I really loved this anime. Characters are great, the story was engaging and I can’t say I was bored ever watching this show. That being said I do have one grievance that is probably more of a personal issue than a story telling one. IF ERIS LOVES RUDY WHY TF DID SHE WRITE THAT LETTER! It makes sense character wise don’t get me wrong. She’s a proud girl and has always had trouble speaking her mind and has only on rare occasions made compliments without punching him afterwards, BUT that was probably the WORST possible way to say you’re going off to get stronger to ... feel like you can protect the person who’ve you relied on for 3 years. Like COME ON. Ive only watched the anime, so maybe the manga explains things better. I can already see the issues that come from straight up dumping the guy. He’ll likely run into another girl, fall for her and now we have some annoying love triangle. I’m glad they didn’t have her go be the guys concubine, but this feels somehow worse. They sure as shit better have something good coming up for those two.

The show started off strong with an interesting premise and fell completely flat once I realized the writers don’t know what the meaning of character development is. Memempu starts tolerable, quickly turns to unbearable and stays firmly planted in that region throughout the show. Gagumber is barely any better and his dynamic with Memempu is horrendously annoying. It gets no better throughout the season. I only gave it a five because other than hating how the two of them interact the show still had some promise and hopefully season 2 shows us some massive changes to the characters. The other side characters are aight, but ... nobody is fantastic.

I’ve never written a review on this site before. I usually just add to my list and give it a rating for my personal anime list, but this time I had a major gripe with this show that NEEDED to be said.

Now to begin I’m aware that the show overall isn’t going to be Oscar Nominated by any means. It’s more that I’m a sucker for this genre and although it always ends the same; with little to no development between the two main love interests until the last two to three ... episodes of the season and then takes a major step back when the next season comes around. That being said, NOTHING HAPPENED in this series (no season 2 yet so I’m taking this as the one and only season). *spoilers* Masamune takes a huge leap when he kisses Adagaki in the school play, but then that’s it. No follow-up, no development between them, NOTHING. I mean fake Masamune (kanetsugu) shows up once in the karaoke bar and then poof it’s like he never existed when they end episode 12 on the bench. HOW DO YOU START WITH AN ARRANGED MARRIAGE PROPOSAL AND THEN NEVER GIVE US A RESOLUTION! It’s one thing to have a ridiculously lackluster finale, but it’s another to end on what I could barely call a cliffhanger because who the hell knows if they even planned on finishing that plot at all?

To finish my rant disguised as an anime review, I’d say the show was actually pretty interesting and had me invested up until episode 12. Unfortunately, like with The Promised Neverland, if an ending is dogsh*t enough it basically ruins the rest of the show. I’d only recommend this to masochists who get off on disappointment.
