Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? or Is this a zombie? is truly a masterpiece. Now at first glance you may question this assessment. What do you get when you take standard ecchi character formula mixed with some classic fantasy archetypes and stick it in the parody blender? You get a Zombie, a Necromancer, a magic girl and a vampire ninja living under the same roof.
The story is simple, take your typical ecchi anime. Now turn the main male lead into a zombie. Next turn the girls hes living with into fantasy archetypes and make them all abuse and take
...
advantage of him. Oh and mix in some of the best parodied troups of anime.
Art & Sound are top notch. The opening is great, but the ending is just plain golden.
Characters are perfect. Every one of them is a classic troup anime personality given a twist that brings the show into its own.
The reason why this show gets a 10 is because of the sheer amount of jaw dropping laughter. Everything is over the top, and hilarious. If there is any downfall in this series it that the creators are just trying to hard. That said, there effort is enough to make any anime fan grin.

Fortune Arterial looks to be a vampire anime at first glance, but is in fact a romantic drama. Kohei and Sendo are the two main characters, and there blooming romance is cute and amusing to watch. Sendo is a vampire that is trying to find a new way to live without sucking human blood. The first part of the show is basically just setting up normal school life, while the second part is about sendo struggling with her urge to draw human blood.
This is essentially what you are going to get out of watching this show. A few amusing charecter
...
interactions and some good back story episodes. You will also get the first taste of a fairly interesting story between sendo and Kohei, the problem is its cut short. They have the framework hear for a truly excellent anime with great character setup and a possible unique story about a vampire choosing humanity rather than darker urges to feed. The anime promptly ends just when it gets interesting.
This is why I wait to review an anime until its over. 12 episodes is just to short for this kind of thing. I recommend to watch this if a second season comes out, otherwise its fairly pointless.

Overview: Crest of the Stars is by far one of my all time favorite anime. That said it is not for everyone. The show is set far into the future were humans have colonized the entire galaxy. The two main characters Jinto and Lafiel are well developed and entertaining to watch. If there is a down side to this show it is that it is rather slow paced, and involves a great deal of dialog. Although there are action scenes in the show, this is not for people with short attention spans.
Story: There are two stories taking place in crest
...
of the stars, both of which are connected and continue into the squeals. The first story is that of Jinto and Lafiel, without giving to much away, suffice to say that a good deal of the show focuses on there journey as they are tossed around by the events around them. The second story is that of galactic politics. Both stories are well told, and they intertwine throughout the show.
Art: Although it is a bit dated by todays standards the visuals are still as stunning as when i first saw the show several years ago. This is a prime example of aged excellence.
Sound: Crest of the stars simply would not be as good a show if not for the amazing orchestra in the background. The opening theme song does get old after a while, but the music during the show is some of the best iv herd in an anime. This is not to say the music in and of itself is superb, but rather the fusion of art, sound and context of what is happening on screen at the moment is masterfully executed. (But the music is the strongest part hear because it invokes powerful emotion in various parts).
Charecters: All of the characters in crest of the stars are well portrayed and developed. The show even hints at cast members back ground just to give you more feel for the world. Also Jino and Lafiel are two of my favorite characters out of any anime.
Enjoyment: The reason why enjoyment is lower than the other areas is simply because crest of the stars is a slow anime. It can in certain places drag on a bit, when a more modern adaptation would be paced a bit quicker. Despite this all of the other elements that make up the show more than compensate for it. (once again though if you have a short attention span you will probably get board before any of the really intersecting things happen).

Overview: Gunsmith cats is a good anime cop show. With bounty hunters, ATF, local cops and gunrunners, its hard to go wrong with this anime if your looking for a good action fix that is grounded in reality.
Story: the story is great, at least as far as cop stories go. gun runners, a Russian assassin, and a dedicated ATF agent back up the two main characters in making this show both fun and intriguing to watch. Im not going to lie though, the story is simple and you will probably figure it before the end, but thats really not why your
...
watching is it?
Art: When you watch old anime you have to judge the art by its day and not overall. If you were to judge gunsmith cats art to modern shows like macross frontier your just being unfair. I give art a 9 because for its day, and compared to other shows (like AD police that some one mentioned earlier) gunsmith cats really blows other shows of its day out of the water. Its in the detail. I also live in Chicago and they did do a very accurate job.
Sound: This show has a good music score along with appropriate sounds throughout the show. Its hard to judge sound, but suffice to say if you dont notice anything wrong they did a good job.
Charecters: Theirs just something about old anime and stereotypes. That said they knew how to make them work. Every character in gunsmith cats is about as cliche as you can get, but they are worked into the story and with a cliche story the charterers fit right in.
Enjoyment: You may be wondering why I rate it as highly as I do when iv already said its very predictable and cliche. The reason is that gunsmith cats knows what type of anime it is, and they know that there story is cookie cutter, and that there characters are very stereotypical. This all said, in our age its about presentation, not originality. Gunsmith cats is an excellent example of how to take a tried and true story and make you love the characters and engross yourself in there world if only for a little while.
If this show cant at least entertain you, your standards are way to high. This show sets a standard for presenting old material in a fun way.

Overall: Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls is a fresh take on Ecchi anime. The main charecter is only stereo typical in that he is a tad shy about sex (like most maile leads in ecchi anime), but that forgivable aspect aside he is a highly skilled samurai. With fresh visuals and a good use of sound to compliment them you should have a good time with this show.
Story: I would have given this show a lower value if is wasnt for the last 2 episodes. So far the story has been very bland, but as of episodes 10 and 11 the plot has
...
finally begun to move and its much more enjoyable. Basically something evil is moving towards japan and the two sides that can do anything about it are fighting each other, because one wants total power and the other group is made up of our free spirited protagonists.
Art: Wow. The first episode should give you an idea of the art style they choice for this show, and I have to say it is fantastic. I know that some people might be turned off by black paint strokes in the middle of the screen and dripping paint for a transition, but it works for me, if only because its very unique.
Sound: The sound is also fantastic and it compliments the tone and the visuals quite well.
Character: The characters that make up samurai girls start off one dimensional but grow into fully fleshed out people while the show itself grows in scope. I find this to be a pleasing formula and some how they pulled it off.
Enjoyment: Fun, funny and action oriented this show should if nothing else entertain you for its duration. But by no means will it leave you with any lasting impressions.

Overall: Macross 7 has to be the most polarizing macross series of all time. I defiantly give this show a 10 out of 10, but I understand that this is highly subjective. I will explain what the show has to offer and point out parts that you will love or hate.
Story: Macross 7 takes place some time after the origonal super dimensional fortress macross. For those of you that watched the original there is a fun surprise character wise in this for you. Macross 7 takes the spirit of the show, as in "Music can stop war" and makes it a
...
literal effect. Nekki Basara is a singer/songwriter/martial artist/ace macross pilot. He wants to push his music as far as it will go. As the show moves on the enemy this time wants to suck out human spirita. Basara possess the strongest spirita and can fend off attackers with his singing. Right hear if this concept annoys you, it stays thoughout the whole series. Personally I find it rather amusing that his singing can hurt his attackers, and even revive some of the men who have there spirita sucked out.
Art: For its day macross 7 looked pretty sexy. Now a days it might seem a bit dated, and the fact that it is almost 50 episodes with lots of space combat means that some animation is going to get reused. This should not affect your enjoyment as since one attack is the same as another attack, do you really need to see the same thing a slightly different way? If you do then this will annoy you.
Sound: Most macross shows are known for there music, but macross 7 is a bit more special in that regard. The show uses actual music from a Japanese band. Because of this (and because the music was already licensed at the time of the creation of the show), there are only a few songs sung and resung thoughout the show. New songs are added over time, but if you do not like the first song sung stop watching the show now, because you will hear that song over....and over....and over....and over... and did i mention you will hear it over....and over.... -ahem- Yes the music is repetitive in the sense that they sing alot, but its good rock music and I enjoyed it. Also the music is used as narration for the space battles like it is in other macross shows which is also very well done.
Characters: This show shines because of its characters and there complex interactions between not only each other but the whole network of relationships as a whole. Basara and his band have quite a back story for each one of them, not to mention back stories of some characters once they paired up. (this will make sense if you watch it). None of the characters are one dimensional, and they always make logical decisions based on what is happening around them. In other words no one does anything stupid just so that they can make a filler episode of cleaning up the mess. Nothing from this area should turn anyone off.
Enjoyment: Outstanding, when you combine good visuals with great sound and some awesome characters on a well throughout plot you get one hell of a ride. I actually like this Macross a lot better than the original. Id say its about tied in interest with frontier. If you like the music and dont mind repetitive space battle animation you are in for a treat.

Overview: Asobi Ni Kyuo is a fun light hearted tale about an alien cat girl from space. This quickly turns into a light ecchi anime with more steriotypical charecters than you can paw at.
Story: Giving the story a 4 is being kind. This show does two things that should never be mixed in the same show. It tries to take itself seriously, when the plot is "CAT GIRLS FROM SPACE", by attempting to explain the technology in detail. If your going to go with something that is overtop and just plain fun stick with that, dont try to explain it.
...
As for the actual plot its more about the relationships between the 3 main charecters than anything else.
Art: This is a pretty show. Most anime now a days are fun to look at if nothing else, and this one is no exception. That said there is nothing hear that is new or revolutionary. (not that there has to be).
Sound: The sound is good, but I can think of several shows that are more efficient in there use of sound combined with visuals. The show has the right visuals, but not a good synthesis from the two of them. I find the sound to be the weaker element.
Enjoyment: All the bad, or annoying things about this show aside. Things blow up, charecters get into fights and make up, this is a good example of keeping some ones attention while not really saying anything while doing so. For some reason this show IS fun to watch even if its all rather pointless and completely riddled with plot holes.
Final Note: I pick on Asobi no Kyuo because I think its a show that had a lot of potential, but with all the stereotypes, and the show taking itself to seriously in some aspects, while being completely crazy and nutty in other aspects makes for a some what disconcerting sensation, most noticeable at the end when the show realizes something needs to explode and they stretch the climax into 3 episodes whtn the problem could have been resolved in 5 minutes.

Overall: star driver is a very colorful and action oriented mecha anime which stars a red haired bishonen Takuto.
Story: What can I say, it has been done before, better. An organization on the island, Glittering Crux wants to unlock the power of the cybodies (the mechs) and use them for....Something. The cybodies can only be used in zero time, some alternate dimension, and Crux wants to break the powers of the 4 maidens on the island to be able to use cybodies in real space. This all sounds well in good, its just the execution of the whole concept is pretty subpar
...
for an anime being released in 2010.
-> Note: the reason for the low story marks is because the charecters dick around in school or the island and it is no were near as funny or fulfilling as other mecha anime, namely any Gundam show, or its much closer cousin full metal panic. If you have not seen full mental panic and are reading this, go see it. Its infinitely better than Star Driver.
Art: The visuals are fantastic. The cybodies are colorful and seem as powerful as they are made to seem within zero space.
Sound: The sound is good, but what really stands out is the music. Particularly the music when members of crux being to enter there cybodies. Also in the earlier episodes the fish girl songs combined with the regular music score create a 5th element type sythisius of sound and music that is simply perfect.
Characters: the characters are well portrayed, but they are fairly bland when all is said and done. There is not that much development side from the initial portrayal.
Enjoyment: despite its serious drawbacks with the plot for a modern mecha anime, star driver is a fun, flashy show that should keep you entertained for 20 mintues.

Overall: Panty and stocking is an insane coktail of vulger jokes and over the top hyper styalized insanity. This show actually shows quite a bit of origonality in its episode plots, and maintains the theme it establishes in episode 1 thoughout the series only getting better as it progresses.
Story: Panty and Stocking are angles who were kicked out of heaven for bad behavior (you already know this dont you). That is pretty much the gist of it, but worry not for the overall story is definatly not why you watch this show. That said each episode maintains its own story well, and
...
due to the episodes short nature, you are usually droped straight into the action which only ramps up in 10 mintues what most anime fail to do in 23.
Art: At first I was skeptical to call this a real anime, but dont let the art fool you like it fooled me, while it may not appere to be a traditional anime on the outside, the art style they chooce is perfect for the tone they are trying to set thoughout the show. There are a few moments were the charecters appere to be more traditional anime charecters. (and those sences will blow your mind...)
Sound: From the random noises to the awsome music selection this show keeps up the quality with music to match its other aspects.
Charecters: Although they are ham handedly charecterized, panty and stocking feel like real charecters with there own personality quirks.
Enjoyment: 10 hands down, go watch and episode and youll see.

Abstract: kara no kyoukai 1, is a visually griping thrillar master piece. With complex charecters and a web of supernatural events that permiates thoughout the series episode 1 is a good portrayal of wether you will enjoy the remaining 6 movies.
Story: 8, Shiki must unravel a mystery of female suicides that jump to there death, while at the same time uncover the fate of her childhood friend. The only thing holding the story back is that it moves rather slowly, and can be hard to follow the first time though. This is a series were rewatching helps piece the whole picture together.
Art:
...
10, Kara no Kyoukai is simply one of the most beautiful anime I have seen in a while. That said, most anime movies have a budget to beef the art up. Kara no Kyoukai however does not just have a good budget, but they use it in clever and highly artistic ways.
Sound: 9, the music is fantastic and matches the qualtiy and subtley of the art.
Charecters: 8, While the charecters in Kara no Kyoukai have there complexities, there personalites are fairly straight forward. Aside from background that you dont get until later the charecters are soild and feel apart of the world.
Enjoyment: 10, If you can accept the slow pace of the movie you should find it meaninful and connect with the world and form an initial connection to the main charecters that will only grow as you watch the sequals.
Overall: 10, The overall score comes from the overwhemling impact of the art, sound and the formula that sums the kara no Kyoukai movies. The first half of the show sets you up for the inveitable action sequance in which Shiki shows her skills, after which is followed by a solid resolution to the aftermath of that movies plot.
