I am a huge fan of the Danganronpa world, I played the first game before I watched the anime. Love all of the characters in their own ways but the anime just felt rushed and there was no character development. I would say that it is a good stepping stone to get you into the games but do not rely on it for anything important character wise.
The story itself is so unique but the anime strips the excitement away. I feel like some things are meant to stay a game, it allows more character development and more interaction with the characters. For example, in ... the game, there are report cards and you can interact with the characters to get to know a character more. I understand why they didn't include this in the anime because it would take away from the story. The anime cuts down the days that they are in the school, for example, in the game, there are three days between the first murder and one day in the game.
I would recommend playing the game first because watching the anime takes away the shock factor because it goes through the story so fast.
