Grand Blue is something that I didn't really expect to like. I don't really like sports animes, so what better way to start in the genre in an anime that doesn't really feature their sport?
...I mean that as a compliment.
The humor is definitely the shining beacon of the entire anime. If you don't like the humor, you may as well drop this. I loved it, and it became something that motivated me to watch this 12-episode fratboy dude-bro mess.
The lack of romance anything is refreshing. Sure, fanservice galore is there, but it's cut short by more gags. I love it that way--it just
...
feels like a bunch of friends screwing around. The characters and their relationships are surprisingly fun to see. It just feels natural in their crazy mess.
The voice actors also are great--they delivered their stuff well. I LOVE the opening and the ending, especially the ending where the four dude-bros sing. I absolutely love how the voice actors are having fun with delivering their lines.
Well...my criticism lies with the art, as it's sub-par, I guess. I don't really mind since the humor carried the anime, but there are some wonky scenes in here.
The story is also a bit shallow if you want to see more about their sport. They do have their own feelings about diving, and it shows, but in an average sports anime, it's a bit lax. Though, I like how casual they are overall.
tl;dr: If you like the first episode's energy and humor, and the knowledge of having more of that humor than the actual diving, you will probably like this anime.

I'm sort of late on the party, huh?
Ouran High School Host Club made me remember why I loved shoujo mangas/animes in the first place, and I deeply regret that this has passed my radar, despite of its popularity. It was funny, emotional, profound at times and a great experience.
I would like to really give props to the characters--especially the main cast. I never really have seen a reverse harem female lead to ACTUALLY be likeable, extremely so. In the world of reverse harem animes/mangas, I didn't really expect anything from the female protagonists. It's just obvious that they would all
...
just be the same--kind, virtuous, spacey and an airhead. Haruhi is sort of like that, yes, but she's carried out greatly. She's like that for a reason, she has her own goals and motivations, and overall an admirable character.
The members of the host club were all(?) characterized well. They were all very endearing and layered, which some reverse harem animes/mangas fail to have. Even if the characters are over-the-top and are borderline caricatures at times, in unexpected moments, they feel like real people. They all have their own lives and motivations AWAY from the heroine. Man, are the ones in the genre clueless about this.
The art and animation is quite stylish throughout the series--I quite liked it. It really stands out from the other shoujo titles out there.
Ouran isn't exactly the most "romantic" anime out there. Hell, shoujo titles beat them in terms of that category, but it didn't need to be one. It was more heartfelt. There might not be scenes that would make you swoon, but the subtleties of romance is felt throughout.
tl;dr: Ouran is great. Fucking watch it. It still holds up very well, even if it's my first watch. If you're disappointed with shoujo titles out there, this is a great surprise.

Kaichou wa Maid-sama is something I used to love. Revisiting it years later sure made my opinions different than before, but nevertheless I still sort of enjoyed it.
My criticisms lie on the questionable sexist attitude from Misaki, and from the other characters [with some creepy moments...I'll leave it as that because it's a minor scene.]. I also think that Usui, although this is his main appeal, is just too perfect. That's perfectly normal in shoujo mangas/animes, but because of that, I haven't really empathized or understood him. He's too cooped up with his love for Misaki, which sure, I get that it's the point, and
...
how appealing it is at times that I swoon, but as a character, he's surface-leveled.
But as I went on, like an average shoujo manga, it did make me click on the next episode until I finished it instead of doing something productive. I was lost in its starry-eyed, flower-filled fantasy about a perfect man falling for a hardworking and strong-willed woman.
It's definitely a power-fantasy for young girls, and not much of an all-rounder romance. This anime is definitely stupid and vapid at times, but knowing that it's coming from a regular shoujo manga plot, you should know what will exactly come.
Kaichou wa Maid-sama is enjoyable, depending on what you're looking for, however, since it's a shoujo romance anime, if you're not really familiar with the genre, you might punch some holes in your walls instead. If this review isn't enough to dissuade you and have piqued your interest, then watch it. This anime definitely is a classic shoujo romance anime, and I hope by seeing this, you might even find other shoujo titles.
A great anime to start when you want to satiate your shoujo romance cravings.

after the rain was spectacular. what i expected was an age gap where a young girl is pining for an older man (well, i never expected them to actually end up, hint hint) but what i got was a story about two individuals growing together.
many have questioned the 'romance' tag. i haven't. it's definitely a romance. the love that they have for each other, no matter how different, has pushed them to be so much better and to pursue the other things they love.
it's a romance story that i haven't really had in anime all that much. it's a type of love that's
...
pure and wonderful, and i couldn't dissuade it. i really love the story, and i'm extremely biased for the manager's. as an aspiring writer, his story really hit me hard.
the animation and art is quite beautiful as well. the opening and ending is drop-dead gorgeous, and i'm always left in tears in many of the episodes. this anime just spoke to me, with its melancholy and beauty.
the anime has interpreted akira's feelings so well that i felt what she felt with the manager. everything was just handled so tastefully that i want to continue on their story.
i'm extremely picky around anime nowadays. everything is just the same to me, but after the rain definitely isn't. it's heartfelt, realistic and beautiful.
don't expect it to focus more about their romance. it isn't. you would be disappointed if you just expected a sensationalized story. you would be even more disappointed that (spoilers: they don't end up. of course.). that isn't the point of the story. i said earlier that it's realistic, right? then it would also be bittersweet. but i love it to bits.
if you're interested after whatever i said, and the odd age gap, then give this a try.
