I have seen a lot of crappy shows, and this isn't one of them, it actually reminds me of shows like "Code Geass", and "86". The setting is unique, and it triggers my imagination and interest in it. Lately there has been a ton of generic fantasy shows coming out, and this show is better than all of them.

The reason I believe this show has gathered dislike though is for the constant killing off or harming of characters, early on, you expect to be a bigger part of the story. It also shows disgusting parts of humanity in an absurd way. So people do not ... feel like they can self insert or even relate to anyone in the show. But it seems more realistic than the usual happy go lucky shows. Humans are selfish, and greedy, they don't really care about their fellows and are quick to dismiss and hate others if they are deemed "different". This is what this series shows, and what people wish to pretend does not exist.

The show is not "all over the place" as some people have put it, it introduced a whole world with a background setting already in place, and as time goes on more of the world gets introduced. Each new part of the world they introduced was well foreshadowed previously. So it continues to capture my interest. For other reviewers and posters who do not understand how the wasteland came into existence, or the motivations of humanity or the main character, or even the witches, I believe they have not paid attention to the show.

The main character mellows out as time goes on which should be expected, and this is not bad writing at all, in fact it is good writing. He turns from a murdering psychopath to a chill revenge seeker. I call this good character development.

I believe this show was just done too quickly, it should have been dragged out to maybe 16 episodes and give people time to relate to characters before killing them off. It just really dumped too much too quickly. At the end they introduce even more of the world and it made me curious of what happens next. I hope for a season 2, but that seems unlikely so I'll read the manga instead.


Art is superior, it is not perfect but it is among the better done out there. I have noticed many more flaws in other animes, so I wouldn't take any artistic complaints seriously.

I'm not really sure what to say here. There are plenty of reviewers who rated this lowly and tried to not very subtly hide their reasons for actually disliking the show. There are goblins and goblins rape and kill, people die. This show actually goes into the details many other fantasy settings are actually afraid of getting in to. The dark parts of the adventurer world. I wouldn't even call it "edgy" it simply gives a glance of the realities and dangers of adventuring. Id consider it actually very realistic and well thought out. The main character uses his head to get through situations, he ... is not super strong just someone who has mastered the skill of hunting goblins. The story focuses around that aspect, delves into his history and reasons, and slowly shows his growth as a person throughout the series.

I would probably consider this to be one of the best if not the best anime of the fantasy-type other world adventure animes. To me art matters a lot. The art style in this show is very well done, and the attention to detail is exquisite. There are some aspects which use CG and that could have been done better. But to me it's not very noticeable.

The music is great, I actually became a fan of Mili, the person who does the opening and ending soundtracks, because of this series.

The characterization is detailed. The characters all have their own unique personalities, and many people who are even simply background characters you get to know of and feel like you have a subtle understanding of them. You can easily see the growth of the characters as the series progresses and watching the growth of characters is also one of the parts I enjoy. There is a quirk where none of them are actually named though.

I really did enjoy this series and look forward to the next season. If you don't enjoy death or tough realities and hardships in your anime then feel free to skip this. But I hope you are able to leave personal reasons such as politics if you do.

I read the first 2 most popular reviews and thought to myself "do these people even know what a harm means?" This anime is not a "harem" anime. It is more like an action anime. The first episode you have a classmate who has a crush on the main character, then an older cousin of the main character pops into the scene, but there is obviously no love interest on either side there. Then you have a dragon girl who falls into their hands and that's where the real relationship and story is.
Now for the review.
The story I thoroughly enjoy. Stories are made ... out of the setting, characters, and the plot. The setting is very good and I can imagine a lot from it which continues my interest in the story, though the characters might seem a bit cliche and annoying at times they do not bother me to the extent to not watch further. The plot also might feel a bit cliche at times though most of the plot is the actual setting and it is new and interesting, and there are no gaping plot holes as of yet. For me all I have to enjoy is the setting for me to enjoy the anime, because I don't feel like I can predict what happens next. When I get to a point where I can predict it, that's when it gets boring. So the story is a 10
The art isn't spectacular or new but it doesn't let down expectations of this day and age. Like Freezing has where I feel the art is lacking a lot. So I gave it an 8
The sound I do believe the opening sequence and ending sequence is very catchy. Though the sound also means the voice actors and background sound too. I have no complaints about the background sound and Rie Kugimiya seems to be trying something new other than a tsundere role for once. Difficult to say if it fits her or not because I am so used to hearing her in tsundere roles. I also give this an 8.
Characters is something hard to be unique in. The main character was very annoying at first because I really do hate those indecisive characters. But he seems to have gotten decisive come episode 3.. so hard to tell now. The other characters, eccentric scientist, older dependable cousin who only uses the main character and is really loose. Innocent young female lead who falls in love with the main character without knowing much about the world. Not really sure what to rate this but I don't rate the characters very highly, though there is only so many personalities you can actually use in stories and it's difficult to say you haven't seen them all. I give it a 7, might be being generous.
Enjoyment, this is one of my favorites of the season. I'm looking forward to seeing the next episode. I don't give high numbers easily and think if something deserves a low rating it will get a low rating. I wont forget about the first 5 numbers! 1-5 if Something deserves a 4 I'll give it.

So over all I think this is an 8. Not a miyazaki work. But it isn't bad in fact 8 means very good.
