Watching for the first time in 2022, I can't help but inherently view Code Geass through a lens of nostalgia-driven fondness for this era of anime, and Code Geass R2 delivers in every aspect of this. Earlier 2000s saw big titles that played in high magnitudes of melodrama, edginess, and feeling VERY "anime" in terms of trope extremities. Code Geass R2 continues the story of the original 2006 anime but amps up everything to MAX. SHORT SPOILER-FREE REVIEW. It's an accessible romance, despite a bit of contrived drama to initiate the overall resolution. Wish some of the side characters got a little more dimension considering how they end up coming into play to affect the main cast. But ultimately, I found myself invested in this. Josee's voice actor was wonderful for the range of characterization she is required to display. True score: 8
