Based on the early episodes of Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun, it becomes very clear how much the female lead character resembles Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou's. While the male protagonists differ quite a bit, both girls are study overachievers obcessed about being the number1 student, which, as a result forces loneliness, social apathy and awkwardness into their personalities and lives. A fated encounter with the male lead starts to change the way they prioritize values in life and slowly start to open their hearts towards love. It's also worthy of note, the often introspective tone of the female lead with regular monologuesque analysis of their own feelings. Even the OP seems to use similar composition formulas.
