Although Platinum End's score isn't bad, I've seen many people criticizing it and giving it poor treatment even though it's been out for only a few weeks. Not sure if it's due to how widely disliked the manga is (which I have not read yet), or if everyone was expecting something as amazing as Death Note, or maybe everyone just got tired of the "Battle Royale" genre. Whatever the case may be, I personally don't see any reason to score it any lower than a 6 for now.
Story:
Is this the most original anime out there? No, definitely not. Actually, it literally is as if Death
...
Note and Mirai Nikki had a baby together. Thirteen random people are chosen to participate in a Battle Royale to decide who will become a God, and thus being able to change the world according to their own vision once they achieve that goal. Accompanying these people are Angels, who were chosen by God himself, tasked to find a fitting candidate. These angels will grant each candidate wings and arrows in order to prepare them for the war that's about to break loose. Nothing you haven't seen before, right?
However, while lacking in uniqueness, it makes up for it by being very entertaining to watch. You shouldn't go into it expecting to witness a complex and intricate masterpiece filled with detail, symbolism and profoundness, as you will probably be disappointed, but rather try looking at it as a nice way to spend your afternoon, without giving it much thought.
Part of what made animes such as Danganronpa, Mirai Nikki, Fate Series, etc so popular was the thrill and excitement of seeing different people with different backgrounds, personalities, skills, experiences and moral values go head-to-head, fighting not only for their lives but also for what they believe in, providing us with a lot of variety, action, emotion and often times mystery, and Platinum End doesn't seem to shy away from such promises.
Character wise, they're ok. It may be too soon to comment on that, however I want to point out that I'm glad they're not as "cliché" as most of the characters these types of anime usually give us are. They're not as unique and believable as they could be, but at least they're not necessarily as predictable either.
Art:
This one actually surprised me! I really enjoy the animation and it's definitely above average, shining the most when it comes to animating supernatural elements like angel wings, heaven, arrows and so on. There are a few weird looking CGI moments but those can be easily overlooked. Character design is also really good and it shows a good balance between common-looking people in common-world settings and heavenly magical figures with cool and unique looking designs.
All in all, I think it's definitely worth the shot. While some people may perceive something as a masterpiece, other people will deem it as trash, and I think this anime may very well have the potential to grow such distinctive opinions on people. However, if you're looking to enjoy yourself with an action filled supernatural story with a (predictable yet) interesting premise, I think Platinum End is a good choice and you shouldn't let elitist comments throw you off.

Make no mistake. Despite MAL's categorization about this manga, this is definitely a Slice of Life. However, not being a huge fan of SOL myself, I was pleasantly surprised about this work.
This is a story about abuse, loss of innocence, guilt, but most importantly to me, about friendship, love, acceptance and rebirth. It's about a troubled girl who, by unknown circumstances, is able to turn invisible and, because of this, she tries to put an end to the source of her misery. However, overcome with guilt, she embarks on a new journey where the challenges ahead are nothing more than the demons in her head.
...
Along the way, she makes new friends and because of them, she is able to find comfort and happiness for the first time in many years, conflicting with the ever-present need to punish herself.
Although it's a beautifully written story, concept wise I feel like I couldn't fully connect to it in order to capture the beauty of its essence to the fullest (which might have held back my overall rating), however I can totally see how someone who has gone through the same things or has had similar feelings depicted in this manga can find comfort in it. It's a story that teaches us that no matter how surrounded by darkness you seem to be, there will always be a light shining upon you, even if you think you don't deserve it.
"Seems like good things will happen
And bad things too
And good things will keep happening
And so will bad things."
The art is simple yet amazing. It's captivating and really easy to digest, which allowed me to break this "not being able to finish any manga" curse.
I love the dialogue and interactions that the characters have and their relationship is what shines the most in this project. They're heartwarming and hopeful but also extremely mindful and self-aware.
It's a short story so there aren't many things left to say. It's not perfect, but to be honest, I can't even pinpoint where it went wrong. It seems as though there aren't many evident mistakes, but while lacking in negative aspects, it also lacks striking, impressive and grabbing moments. In other words, it's a consistently good manga, and there's really no room to go wrong with it. But don't go into it expecting a masterpiece so you won't be disappointed.

*This is my first review ever so I apologize in advance if it's not as organized as you would expect*
I don't know how to start this review other than by saying that Magi is great! It's absolutely everything a fantasy genre lover like me was looking for in an anime, and I genuinely haven't been this entertained in a long time. However, from a weird pacing to an awful ending, not everything is as good as I hoped for, and a few promises this rather amazing anime made were left unanswered.
I want to start off by saying all the things I liked the most, and
...
then what I liked the least.
What I liked:
-Interesting, unique and captivating world building
-Great concept with amazing magic and fighting styles
-Lovable and believable characters
-Great balance between light-hearted comedy and serious moments
-And most of all, how it's set up to be very dynamic, leaving no room for boredom whatsoever
What I disliked:
-Very arc driven, so much so that you lose sight of each character's goals and there's no real sense of storyline
-(Not so) Rare but definitely uncomfortable pseudo-ecchi moments to appeal shonen audiences that the anime could very well live without
-Poor in-depth analysis about almost anything
-Anti-climatic and rushed ending that was aiming for a great closer but turned out to be meaningless and out of place
Story:
Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic is a compelling and magical adventure where you feel you're being taken along for the ride. Its themes, concept and inspiration are, for the most part, very well executed, with amazing characters, amazing magic display and amazing world building. However, regarding a real "story", there's barely anything to hold on to. Although I'm sure it may change along the seasons and manga chapters, this first anime season was a little bit all over the place and just when you thought you were going a certain direction, they chose to follow a completely new and unrelated one. By doing so, I feel like they missed out on some explanations. In the end, although it initially seemed that everything was solved, I got the impression that I didn't know anything about anything, as it was more of a fun adventure rather than a plot-filled story.
Characters:
Each character in this anime is really special. Not only are they all very unique, but they're also very lovable and I dare to say unexpected. Not a single one is flat-lined and one dimensional. Each character is multi-layered and show a great development throughout the show.
For example, I was expecting Morgiana to be more annoying and "tsundere" like, as it is the cliché for these types of anime, but I was surprised to see her as a quiet and disciplined person. Of course it matches with her past and all the difficulties she went through, but some anime won't go as far as to keep their characters cohesive. Not only that, but she also proved multiple times that her rather cold and serious image hides a warm and caring heart that is full of hope.
Another example is Aladdin. While he's definitely your standard upbeat, friendly and easy going main character, there were some unpredictable moments that made me question everything about him. By no means does he come across as ill-intended, but there's definitely some mystery and depth to him that makes him stand out among his peers.
Art:
Nothing short of excellent. Character design is amazing and the animation definitely brings everything to life in a magical way like very few anime do.
Enjoyment:
Could've been a 10/10 if it wasn't for the ending, but unfortunately it turned me off so much that I'm even having a hard time watching season 2. But knowing that it's an Anime Only mistake, I'm definitely looking forward for more!
Overall, if this is an anime you've been planning on watching and you somehow stumbled upon this review, take this as a sign from the universe. Watch it and dive into this magical world like I am doing. It may not be perfect as I see it, but I'm completely sure you won't regret your journey.
