I can say this was a great anime. There were gaps and holes and a lot of things i didn't like but i was thoroughly entertained the entire time! First I would like to say I haven't read the novels an all speculation is based solely upon the anime. What I can say from the start is it takes some getting used to knowing that there is this massive back story that we didn't get to see and that there could be enough content for a prequel season however after the fourth episode that stopped bothering me as some things were being explained. I liked ... that they used flashbacks but didn't completely kill you with them. They were moderate and gave the info they needed to.

The only thing I disliked about the anime was throughout the first half it was almost entirely fan service with only a little action. Sure one would expect it to have ecchi in it but i was expecting much more action. I dove into this anime expecting a lot of action and got a lot of boobs. Not that it is a major complaint since this was however satisfied very quickly after the first few episodes. the anime was a little spotty with the story, a plot never really made itself present. At points it seemed like we were getting glimpses of a plot but in then turned out to be miniscule with the constant revealings of other plot points.

GOD FUCKING DAMN! Akatsuki's badass level is OFF THE CHARTS! I love this character quite a bit. He has amazing power and the author didn't screw up by making him overpowered because in fact the author made him unable to use magic bearing a weakness however he is just so badass that he turned his weakness into a strength. All the other characters are very well thought through although none are as captivating.

They really did kind of force a second season and I really hope we get one! I don't necessarily like reading action light novels because much of it is visual so I hope the anime adaptation carries on. Many things were left lingering and I feel as though this season was barely scratching the surface because the only time a clear plot was in fact introduced was at the very end of the season. They left way too many things lingering but that's because they were probably just following the novels. This anime is well worth watching and I really hope we will get to see a second season.

This anime was refreshing since I have been watching a lot of stuff that is a little bit above average recently. the characters were well developed. The main character got annoying sometimes however the heroine is a very well written character. Her friend Saki was by far one of the most annoying characters in all the animes I have seen, at least in the beginning, by the end, my mind completely changed about her.

The lines in this anime are probably the best part. Kaori's mother has a hilarious personality and says the funniest lines throughout the entire series. The dialogue ... is very well written and very humorous.

The artwork was only bothersome at some points because at a profile point of view of the characters, their faces looked slightly deformed. The only other complaint I have about the artwork is how far apart the artist drew the eyes. I didn't really judge to harshly based off that because it wasn't too much of a nuisance.

Overall the anime is well worth watching. It isn't quite a masterpiece and what prevents it from being one is the lack of depth in the story. The story concept is somewhat cliche but it was executed very well. The ending was also probably not the ending many viewers wanted to see however it wasn't a curve ball either. Without spoiling it, I can say that their was hope for the ending many probably desired, however it did not lead you on like others do and did not give any expectation. The synopsis itself does a good job of summarizing the anime but it does sound cliche. Realistically, it is a used concept. The reason why that is okay is because the writer did a much better job with it than others have. by no means was it unique and that is what prevented it from being a 9 or 10. Another thing that prevented a higher score was missing realism by just a hair. Sure a case where someone forgets their friends every week is unlikely but that isn't the part that was unrealistic. What I thought was not done well enough was the lack of drama. If you think about this happening in real life, it would probably play out with much more drama in the character's lives and that goes back to the story lacking some depth. The anime I would compare this to is nogizaka haruka no himitsu. There was nothing strikingly unique about it and it was somewhat generic yet is was really good despite not going into the deep, dramatic, and depressing genre that it seems like it could do well in. Definitely one of the better slice-of-life animes and is something that anyone who enjoys this genre without a ton of romance will like.

To start, this anime lost points for me mainly because of character development, plot gaps, and the first three episodes.

The first quarter of the anime is quite hard to watch, it isn't interesting and it seems kind of generic except for a couple things that don't get a whole lot of attention until later. At the fourth episode, things really start to pick up and start moving quite fast and WILL keep you intrigued. It has been a while since I have had the pleasure of viewing an anime that made me struggle to stop watching before it got too late at night.

The character ... development is mediocre. The characters are enjoyable but only one is unique and stands out and she is a side character. The main character's sister, mana, is the only character that I believe was unique and stood out. Another side character, at least she is in the first half, she becomes more important in the second half, is Nemuru. Nemuru has the typical tsundere attitude making her not necessarily unique however she is not the love interest which makes her a little more interesting, which brings me to the next part of the review.

The primary heroine in the anime is introduced in the beginning of the anime and immediately falls in love with our main character. It has been seen many times in anime, the main character moves to a new town and a girl he only just met is in love with him. This is explained better around episode eight. The main reason why the anime lost a few points in terms of plot development and characters is because while the mystery part of the story really kept me intrigued, the romance part lacks quite a bit. Now I didn't watch the anime with intentions of viewing a romance however it is obviously hinted at due to our heroine clinging to our main character. The main character denies her affections in the beginning as seen in every other similar anime and like every other similar situation, he eventually warms up to her, however, the issue is that there wasn't much of a smooth transition. The main character goes from being that reluctant friend to caring for her on an almost romantic level in an instant. And I mean the transition took place over the course of fifteen minutes and we don't see him think over his thoughts, it just happens and because of this, the writer fails to evoke emotion with his characters. Now this may have not been the goal however I saw it as a good opportunity to do so. Later in the story, the writer does a much better job of creating emotion with his characters.

Those were the main reasons it lost points. The other reasons were because of slight discontinuity such as disappearing characters that the main character is concerned about and looks for answers but then his attention is diverted and you practically forget that character was part of the story. Kind of like Ino in the Naruto series.

Now, let me go into why it is a good series and why I gave it an 8 instead of the average 6 or 7. In regards to other reviews, I have not seen any other works by this writer so I do not have anything to compare it to yet. I believe that what this anime brings to the table is suspense, and intensity. The writer doesn't hold back and creates an emotion of suspense and really keeps the watcher wanting to continue. The plot thickens with every episode and while it starts slow, it just gets better and better the farther you get. For twelve episodes, it is definitely worth the watch. Most of you who are looking for the action and suspense will enjoy it. If you are looking for a action/romance, this is not it. There isn't enough romance for this to be considered a romance genre. Yes there are romantic elements but it is mostly one-sided and without spoiling anything, the conversation that will give you the answers to the questions you will form throughout the anime will reveal that you were tricked into thinking those romance elements were actually romance. It is worth watching like I said, but watch with the intention of watching an action suspense and mystery genre and you will love it!
