Plunderer is an interesting story dragged down by terrible animation, bland art direction and unnecessary filler.
I'm not one for shounen battle anime, but the promise of ecchi made me curious enough to try a few episodes of Plunderer. And at first, it's not bad. The world has interesting lore, the characters are decent, even if not all that interesting, and ecchi was delivered. I was happy. After a few episodes, though, things seem to slow down: the same questions are being asked again and again, with only the most minuscule of answers being provided. Perphaps worse still, the ecchiness quickly became stale, limiting itself
...
to talking about panties colors.
This slog reaches its peak on episode 8, with 20 minutes that might just have been copied and pasted from episode 7. On the flip side, after 20 minutes of garbage, it ends with a 3-second twist that actually moves the plot forward in an absurd (but interesting) way. The next episode capitalizes on this to push on the plot forward and answer those pesky questions that were being ignored from episode 1. Finally, we reached the start line.
Episode 9, then, could mark the turning point for Plunderer, where an uninspired ecchi battle anime finds its own identity and pace and courageously takes its first step into meaningful story-telling. Except the production sucks.
I hadn't really noticed until now, but the technical level of Plunder is low. Bottom-of-the-barrel low. Empty, repeated background, stiff animation, characters that change proportions between scenes, some very lazy design that drinks way too much from the Fullmetal Alchemist fountain, and just terrible dialogue writing, that makes almost every conversation cliched and boring. This really becomes apparent when the main characters finally reach a city. There's absolutely no background sound effects, all buildings are identical 2-story houses the whole town over, and even though it's supposed to be a huge city, there's only about 20 people living in it (all of which are probably twins, given their similarities). It's hard to believe this comes from a professional animation studio, given that it exudes amateurism from every aspect.
And its a shame, because Plunderer has the foundation laid for a good anime. It probably would never be amazing, given that the source manga also lacks a bit of imagination, but it could be a good action anime with tantalizing fan-service sprinkled here and there. What we got, however, was simply a mess of lazyness and shame.

TL;DR: If you want a light-hearted comedy romance that is plenty stupid but still loveable, Budoukan might be the anime for you this season.
Watching the first episode, I was already cringing and dreading what future episodes might hold. In less than 25 minutes, you see our MC go from a cute and respectably-dressed young women to a part-timer slob with a single cloth change that spends all her money and time obsessing over the least popular and most introverted member of an underground idol group along her wota friends. Yikes. Yet, somehow, it left me curious enough to watch the seconds episode. And I'm glad
...
I did.
Unlike the first episode and its cringe-fest of buying 10 CDs for 30 seconds of hand-shaking, the second episode show us the second half of this ridiculous relationship by focusing on the idols themselves. While people who walk the path of fame are typically framed as egotistical and self-centered, this episode shows that, not only they are people like anyone else, those milked fans, extorted as they might be, are still beloved by their idols, bringing meaning and motivation to them.
And as such, the stage is set for a yuri romance between the MC and her romantic interest, the ever so distant idol Maina Ichii. If the anime can keep the balance between humorous, borderline cringy fandom and actual romance with steady character and relationship progress, it will be one of the best romance animes of the past few years.

Do you miss Light Yagami, everyone's favorite villainous megalomaniac character from Death Note? Sure you do. Well, miss no more, because I'm glad to tell you that Ajin features one of the best, most intelligently written villains since Light or Lelouch. Yes, the 3D animation is divisive (personally, it didn't bother me), but the casting is spot-on and the writing is simply fantastic. The main and supporting characters are all likeable and interesting, and play well their part in the story. However, once the story really starts moving, the villain completely steals the show.
If you are longing for some quality Seinen anime, give Ajin a
...
try, you won't regret it.
A warning, though: Ajin is a slow starter. Stick with it and it will definitely grow on you.

Great animation won't save this slice of life comedy from absolute failure.
--
Overall: If you are looking for the fast-paced, pop cultured infused humor of Lucky Star, the strangeness of Azumanga Daioh or the cuteness of K-On, look elsewhere. Nichijou features obnoxious characters, jokes that drag on and a uneventful setting.
--
Story: There is no real story to Nichijou. Minor events that happen before are acknowledged later on, but don't have any impact.
--
Characters: The characters fall flat on their faces. Obnoxious, their "character traits" are over-exposed and take away from the almost-jokes the series try to tell.
--
Comedy: Most jokes drag on for too long and lack
...
a proper punchline. Random jokes are just dreams or imagination from a character with no fantastic element. Unfunny running jokes. Fail everywhere, everytime, hard.
There are a few interesting scenes and funny moments, such as an principal suplexing a deer, but that's a one second scene in a 5 minute joke. Watching a 25 episode for 10 seconds of almost-laughter is just not worth it. Watch something better
--
Art: The only praise I can give to Nichijou. The animation is fluid and contributes to the (few) funny jokes, and the character design is quite nice. However, without proper content, it's not enough to call Nichijou a decent anime.
