I came across this anime while watching some random Hoshina fan videos and thought, "Wow, this guy is so badass," so I decided to give this series a shot without reading the synopsis or watching any trailers.

The first thing that caught my attention was the incredible opening art. I believe it's 3D. I love the abstract feel of the opening because it's so refreshing to see an anime opening that focuses more on visual imagery than on the characters themselves.

Initially, I was taken aback by the appearance of the main character. It's unusual for me to see a shounen-type main character who's an older man. ... Despite appearing to be in his 30s, he can be quite childish at times, presumably for comedic effect. It's refreshing to see a non-shounen main character, but I think his design is still a bit basic. Additionally, I noticed that some of the character designs seemed a bit off compared to their appearances in the manga.

I'm still trying to understand the origins of the Kaiju. What are their motives? Where do they come from? Why did the Kaiju in the hospital want Kafka as its body? Maybe these questions will be answered in another season of the anime. Also, Kafka using the enemies' power to save humanity is a common theme in action anime. Similar patterns can be seen in works such as Attack on Titan and Tokyo Ghoul where they utilise enemies as weapons to contribute to mankind.

In terms of the combat scenes, I thoroughly enjoyed them. The battles between Hoshina and Kaiju number 10, Kaiju no 8 VS Kaiju no 10, and the growth of Shinomiya and Reno were all packed with amazing sound effects, music, and visual effects. Even though I was somewhat disappointed that it's only 12 episodes long, but I'm optimistic that season 2 will be just as good.

Overall, I really enjoyed watching this anime and I look forward to seeing Kafka's growth in the future, not just as Kaiju no. 8, but as a human and a member of the Defense Force. I'd give this anime a 8 out of 10. Please do give this anime a try!
