The story doesn't bother to hide its intentions. If you've read a certain quantity of manga, the ending is very predictable, but this plays out in favor of the story and is very intentional. Since the conclusion is clear, you gradually develop a growing sense of anxiety and dread, which increases proportionally to how attached you grow to the cast. What could've been.
Oshi no Ko's last ~40 chapters are the single biggest fumble I've ever seen in any type of media/story. The first chapters are absolute cinema, all the way until the Theatre Arc, where the story peaks. After that, it goes down a little, but still a very good read. It does a lot of build up for the ending of the story, where all the mysteries will be unraveled and all of our beloved protagonists will finish their respective growth and... instead we get what we got.
