Both have similar meta commentary within their genre and feature world-ending events that the characters need to come to terms with to solve.

Akuma-kun (ONA)
add

Both Gegege no Kitarou and Akuma-Kun are adaptations of Shigeru Mizuki's works. Both have a goregeous art style that compliment the horror themes and tone. Despite Gegege 2018 being more kids oriented, with Akuma-Kun being much more gruesome and violent in tone, both have themes of death and human desires.

Both Akuma-Kun and Hakaba Kitarou are adaptations of Shigeru Mizuki's work. However unlike their counterparts (Hakaba Kitarou being related to Gegege no Kitarou), these adaptations take a much darker approach to their respective franchises. They're gruesome and feature many depressing tales of death. They both also have a gorgeous art style that suit the overall tone.

Popee the Performer

Much like director Ryuuji Masuda of Popee, Naomi Iwata specializes in full CG anime, with Gregory Horror Show being some of his best. GHS has this incredibly strange atmosphere, invoking similar feelings of weirdness that Popee does, but on a more mysterious level. It's not full of crude humour like Popee, rather it mainly focuses on Horror elements. Story is full of bizarre encounters and scenarios similar to those seen in Popee. Would highly recommend Gregory Horror Show if you liked Popee.
