Before we begin, here's a warning.
If at this point you still don't watch and read Kanon, AIR, CLANNAD, Little Busters, Rewrite, Planetarian and even Angel Beats, you'll miss a lot and will be exposed to huge spoilers coming in from both media of those stories. No exception. And since this is the season 2, you should already catch up with S1 too.
Firstly, like I said before, Kaginado is a gift. For those who's heart has been unlocked by the Key. For those who laugh and cried with them. For those who keep being loyal with them.
While 4 minutes seems too short for all characters to
...
gain their own spotlight (yes, there would be angry beings who complains of their waifu/husbando still don't get enought screentime), but at least seeing them still living their lives as usual is enough. Well, even some less-known characters make their own debut this time!
Anyway, it seems like this is the end of the story, let's say I enjoy it very much. Probably the most normal Key series ever, and it's good that we could see them always happy this time.
Now as Miss Jena ends her show, let's see, who's the next guest of the Planetarium?
(Btw read Summer Pockets if you could - now Reflection Blue version also has a fan translation!)

S2 obviously better than S1. That's no doubt.
In terms of adaptability - quite good. Maybe because both Moon and Terra route are straightforward route and not too long. But honestly speaking, if any VN readers wanted to jump into the anime just to see the animation, just go straight to S2 because s1 had nothing similar that we can talk about. Even I think one should stop and read the VN before getting into S2 because they actually starts with some VN-only content of the first half where you might be confused on. And if you feel shocked with the story progress, don't be. I
...
have said in S1 that the story is misleading.
But anyway, all my complains are either the same or only with S1, so nothing special more on S2 here. But at least this story is more fathomable this season.

Let me begin with a reminder so that you probably won't accuse me for not reading the visual novel since y'all like to harass me if I'm not in the majority view: I do read them. But looks like I'm on a majority on this, and that's my honest review, so probably you won't need to.
In terms of adaptationality - they should get a low score. Admittedly the visual novel has some conflictive contents between routes, where, if y'all made it to the second season, understand the issue: the MC should take side to whatever the heroine affiliation is. And that means the affiliation should
...
be justified enough.
The issue is we need to combine those routes so all options and contents are at least presented in an arranged manner, and that didn't happen. In comparison, Rewrite VN has 5 routes and as I concerned, they only covered half a road for each heroine, mostly first halfs with Kotori getting 3/4 of her route covered thanks to her being the main poster girl (in addition of the ribbon girl Kagari ofc). And Chihaya, sadly, had none of hers actually covered, which basically pushed her story, and so does her butler, aside. And that route also contains vital information.
And those imbalance also lead to another problem - a misleading story. In original VN I should point out that the story do balance the routes so that it gives a neutral view of the character involved. But skipping through scenes and adapting half routes basically has ruined those view, so until near the end we are basically being lead to only a single side of the story, and that's basically misleading. Not even in a good way I should say.
And let's not forget the S1 which suffers the Grisaia problem - a very short slot for the SOLs and things where it should have more highlights. When the story starts being dramatic at the first half, you know it will be rushed anyway, more if we made ourself in mind that this is a VN adaptation which basically will fast forward things. And it has been proved right. No spaces for comedy and enjoyment because we want to rush in the drama - basically suffocating the mind.
Animation is so-so tbh. Maybe average idk. But compared to other studios that has animated Key products, 8bit probably had lowest rank. It's quite flat and stuttering.
At least, thankfully, we at least still had original VN OST played and rearranged where knowing that Key always want to control the music department of their medias, we still get to hear the masterpieces.

Warning: If you don't watch or read/play Kanon, AIR, Clannad (including Tomoyo After VN), Little Busters, Planetarian and Rewrite beforehand or still halfway through them, please do finish them before watching. You'll getting on very heavy spoiler as early as episode 1. You have been warned.
This is a gift to all loyal Key fans that has been staying and crying for whatever all those series throughout their 21 years of existing. Having many of these series make a comeback with half of them last having an appearance a decade ago, truly they brought much nostalgia to everyone who had known this either via the VN
...
or the anime.
The series are short, but the content is very much good if you love Key. You'll be exposed to not only interaction between all the character series, but also constant breaking of the fourth wall, some commentary of each series, subtle references and easter eggs from the anime and VNs and also some character has their own revenge moment as well.
The 12 5-minutes episode sure might be not enough for some, but indeed, it relive our nostalgia so much. And yes, they are not ending yet! Now lets look forward to the next season, with Angel Beats joins the gang!

First of all, don't be tricked by VN-only readers who can't even stand the design being changed partially on just on the hair design and not even care to see the goddamn good later part of this season.
Secondly, for those coming in to see only the mecha vs monster and feel frustrated, I also want to say Muv-Luv, isn't like what the poster shows. It's a drama, yes a drama that's why they have a lot of talking. But it's a goddamn good drama actually if you go in full. Some VN readers also made this mistake and cursing it without knowing the truth (that's
...
why even if you gonna start the VN-don't rush the romcom first part).
As a VN reader, I can say that this adaptation is actually serviceable. Although not adapting Extra or at least Unlimited make it start with a shaky base (since the early part requires Unlimited as a context), they nailed most of the later scenes very nice. Yes, the later part of the anime is very interesting with drama part is enhanced and the battle part is actually goddamn good that they even care to put thing from the manga too.
And because of things are still delivered that good despite the low expectation and hanky-panky on the 2D department, I can praise the anime productions to that. OP and ED are surprisingly a banger too, although originally sounds a bit off from what was known from the original VN OSTs.
Overall, it is a good adaptation of Muv-Luv Alternative, but of course without the missing two first part and this season being 1/3 of the full series, it is still incomplete. But still, I want to give a good rating on this because it is still good despite that, no doubt on that.
