Too much and not enough are equally big problems when trying to create something amazing - or in other words know when to say when. In the case of Nyan Koi! someone should have stopped the onslaught of nonsensical girls sooner and not stopped the plot as soon as they did.
I know what you're thinking, "but it's a harem show - there's supposed to be tons of girls." BUT Nyan Koi sacrificed being a good romantic comedy or a good small harem (does 2-3 count as a harem?) for being a sloppy very mediocre harem rom-com of which there are all ready many out

there. Half way through they just threw away the decent plot and the few good characters they had, and said "screw it, this is hard just draw more girls". If you still feel their choice was justified you must be a 15 year old boy because plot does matter even in harems.
For the first couple of episodes I rated this show as 7/8 by the end it was 4/5 so I went with a 6 for overall for the following reasons:
So about the story...as you may have already gathered Junpei is a young man who has always been terribly allergic to cats. One day he accidentally destroys a cat statue in a local shrine and is then cursed by the cat god. As penance to have the curse lifted and thus avoid being turned into a cat, which would certainly be fatal for him, he must help 100 cats with their problems. This is a pretty unique and good story line that has lots of potential for comedic moments. The funniest parts of the show are Junpie is trying to fulfill cats' requests, and it would have been so great if they had stuck with the story past episode 7 or 8 because it was genuinely entertaining. By the end it seems like the writers forgot that was a major part of the story because it is barely included anymore, although in episode 12 they seem to recover from their amnesia in time for a hurried conclusion. The first love triangle is pretty good - there's a girl Jupei likes who secretly likes him back and his childhood friend who he has grown apart from but still has a crush on him - it's pretty believable, cute and ripe for awkward moments and confusion. The rest is downhill from there as several random girls fall for him with barely even weak attempts at explanations on the writers' part.
Junpei is an unusually good lead male. He's helpless enough that it's cute, but not so helpless you want to punch him. Unlike many other harem guys, I do see why the girls like him (the first couple anyway) - he's cute and a little awkward but sweet. The first 2 girls are pretty good as well - a shy cute and awkward girl with a heart of gold and the rough and tumble but good natured tomboy. The rest of the girls might work as side characters in a different show because they have interesting and funny personalities, but in the context of just trying to get with Jupei they end up seeming utterly silly and ridculous. The best characters are the cast of cats who Junpei needs to help - each one is unique and all of them are hysterical. I wish we had seen more of them becuase they were so much better than most of the girls.
The art while not spectacular, was pretty good. I liked the use of color, andoverall it seemed to be executed with reasonable skill. The character design seemed fitting, and the girls were cute (with big boobs) without being stupid or offensive looking.
It might be worth watching the first 6-7 episodes of this show then just skipping to the last one - you won't miss much.

This is the first anime I've ever seen that I would call random. I think the word random is overused when describing many shows but this show is random - random in a funny and fun way, but random none the less. Yes, I know the reading the manga would probably make it less random but that itsn't the point.
What the MAL description fails to convey is that the show is really just ten episodes of following a trio of dysfunctional people on a journey. It definitely suffers from a lack of plot, but it redeems itself because dysfunctional people on a

semi-random journey can be really funny (the reason I stuck with it and suggest you do as well).
The journey has some vauge goals like revenge or finding something, but the goals are not the focus of the show - not that there is a focus to it aside from the before mentioned journey and the people who are on it. The themes of the episodes are to repetitive - just variations on Rahzel seeing and child in need and saving him/her with the help of Alzeid and Heat again and again and again. The story is poorly developed and ends up being disjointed - partly because it is so episodic. Many good shows are episodic in nature, but in this one the individual episodes rarely connected to each other at all and there is no transition between them e.g. random.This lack of buildup leaves the show with very little tension and almost no climax. Major parts of the story are never explained (for example how or why people can use magic is never addressed), although I assume the manga which I haven't read contains more detailed explanations. The show proceeds as if there is no gaping hole and you have the needed information to understand what's going on which makes it rather confusing at points. Several times I was left wondering either what the heck is going on or why on earth would this be happening.
The characters are amusing if not not well developed, and their banter will keep you laughing. Rahzel comes dangerously close to just being annoying -privileged 14 year old girl need I say more (?), but stays on the likable side by a small margin. Alzeid is a pretty great character, and really adds to the humor. The dialog is pretty fast paced and witty which is the biggest redeeming quality of the show. The lack of charter development is a little problematic, but somehow it mostly makes them seem disgruntled which adds to the humor of the show.The people introduced in each episode mostly do not have any real connection to the main characters and are only occasionally used to illuminate something about the main characters past, so in the end you have a random assortment of people who have not contributed to the plot. You find out very little about the main charters' pasts or even why they are traveling together which is kind of ridiculous.
As far as the art and music is concerned it's nothing special but overall not bad. The character designs are fairly generic and a little goofy. The op and ed are pretty bad.
While the lack of explanation and development of the plot (if you want to argue there is one) can be frustrating, I still enjoyed the show mainly for its humor and wit. It's kind of a silly anime but may prove to be a fun watch.

There are several other reviews for this anime, so I'll just get to the point. It is a pile of mediocrity in almost every way - lame characters that have been done and done better before, a story that is a mish-mash of other anime, average art and goofy looking costumes. The story can at times be interesting (the description on MAL doesn't do it justice), but in the end the producers settled for something that was mass-marketable instead of creating something genuinely good. That's not to say it's a bad anime, just that it's nothing to write home about.

any spoilers, but it may be worthwhile to note the MAL description makes it seem as if the story is largely concerned with the military academy and Teito's time there. That isn't really accurate as his time spent there is a minor part of the story, but the military does play and important part in the rest of the story's development. Teito being able to change the fate of the world is much more complicated then the description hints at, but again I don't want to include an spoilers.
Its biggest problem may be the lame and boring main characters. I feel a good set of characters can make up for a lot of other short comings since they are, along with plot, the main part of the story. 07-Ghost fails to create interesting or even likable characters. I assume the almost exclusively male character line up is meant to entice female viewers e.g. they are supposed to be bishounens, but their generic designs, reused personalities and goofy outfits would interest only the most immature or crazed fangirl. I should explain about the outfits, but I'd really rather not relive it - it may suffice to say them seemed to be channeling Trinity Blood in the worst way possible. An anime is not doing its job if the main character could die and the audience could car less. Its main redeeming point is the character Ayanami who is a crazy f***. He adds a much needed layer of interesting to the otherwise bland show (I'm not saying that in a fangirl way). When you have no emotional investment in the characters because the production has completely failed to make them interesting or likable it can be kinda of fun to watch them get messed with which is Ayanami adds to the show. He is the main reason I both stuck with this anime and why I didn't give it a lower score - by the end I was really hoping he would be victorious over Teito.
The ending is unsatisfying in that there is not an actual conclusion. I'm sure the manga covers more, but it is very obvious that the producers left it open for a second season by not actually finishing the first. Overall the show wasn't bad, just so very average.

Despite several interesting ideas presented and the potential of the story this anime fell flat. In the end it tried to do too many things and consequently did not of them very well.
Story
My biggest problem is with the story/plot. Kikoushi Enma wanted to be mystery, horror and psychological anime while being deep, funny, touching, scary and a touch sexual all in 4 forty minute episodes. The idea of the darkness in all of us is good but it wasn’t really developed until the 3rd episode. If that was the “meaning” of the OVA it was not a fully formed thought. The demon hunting was

again an interesting tease but not really explained. Despite the lack of development the OVA was not confusing – just missed potential.
Characters
Again there was potential for interesting and enjoyable characters, but the character building was abandoned to try and save the plot. The "main" characters had personality, although not all ways consistent with the tone of the show, and I would have really liked to see more of them and how they were related which is not explained.
Art/Music
Both the art and music where pretty decent. The art looked a tad dated/generic, but overall it was solid and little sexy. They made good use of dramatic light and dark contrasts and overall it fit the darker mood of the anime. The music didn't strike me either way really. Overall neither was good enough to compensate for its other short comings.
