It's quite confusing and altogether unsatisfying. Its premise seems really interesting and provides a view into a brother-sister dynamic during a flooding event, but the fact that Miyazaki doesn't usually rely on thought-out scripts and mostly on storyboards really led to the downfall of this movie as it resulted in a boring middle section and really bland ending. This problem is usually not so bad in many Ghibli movies as it is offset by actually interesting characters and plot but there just wasn't enough going for this movie to actually make it interesting. Animation is still really great, which apparently was mostly hand-drawn, making the ...

Kimi no Iro (Anime) add
For a movie about synesthesia and a band, this movie doesn't really go much into depth on either topic but uses these as a tool to explore the beauty of friendships and artistic expression. Quite possibly the worst anime ending I have ever seen. I actually thought the animation and action sequences were pretty good in the first season and there was enough to keep the plot interesting. However, this second season largely ignores most of the set up of the first season and goes off on this bizarre storyline involving new characters and enemies, and ignores the dynamics of Section 9. The ending does not make any sense and really ruined the atmosphere by trying to go against expectations. I get that ghost in shell is supposed to be philosophical and touch on the problems of technology but ...
