Interesting anime about a boy who wants to be a girl and a girl who wants to be a boy, both in a love triangle including a girl with an attitude. They start high school. First it goes on about a play involving gender change.
The theme about wanting to be a girl is treated pretty seriously. It is not only a story about a boy who wants to be a girl, but about a person who is different from the rest and in a certain way, better than them too. Obviously it is not excerpt of problems. Most of them come from the prejudice that
...
says than women becoming men gain something, but men becoming women lost something instead of gaining it.
Characters are not shallow, they just behave as young people. This is a problem with such a mature setting. On the other hand, it's a great choice to focus on the protagonist's friends and left mostly out all the scum that cannot accept him. In fact, when they are took into account, the story decays a little bit.
Drawing is interesting and appealing to the eye, and goes along well with the theme. It seems to me that it makes the anime more delicate.
But the story despite having a so powerful premise, begins to falter as it comes to a conclusion. There's not a lot of drama here: involving friendship, love triangle, cross-dressing, bullying... and everybody stays so calm! Characters do not seem to change, face problems or evolve. The series ends as it could have ended on the first episode.
Why accept this challenging theme if you don't want to beat the crap out of reality? It reminds me of Oreimo's second season. If you want to do it, do it. If you don't want, make another shonen with special attacks.
Well, perhaps in the future someone will work on the second step forward.
Good:
Original and brave premise.
Characters are not stereotypes, they're pleople.
Bad:
Characters, despite it's interest, are very young and this does not work very well.
Almost no drama.
There is not an ending, just a pretty shy conclusion.

This anime takes place in a city where, despite being full of people who have superpowers, bullying takes place as an everyday matter. If there's a lonely girl, a gang of punks will surround her for harassment duty. If two people collide, one will try to beat the crap out of the other. This will happen without aggressors thinking about the possibility of being facing a serious threat.
I would have been interesting to see more of how this world works. I don't know how espers train, level up or discover their own powers. Instead, I know how they... have fun. Hum.
There's a big amount of
...
non-arc episodes, about six or seven for each twelve episodes: you get this slice of life and then there is your story. This seems a bit excesive, as some of these episodes involve even tertiary characters which do not even appear quite much (anti-skill girl playing at an arcade, for example).
As for the story, it is interesting. But first half is way better than the second, because of the plot and it's evil final boss. Demiboss is better characterized than the final one. I have to note that being this a sci-fi anime, it makes use of science to develop its story. It is not just an excuse for renew a repeated theme, it plays with the limits of what a human being is and even sets up interesting premises. I think I will watch Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S.
Characters are light-hearted and not very complicated, but they work fairly good. Kuroko is probably the best one, partly because it has the best voice acting.
Sound is OK. First opening is one of best I've ever seen.
Art is correct. Characters seem not very sexuated as they have mostly stick thin legs.
Good:
First half of the series.
Every time crazy Kuroko moans "onee-samaa".
Bad:
Filler non-arc episodes can KO you.
Ending is rushed and a bit dissapointing, also is second best to mid-ending.
Evil laughts are stupid and an intent to cover character vacuum. Please make evil serious.

Watamote goes about a lonely girl who wants to become popular or, more specifically, close to others.
There's mostly one character here who wanders around thinking about what happens to her. Motoko Kuroki is one of the strangest characters I've ever seen.
This makes the show very special. It does not revolt around a proper story but a series of tries and crazy gags. The good thing is that most of this absurd situations have never be seen.
Pace gets slower at summer break but keeps being interesting.
The main character is very good made. Motoko happens to be a lovely character who can get happy about saying a
...
word to someone. (What I don't really get is why his brother is a bit of a dork). With her being so shy, you understand some of her twisted ways of thinking, as she can be a little evil. There is potential for further development here (there could be an struggle).
Music goes pretty well along with the show, with weird melodies or sounds becoming deformed depending on the moment, and the art finds many oportunities in order to make a visual impact.
Sometimes humor can be a bit black or mean. But you have keep in mind that Motoko has one of the most interesting and eventful student lives in the world.
Also, it is evident that it is not her fault for not being popular. People in Motoko's class must all be shallow and ignorant: to have such a treasure in your class and not knowing it!
There's also plenty of references to another shows which can entertain you.
Good:
A great main character.
It is original.
Bad:
It doesn't really have an ending, it's more of a continue. Last scenes are a bit more crazy than usual.

This is a serious review for a serious matter.
Senran Kagura shows a five girl ninja school against another school (this one evil). You will learn a lot about ninjas.
Ninjas can defy physics: when they are hanging down, their breasts hang, but their skirts don't. Strange, as they like to show her underwear whenever possible. Also, when hanging with a water bucket on each hand they can still somehow shake hands with a companion. Uh?
Real ninjas resemble magical girls, and some armor transformations have even less cloth that the usual school uniform. I cannot stop staring at Katsuragi's... armor.
Even with magical girl transformations, there is no
...
panty shots here, there is simply some scenes where panties are strangely not shown. Given the setting, this scenes can be dificult to understand, you will need to try your best.
Music is pretty good, being interesting and powerful. Helps a lot to cover the shallow story.
Characters are walking cliches with enormous breasts (the pervert, the shy, the cool genious, the willful protagonist, the straight: you will know who is who and you have probably already seem then anywhere else). Something to point out: student bodies don't differ greaty, they all have this cowish milky breasts which bounce at the minor oportunity (even when they talk). Could have been interesting to have more than one body type (there's only a loli on the bad girls team).
Good:
There are two Kuroneko ripoff, coming in two different sizes. Most animes have only one.
On one before-spot image one of the bad girls is leaking one of her breasts! D.D
Even with so incredibly stupid premises, this happens to be fun.
Bad:
As you are always watching at some kind of underwear, they soon start to seem as battle bikinis.
The story is shallow.
The ending is a bit stupid.

This was better than I expected. The premise on this series is battles between groups of tanks as an after school club. In this crazy world, this is treated just as another sport which contributes somewhat to feminity. (I wonder what the hell would boys do, given the proper atention by the series: ¿kill each other?, ¿learn to cook?).
Art gets pretty interesting when tanks are battling.
All related to tanks is ok and even seems well documented, but the slice of life with stribes on the girls seems to pale a bit in comparison. Take for instance a moment at episode two or three when the
...
girls hang out together: one girls wears contact lens, another has some utillage in her backpack, and when you think a dialogue will burst out... the scene ends. At least there's almost no slice of life, as this is mostly about battles.
It is obviously impossible to show a development for three to five girls in each of the five tanks (twenty people, if I recall). There are brief stories for three of the main girls. The story involves mostly a world competition.
Music could have been way more epic. Cute versions of belic themes are ok but not awesome. Check, for instance, Strike Witches OST. I would remark: the anglerfish dance and the russian song.
Good:
The tank action.
They take this crazy world so seriously that it seems plausible.
Bad:
The twelve episodes seem to be not enough: the show even skips one of the matches, just showing the resolution (seems it was later made into an OVA).
Too much miraculous shot evading gets notorious. Play a game of tanks and do as they do: you will get blown in three seconds.

This anime begins being very interesting, as the protagonist seems to be a pervert with little shame. But this soon leaves place to other matters, with the series involving some all-mighty cat statues which grant wishes. One would think that with anything having the chance to become possible, things will become serious at any moment. Well, they don't. The series mostly involves a lot of monotonous slice of life.
Characters seem very weak. One extremely big error is to deprive the feminine protagonist of her emotions at the first episode. This is not cute at all, it's as depriving Goku of becoming a super saiyan. One
...
way to be cute is to show emotions.
Also, with the protagonist being called "The pervert prince", one would expect a pervert, not a guy who wanders into an occupied bathroom by chance. I'm not impressed at all by his pervertness.
There's also some filler episodes, even given the short episode spam, which do not add a lot the series (the extra imouto episodes).
You will find some kind of story on the last two episodes, though. Things get a little emotional and briefly interesting, and then the anime ends as it could have ended on the second episode.
One terrible thing is that music is almost non-existant. I think there was a good track and lots of silence.
Good: the first episode and the last two ones.
Bad: shallow caracters, with one of them even facially handicapped.

Well, this is not AnoHanna.
There's not enough story for twelve episodes. Things start out ok but they get boring after the characters and setting are presented. The two beach episodes could easily be dropped and the only two events that seem to happen in them would fit elsewere. There's even a festival with yukatas and impossible-to-catch fishes which do not add very much to all.
Things can get a bit tiring as you see that there are a number of scenes which are telling you the same continuously. Something was told to me four times at the beginning of episode eleven.
Characters are pretty plain appart from
...
their love affairs. It seems their only hobby is being in love and not doing anything. One of them seems to build models, but he could have been watching TV and nothing would have changed. Particulary the female protagonist seems preety dull for an extraterrestrial being capable of space travel. And... why is she wearing glasses? Duh.
Even the mascot is pretty average.
Probably the best character is the less visible: Yamano Remon. Seems to be the only one hiding something and has the most personality of them all, even if it is for being somewhat evil.
On the other hand, the last two episodes are slightly enjoyable.
Also, having some love stories, the resolution for most of them is... mostly void.
