Golden Kamuy has a lot of interesting components, but it can't decide what it wants to be and consistently gives you tonal whiplash.

On one hand it's cute and informational, it's about food and Ainu culture. Then with no flow whatsoever, it's violent, cruel, and bloody, it's about skinning people and murder and betrayal. These two things simply don't jive for me. It might have been possible to make it make sense, but the way it's executed is unrefined. It goes from really lighthearted G content to mature content in the blink of an eye.

Also the mix of characters is strange. Cold-blooded murderers are just fuzzy ... wuzzy good guys when it's convenient. The Ainu lead is incredibly cute but why is she 12(ish)? There was no need to make her a child, she drinks sake along with them and acts like an adult, so why make her a child? I think it's creepy. Also, the show is strangely sexual. Men who are sex crazed, men who can't stop talking about dicks and sex, men who get boners from violence. It's meant to be funny but it just didn't fit the overall theme of the show.

Aside from my complaining the show is fairly entertaining and I don't think it's a waste of time. It's definitely good for when you're indecisive about what to watch next or just need something to mindlessly watch for the time being.
