(Read below the line for comments made before I finished the anime)
Honestly, the ending left something to be desired. If you are interested in romance, this may not be the anime for you. There are elements of romance all over the place and there is even a hint to a definite couple...but, don't get your hopes up because there isn't anything beyond that.
It was a well made anime besides the problem(s) listed below.
TO SUM IT UP:
*Positivites: original plot, the art was beautiful, the characters (especially male) were gorgeous and had a variety of personalities
*Negatives: repetitive problem/conflict in the story (see below the line
...
for explanation), (previous neg led to) flaw in main character's development (since she kept on going in circles), the sound quality when music started was not as great as it should've been for a music-based anime, ***things were left open-ended...but maybe there will be a second part or something (-_-*)
----------------------------------------
Note: I am still watching the anime. Thus, I will edit this review once I have finished.
I feel like there is a main conflict that keeps repeating in this anime. It seems it is resolved, but then the problem will come back around as if it was never solved in the first place. What troubles me the most is that this problem has to do with the main character's (and the main plot's) development. By making the problem reappear after being solved, it as if the writer couldn't come up with anything better or just keeps contradicting herself* (I had to blame her* since I'm sure she worked hard on this project.) It makes the viewer not like the character--->the main character seems immature, naive, ignorant, selfish...however, the story does not illustrate the character in such a fashion. In other words, she is supposed to be this kind, caring, gentle person who learns from others. However, this problem makes her seem to block off the lessons she learns from others. Urgh, it's hard to explain...but yeah.
Other than that, it's a pretty nice anime...definitely something new. The characters are cute overall (and very GORGEOUS!!). The sound for this anime would've been 10...however, considering the fact that it is an anime about music, they could've made the quality a bit better. For example, it just didn't stand out as much as Nodame Cantabile.

All I can say is AMAZING!!
The story is very cute...and simple. It pulls you in without overworking you...you don't have to put too much thought into figuring out the emotions/actions and you don't get on a devasting emotional rollercoaster. You just go with the flow and the next thing you know, you are watching the ending with a smile on your face. It's kind of warms your heart. Of course, you do think in the back of your head, "will it be alright"? However, the story is just so nicely set-up that you just go "oh heck, it was cute."
You
...
should definitely watch it. Something nice to give you a break from all those typical shounen or mind-numbing psychological/drama animes (hehehe...not that I'm hating on those genres).
P.S...I have to add a comment about the art...something that really impressed me was the background...everything was nicely detailed and the people in the background (near) flawlessly carried out their own activities. ^_^* hehe...I thought I should just mention that since it was on my mind.

Kareshi Kanojo no Jijō (Kare Kano for short) is an amazing journey of a group of high schoolers with the main focus revolving around the power couple Soichiro Arima and Yukino Miyazawa. It is falsely advertised as a simple comedy/romance genre manga. There is so much more to the story, to be specific, there is a very dark side that makes the reader's heart wrench in pain as they watch the character struggle and grow. It has elements of psychological drama that are in line with stories such as "This Ugly Yet Beautiful World," "School Days," "Ef-A Tale of Memories," and "Elfen

Lied."
The anime/manga starts off very peaceful and it seems to be your typical comedy/romance. I suggest you stay with the manga, don't drop it so easily. It picks up it's pace...and at this point I will tell you how this manga made me feel, since I can't judge everyone's reaction... The story starts twisting and turning; as soon as you think something is solved, another situation pops up. It all made me feel so anxious...I became addicted. The mangaka, Masami Tsuda does a great job developing the characters...she makes you fall in love with the characters. In most other animes/manga, there is usually one character you yell at throughout the story. Yet, in Kare Kano, right when you start questioning a character's intelligence, they surprise you. Either they do what any sensible person should do (if they think about a situation calmly) or they reveal something that is so emotionally twisted that you can't blame them (or you just feel their pain so you sympathize). Of course, there are characters I didn't like, but it never developed into straight up annoyance--I don't know, it was such an emotional rollercoaster.
IN CONCLUSION, this is a great manga that will take you on a journey. It will make you laugh, cry, grin, hurt, hate, heal, and love. If you really think about it, and draw some parallels between the story and real life, you may even discover something about yourself. Maybe I am glorifying the manga a little too much...you should judge it for yourself, but you won't be able to do that unless you read it...so what are you waiting for? Get started ^_^
