This anime is poorly written. The overall story was a shot to the toe of the animation studio, and a big disown to the original writer of the manga series 石田スイ (which did choose the openings and endings of the 2 seasons).
The story and characters are the most annoying things about this anime that had one of the greatest potential I've seen in a longtime. The main character, 金木健 (Kaneki Ken), was developed, but all of his development was only a consequence of what happened in the first season.
