Oshi no Ko is a series that started in what a way, huh, probably one of the most remarkable first episodes ever.
You got two options, you love it or you hate it.
Most people nowadays are on the hating side.
Akasaka Aka's known for his previous work "Kaguya-sama" which its final arc was pretty condensed, so, now we know him for his abrupt endings.
Oshi no Ko pitifully fails in the exact same way, astonishing beginning, solid mid part and hella mediocre ending.
Let's get to the point:
Plot: 5
Oshi no Ko's premise sounds kind of weird, yeah, they were fans of the #1 idol, Hoshino Ai, Sarina is already
...
dead before the beginning and she was the one who made Goro an Ai's follower, he's a surgeon btw, later, he had to help Ai to give birth her children, and all of a sudden, a stalker found out where Ai was and decided to kill not her, her physician, why? Who knows.
Magically, Amemiya Goro reborn as Ai's child, named Hoshino "Aquamarine" and he's got a twin sister, Hoshino Ruby, which we later in the story, discover she's actually Goro's patient, Tendouji Sarina, why, if Sarina died waaay before Goro did, reborn at the exact same time and at the exact same place? I mean, she could've been a worm during that time gap, but it's never revealed to us.
Ai was having a huge impact not only on the stage but also in the film industry. Director-kun discovered that Aqua wasn't a normal child and offers him a treat, in which he had to act, in exchange for her mother to get protagonism in the movie. He meets the best character of the work in this production, Kana, she was considered a genius and Aqua takes away the spotlight from her and years after years, she falls in love.
One day, both Aqua and Ruby were discussing about who their father would be, Ai heard that and then calls him, gives him her address and got killed. Then blud comitted an auto kill.
Aqua swears he will take revenge so he also got in the industry just for the mere purpose of climbing positions and make a movie 'bout his dad to corner him.
He refused to Ruby wanting to become an idol, later he changes his mind and reborn B-Komachi, with Ruby, Memcho and his beloved Kana.
Omitting the center of the story, which was pretty solid and idgaf talking about it, let's go for the ending.
The movie was a hit, Aqua met his father, Kamiki Hikaru, Hikaru tells Aqua he didn't mean to murder Ai and victimizes. Aqua then summons him near the shore and stabs himself to make people reckon his dad knocked him off and then he threw himself into the ravine while holding his father and they both died.
I mean, why didn't he go to the police
Glad the author didn't make Aqua come to life again. 🙏
Crow girl was the supposed one who made Aqua & Ruby reborn but she was anything but noteworthy, an utter plot hole.
Akane somehow knew all of this was staged by Aqua, and Hikaru didn't really killed him, but it was Aqua the one.
Hikaru was accused of all kinds of crimes and he was really the bad of the movie, and unlike most people think, Hikaru was surely evil, he manipulated Nino and Ai and Goro's murderer, don't act like he would've been the victim, mates.
Kana slapped Aqua's corpse on the face while crying cuz he promised her he wouldn't die, Ruby was crying and crying, but then B-Komachi attended to Ai's dream, the Tokyo Dome and fulfilled her dream, also Ruby's one.
I think the main message of the story is not bad, it tells us that despite our beloved ones pass away, we're still alive and we don't resolve anything just crying and having no purpose now that that one person is no longer with us. Still, there are works that do this in a better way, like Steel Ball Run, Ashita no Joe, Bokura no, Vinland Saga, Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso and whatnot.
It still was fun to watch/read, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Characters: 6
Aqua:
A man who accomplished his mission, kill his father. We got nothing to be upset for, he was always named Aquamarine he had to die drowned, yk, his name's Aqua and water is Aqua in Latin. I swear this rotten joke is better in Spanish 😪
Ruby:
Aqua's sister, she was Sarina years ago, she wanted to achieve her mom's dream. She still loves her doctor and her brother confesses to her he is him.
Pitifully, we didn't get to see the northern ending.
Kana:
Akane: The girl Aqua met while acting for the show, they pretendes to be a couple, she fell and love. Always the same story.
Akane: She met Aqua while acting for a TV show and fell in love with him, why is always the same cheesy plot, dayum? Coming to the ending, she would've agreed being Aqua's accomplice, 'cause she loved him, so much 🤥
Ai:
She never felt what love is and blah blah, everything revolves around her after she passed away, but she didn't have that much time on screen to evaluate her.
Miyako: Best mom
Memcho: Who?
Crow girl: It would've been better for this mthfcr to just be a God and not a recurring character who does literally nothing.
Art: 7
Mengo did a good job on the caracters designs and expressions (eyes), backgrounds lack something that makes them feel alive, not much to say, I ain't an artist and you've already seen the same as me.
Aka announced he will be teaming with Shuumatsu no Valkyrie's artist in a medieval and full of fantasy story. If he fails doing a romcom and a thriller, what can we expect? Won't be reading it.
Overall: 6.1/10
