I know this might seem like its very unlikely, I am doing this recommendation through their artistic direction. Because Shaft and the ever crazy Shinbou were responsible for the production of this series, their art direction is very close to being 100% parallel. They are both filled with so many abstract images and one could even see a completely similar frame in Madoka and compare it to one in Bakemonogatari. Even their choice for the voice actors for their main heroines are the same people. (Saito Chiwa) for both Akemi and Hitagi, (Kitamura Eri) For one Karen and Sayaka, and ofcourse (Kato Emri) for Hachikuji and Kyuubey. The character interactions almost feel identical, even Saito Chiwa was able to carry that cold aura from Hitagi into Akemi.

The main reason why I believe these two to be similar, is the feeling that you get after completing the show, especially the last few episodes of it. As a college student myself these shows made me stop and think about where I am at this point of my life. It's actually pretty damn inspiring.

This two are very similar in its way of presenting a tasteful romantic comedy. Both shows deal with the main character having romantic feelings for a supernatural being. Also, they similar in the sense that both shows also deal with a love-triangle along with their childhood friends.

The overall feeling of sadness, happiness and self satisfaction that I got from these two works of art are dangerously similar. It was of no surprise that after looking up the ones responsible for writing Tale of Memories that I ran into Makoto Shinkai (He helped with the storyboad) He is also the writer of 5 Centimeters Per Second

Both Animes deal with Time Traveling and its consequences. Both shows try to portrait how one battles against this idea of FATE using the methods of Time Traveling. Both shows have concepts dealing with Tragedy, romance, and comedy and are both masterfully done.
