I like thought provoking Anime. And if you do too, you'll enjoy Code Geass just as much as I did.
The plot, for starters, was nothing short of brilliant. The backstories of the main characters are fledged out sufficiently, without being too far fetched. Also, the plot may have its dark moments (observe the pwnage Zero deals out), but this is contrasted by its lighthearted comedic scenes (chase that cat!). Not to mention the Mechas. Ah, the Gawain.
The artwork, done by CLAMP, seemed a bit odd for a Mecha anime at first, but they proved to be a lot more fitting than I expected. Even
...
the Mecha scenes were well animated, and kept the adrenaline pumping.
The music was, on the whole, alright. The BGMs were all quite standard, but in terms of the OPs and EDs, I only liked the first OP (Colors - FLOW) and the last ED ( Mosaic Kakera - Sunset Swish). The others were, well, meh.
The characters, however, were what really attracted me to this show. Lelouch, on his quest for vengeance against the Emperor, is starkly contrasted by his longtime friend Suzaku, who opted to change the Brittanian empire from the inside. As Zero, Lelouch has no qualms about using Human lives like chess pieces to carry out his plans, while Suzaku is completely against the idea of killing anyone (for now) (also, a walking contradiction, since he joined the army. Go figure). One of the highlights of the show was watching these two old friends clash on the battlefield. It adds a weird sense of realism to it all.
Overall, even if you watch it just for the Mecha action, Code Geass is a series that I highly recommend to anyone interested.

This anime is a real classic. Even though it came out just over a decade ago, its fan base is still as strong as ever, especially with the Rebuild of Evangelion airing just a while back in Japanese theatres.
Genuinely shocking moments, a complex plot, and one of the best examples of characterisation and expression make this a timeless classic. I’ve watched every episode at least 10 times, and I still can’t get bored with it. Even with this anime being a decade old, the animation is still quite impressive, even if it’s not on par with some of the more recent anime. The voice acting
...
(sub, not the dub ) is brilliant too. I still can hear Shinji’s maniacal screams ringing in my head. And not to worry, the series still has plenty of mecha action.
In short, this anime is a must watch for any anime fan. Some will like it, some will hate it, but its hard to disagree that this is one of the most stirring pieces of animation you'll ever watch.

If you're looking for some innocent High School Romance show, move along, you're at the wrong anime. The only thing that’s innocent about this is the title.
But if you don’t mind disturbing, sometimes shocking, but nonetheless always interesting shows, it’s a show very worth watching.
For me, what really stands out is the character development (or degeneration) and the emotions portrayed. Take Kotonoha, for example. Following the progress of her mental state over the course of a few episodes is truly engaging and disturbing. The same can be said for Makoto (or THAT BASTARD, as some call him), who goes from shy to uber pimp in
...
just a few episodes. Seriously, you can count the characters who haven’t slept with him on one hand (including the guys). The Voice Acting was also great, adding tension and enhancing the atmosphere of the setting.
Just about the only thing that bothered me was the censorship. Seriously, black blood sounds good in theory, but looks stupid on the screen. Then again, if they didn’t censor the final episode… , to keep spoilers to a minimum, lets just say that people would be a lot more shocked and / or mortified.
At any rate, School Days is a haunting, captivating, soap opera- esque anime, and undoubtedly one of the best shows in its genre (harems). It tells a story of romance from a perspective so rarely seen among today’s anime. It speaks of the heart’s ability to be treacherous and cruel towards its own kind, just so it can satisfy itself. I highly recommend it, especially if you’ve played or heard of the original PC game, and can stand a bit of gore.
