Aldnoah.Zero and Code Geass both revolve around politics, war, robots, and powers. A.Z has interplanetary politics while CG is international. There is a lot of tension between the elitist group (Brittanian Empire; Vers Empire/Martians) and the “lower class” group (Elevens/Japanese; Terrans). Robots are the primary means of fighting the enemy in both series, though it is much more common in CG than A.Z. Both are technically alternate history as well, but that applies mostly to CG, because the world of A.Z is more similar to the world today. The supernatural powers are also present in both shows, though is much more prominent CG than A.Z. Although the main protagonists are very different personality-wise, they share the role of the person who uses tactics and wit to outsmart and defeat their enemies. It should also be noted that the characters who come from the “lower class” yet work with the elites are very similar (Suzaku;Slaine). And for me personally, I find the visual quality to be better in A.Z, but CG is still really good, and I also prefer drawn Mecha rather than 3D-generated ones. As I am typing this, A.Z is only at 8 episodes, but it has not disappointed me yet. If you enjoyed Code Geass, I really urge you to give this a try. Being backed by Gen Urobuchi, I have strong confidence that A.Z will be an amazing show. Same for fans of A.Z so far; if you enjoy this show, I (and everyone else), STRONGLY RECCOMEND that you watch Code Geass.
