Emma - A Victorian Romance is not your typical anime about maids. There's no ecchi, no randomness, no sweat drops, and no high school shenanigans. It is a serious romance-drama, which is a welcome change from the usual anime subject matter. It is set in a realistic interpretation of Victorian Britain, with many historical allusions that only add to the depth of the world. Overall it feels like a bit of a mash-up of Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella and Pride and Prejudice: typical forbidden love plot between members of opposite social classes.
