This is my very first review, what an anime to do my first review on. It's probably not going to be very good compared to others, but regardless I hope you enjoy.
There will be no spoilers.
Serial Experiments Lain is most definitely not an anime for everyone. Each viewer will have a vastly different experience watching this anime, and by vastly I mean vastly. Your going to have to pay a lot of attention to understand in your own way whats going on in this anime.
Story (10): The story of Serial Experiments Lain is something that should be experienced. Everyone who watches this

anime will have a different opinion on what exactly is going on. Some people will find the story extremely boring, some will be right into it. I could try to explain the story to you, but my take on it could be very different from yours and I believe you should go in completely blind to get the most of the story.
Art (7): This anime is fairly old, it first aired in 1998. I personally liked the art style and animation of this anime. It's held up fairly well compared to the anime of today, but it's not going to knock your socks off. My only gripe is that sometimes the colors look fairly faded.
Obviously, there isn't any flashy scenes of animation for the most part and a lot of scenes nothing really moves. However, some of the scenes provide a good dose of mind ****ery and come off very creepy and disturbing in a good way.
The character design is what you would expect from a anime from the 90's.
Characters (10): The only character that gets any real development at all is Lain. Most other characters don't have any development what so ever and that is a good thing in this anime's case. Only two other characters get any real development, if you decide to watch this anime you'll understand why.
My personal enjoyment (9): This anime will make you think and you'll have to pay attention, preferably watch the whole anime in one sitting. If you don't like slow paced anime, or animes that are very slow paced, require you to pay full on attention to everything that goes on and has a lot of philosophical meaning to it, you should probably skip this anime. It's not for everyone. Everyone's own interpretation and enjoyment will be vastly different which is what makes this anime so unique.
If you enjoyed this anime give its sister anime's a try Haibane Renmei and Technolyze
