduced).
Enjoyment: (8/10): while I felt the main question of what is human? What is living? What makes us different than others? Are questions that addressed in a lot of anime, it still does not make me tired of seeing it. Even if it is a rehashing of old ideas mixed with some new ones, in a different setting. I love sci-fi and fantasy. The other stuff (barely there swim suits, beach episode, the death of the old fleet commander) well, what can I say I realize that the anime was not made solely for me (lol).
Overall 7: I feel like it is a little high, but meh I feel like it would be a little sad for it to be a 6 or a 5. Since I place most points in enjoyment overall, at the end of the day as long as I watched it all the way through it means I liked it a bit.

Overall the anime was good I enjoyed it, I watched it in one day which may skew my perception of it. Probably if I had to wait week by week for this anime I would have dropped it at episode 3. I do not know anything about the game, nor did I read the synopsis of the anime beforehand, so I had no expectations.
Story (7/10) The story was very shounen like, if I could compare it, the 13 episodes seemed fairly similar to a first arc in a shounen manga. The characters are introduced, the main character is more awesome that the
...
others, and has to rise to the occasion to battle it out against the "evil".
Art (7/10) The characters were pleasing to the eye. There were alot of scenes in which spoke volumes in terms of the story. While Alcor and Hibiki are talking on the bridge the scene of the void taking over was pretty meaningful especially with the dialogue. The fights in episode 10-13 were a bit different. I felt like some of the fights were reminiscent of Neon Genesis and also GANTZ.
Sound (8/10) I am just rating this on feelings. I liked the theme song a lot. The ending songs were okay, but I didn't listen to them every episode or anything. The sound during the anime was good, although I am not an elite on sound, so I wouldn't be sure.
Characters (8/10) I really feel Hibiki, Daichi, Io were lacking in this series as far characterization goes. We get a flashback of the reason why Hibiki is such a do-gooder, but the director I feel did not direct it properly because it did not come off as either sentimental or that you knew more about the person. You just came away with the feeling that he use to go with the flow of his parents expectations than one day his friend was talking about what he wanted to do in high school and BAM he changed? I don't get it. Io is the archetypical girl that you feel sorry for and gets lured into traps etc so the main character can create a miracle for her (she doesn't cry that much though so that's good). Daichi well what can I say he is like the idiot friend that has good intentions but is just not as strong or intelligent as the main and merely becomes comedic relief. The other characters are better, Alcor was by far the most interesting. Some of the characters I felt were purely fan service and could have been done away with, though I am sure they appeared in the game so they had to be included.
Enjoyment (9/10) I enjoyed it, I think it was good that it was not made into a 24 episodes. In fact I think it would have been better as movie or 3 part OVA. Since there are 13 episodes I expected more either character development or fight scenes, but instead air time was wasted on useless character to character dialogue on food or building up supporting characters like the Airi and Jungo, and the person with barely there clothing. While fans of the game probably liked this, I thought it was worthless and had no point in anime adaptation. I also liked the philosophical aspect of it, I felt that it could have been done better rather than spelling it out, it could have been symbolic but, I guess it fits shounen-like genre to spell it out for people.

T found this anime enjoyable only after 8 minutes into the first episode.
I would give this anime a 9 out of 10 based on sports animes alone. I am not a huge fan of sports animes, because to many adaptations tend to focus on the drama vs the game or they deviation from the manga has caused the anime to be boring.
The story is great it is pretty plain but somehow interesting. A returning player (there are strong hints that he was an amazing player) is asked to come back to the team he abandoned as the last
...
hope to save the club. The story is mainly focused on the coach but surprsingly there is no lame soap operaish stuff going on. The story is light hearted and focuses on different themes other than the ever popular themes and feels like a breath of fresh air.
Character interaction, dialogue, and the different personalities are what made this show. Such a variety of personalities and faces. I do not mean different faces with a hairstyle change either.
I really enjoyed the sound in this anime. The opening Song as well as the ending song grew on me, but it fit the anime well.
After I finished the anime I read the manga where it left off. There is an unfinished feel to the anime but the anime is extremely faithful to the manga so the continuation can be read there.
Overall it was good for a sports manga. There is no magic moves, or gravity defining acts, nor are there unrealistic strategies that make you think " well it is anime so whatever" and lastly there is no in depth explanation after everyhing (you know where the spectators or someone decides to dissect what just happened).
