What initially starts as a decent anime with a fun dynamic between the MC and love interest quickly becomes a disorganized mess with a rushed plot. Initially I was willing to overlook what seemed like missing plot points and unexplained relationship development but it continued to get worse. The final straw has to be the laughable twelfth episode which effectively retcons the entire show. Briefly reading summaries of the light novel, it starts to make sense where the plot was going. Trying to fit a somewhat complex story into 12 episodes combined with painfully bad choices in direction just robbed the audience....

I have a soft sport for what I call the "mediocre magical battle school anime of the season" and for some reason Qualidea Code stands out as a pretty decent entry in my silly made-up genre. Despite being trope-heavy, I enjoyed the characters and the plot better than most of these average seasonal entries in the genre. The MC is strong but is very prideful and slow to catch on to things which keeps them from dominating the story and falling into the power fantasy/oberpowered trope that most of these do. Overall it wasn't bad and the story is complete and doesn't leave many loose

The beauty of Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha isn't that it does anything particularly original, but that it somehow perfected the average seasonal school-battle-fantasy-anime and the result is highly enjoyable. It's things like the surprisingly crisp animation, CGI & audio, likable characters, good OP & ED, decently strong plot, and overall consistency that made this show quite honestly awesome.
It's kind of like going to a fast food joint and being surprised with an amazingly prepared burger that makes all your taste buds ring. Not to be held to Ruth Chris Steakhouse standards, but to be savored nonetheless. There really is no show-ruining flaw that makes this ...

If you're considering this anime in 2021, it's nowhere near as bad as the ratings put it off as in my opinion. Nothing about this deserves a 2 out of 10 and it's honestly a decent average anime if you just accept it for what it is. Is it revolutionary? heck no but it's not a terrible entry in the "average battle fantasy of the season" series. If there's anything this show does seriously wrong it's not shipping Kufa and Rosetti harder for their obvious good match lol.
If you want a series that perfects this trite formula to immense enjoyment, The Misfit of Demon ...

It's a real shame when you see Shingeki no Kyojin sitting at a solid mid 8's score yet people tend to hate on Koutetsujou no Kabaneri to the point it's completely underrated. It's hard to believe some people really shot this down with 2's and 3's.
Great work by Wit Studio plus another amazing scoring by Hiroyuki Sawano alone makes you wonder what left some folks so with such a strong dislike. The story is enjoyable and for the time allotted doesn't drag its feet. I guess some people just prefer the never ending sufferfest of Shingeki no Kyojin....
