Listen, I know that rape is a tool used in many romances (esp BL) but that doesn't mean I have to stand for it. The glorification of rape in this anime is beyond appalling, and I know that BL is traditionally not supposed to reflect real gay people, but unfortunately it does when this is the exposure that people get. Normal gay people have normal loving relationships and it's offensive that this paints gay people as literal rapists and its fine because the victim falls in love with the abuser in the end. Not for me. I would give this a zero if I could.

I really enjoyed this anime, it is very cute and heart warming! If you want to watch something to cleanse the soul I definitely recommend. I appreciate that the characters are normal people, not the traditional femme/masc tropes but I did feel like the character development of the mains was lacking. There is definitely some lost potential there, but also every anime doesn't need to be Banana Fish. The lack of character development allows this anime to remain lighthearted rather than dealing with heavy themes which I actually appreciated. Sometimes you just want to see some gay boys fall in love and that's the end ...

If you're a gay person tired of how many animes base gay characters completely off of stereotypes you're going to love this anime. This story was written in the 80's so there are a few stereotypical elements for sure (like one of the gay evil men being a pedophile) but the main characters' relationship is truly beautiful and a great representation of who gay people are: just normal people. It was incredibly refreshing to have a main character that is not a top or bottom trope, and to depict androgyny in a normally homophobic setting as something that's normal and natural.
