[spoiler review]
Houseki no Kuni/Land of the Lustrous is pretty damn good and I'm gonna talk about why it is good the best I can.
I started the manga after finishing the anime; I've been wanting to watch the anime/manga for a while now, since I've heard lots of praise, and spoiler alert: it's really good.
Now, one of the best parts of the manga is the story. Being a bit similar to AOT, it has great worldbuilding and has foreshadowing to big mysteries planted in the beginning of the story, and the reveal is genre changing. The plot keeps you on the edge of your toes, and
...
Ichikawa does an amazing job at doing so. The premise is also quite unique, genderless gem-like people stuck on an island fighting moon people? Only Japan. Though, the story is a bit slower in the beginning, and some events that happen in the beginning feel really mundane and boring, though it is nothing compared to the later parts of hnk. Hnk is at its peak in the Invasion arc, which takes place in the last 20 chapters of the story. Phos' entire character has led up to this, and they lead an all out assault on Earth, showing how both amazing and despairing hnk can get.
ok the art is really great, like amazing. ESPECIALLY the spreads, I've saved countless panels due to Ichikawa's mastery over art. Her attention to detail in some of the giant spreads with many people are absolutely stunning. Her use of black and white creates a deep resonance of emotion in panels, it's honestly beautiful. The character's designs are also pretty great, especially phos and the lunarians. The only criticism I have is that it's sometimes hard to distinguish between the gems, since many have the same hairstyle/faces, which isn't helped by the similar uniforms the gems wear. It's also sometimes hard to figure out what's going on during an action scene, but they are minimal and the later scenes are much improved.
About the characters....they're pretty good. This is really the only real critcism I have of HNK, which is that the cast could be a bit better, not that it's bad. Most of the gems are decent and fullfill their role but many gems don't really have a lot of screen time nor do they have complex, well written characters.. Adamant is a pretty good antagonist and has a good dynamic with phos, along with Aechma. Cinnabar is a pretty good parallel to Phos. All around, they're pretty good, better than your average cast, but there could've been more development within the other gems. And then there's Phos. Holy shit. Phos is an amazing fucking character. In the beginning, Phos is innocent and naive, but as the story progresses, Phos changes a lot, literally and figuratively. They're influenced by things in their life, and it, well, changes them. Phos goes through drastic character changes along with their body changing. Phos goes from innocent/naive, to withdrawn/insecure, to insightful/thoughtful, to a bloody amalgamation. In detail, Phos becomes more withdrawn and quiet when their only friend goes to the moon right in front of them, while they were powerless. Their trauma increases when ghost quartz also goes to the moon, causing Phos to have a more unstable mental state. Losing a head, Phos kinda returns to their original self, but with added intelligence and insight. But that also makes them more manipulative and sneaky, pressure builds ands builds as Phos tries to have Adamant pray, to end all the suffering, but the gems dont allow them, either from denial or because they don't trust phos. This all leads up to 220 years of isolation until they are rebuilt, and everything turns phos into a depressing monster. They go on a rampage, killing a lot of gems and can't even recognise their original self. Phos' journey is one of the most soul-crushing things I have ever experienced, that and that it makes Phos a complex character.
So that's kinda it.
TL;DR: go read it, amazing story, art, and Phos is a goated protagonist. You won't regret.
sorry if this review was bad, i kinda suck at writing reviews but I just wanted to express my love for this series
{might update when hiatus ends}

"Let's just jump into it"-Phillip DeFraco
Story: Overall, the story of punpun felt a bit inconsistent and some parts felt meaningless, such as the Pegasus subplot and Seki's life. There was no real value it added to the main plot and kinda felt like something that was there to cool down the story. The 1st volume (VIZ edition) especially felt very boring and mundane. It does pick up a lot in volume 2, however the quality of the story does spike up and down quite a bit throughout the manga. There were definitely some great parts of the story, however it's overshadowed by the bad aspects
...
of it. 7/10
Art: What can I say, the art's just really god damn good. 9/10
Character: The characters in this story are meant to be flawed and morally grey. They are not good people. But they aren't really bad people too, which makes them very realistic. Punpun's thoughts are always very conflicted and his reactions are very realistic and sometimes dark, which is realistic. Punpun throughout the story devolves instead of being developed, which is pretty realisitic for many people. "“f there were a place lower than here, it would surely be hell." And yet Punpun is still pretty likeable and you want feel sympathetic for him and where his decisions have brought him to. Evangelion has tried realistic characters but failed, Shinji was a whiny crybaby and Asuka had trauma. They were realistic, yes, but they were not very likeable. Punpun in this case has done it very well. Other characters like Yuichi, Midori, and Punpun's mom are all neutral characters, they've all done horrible things and yet you still see the good side of them. 9.10
Enjoyment: I enjoyed it, parts could be slow at times but it was overall enjoyable. (No tears)
TL;DR: Punpun's story can be a bit mundane and lackluster at times but it makes up for it with it's amazing art and characters. 8/10
Side Notes: Punpun is one of my favorite protagonists now.

Includes spoilers
I know i'm late to the party, but here's my review.
Story: The concept is a very unique one, and pretty well executed as well. The majority of the series is occupied by the L arc, which was basically a huge cat & mouse chase. L's aggressive decisions forced light into very hard positions which he always got out of, and it was well written. The Near arc wasn't as bad as people said, in fact I enjoyed it more than the L arc (probably because I was spoiled for L's death which made me know that L wouldn't really be able to figure out
...
that Light was truly Kira) I enjoyed Near's more passive plays and him influencing the other task force members to suspect light. The Finale is god damn amazing, wraps up every loose end and ends with an emotional bang. I even felt bad for light when he was reminiscing his past time and regretted taking the notebook, it was beautifully executed and goes to show how the story can make you feel sympathy towards a serial killer. 9/10
Art: The art style all around is pretty great, the character designs and scenery were really good. At times the animation was unfinished but it was made up for by the very well animated scenes in big scenes like the finale. 8/10
Sound: The OPs/EDs for the anime were pretty nice. The OST is godly, every track pretty much perfectly fits the scene and the entire mood of the show. Also Light's Dub is done extremely well and the VA is able to portray Light's breakdown in the finale so masterfully. 9/10
Character: The cast all around were pretty down good. Notably Light & L. Light is an anti-hero who believes what he's doing is right by killing criminals. His motive is kinda justifiable and it's easy to see from his point to believe what he's doing is right and it makes sense that he would develop and ego and become a "god" L is also a very enjoyable character, has a quirky style and a weird personality, he isn't the deepest character but it doesn't make him a bad one. Same goes for the rest of the cast. They're all pretty enjoyable and I didn't hate any characters. The story made me worry about if the task force members would die, so that's a +. 8/10
Enjoyment: I found the L arc to be a bit mundane, but it was still decently enjoyable. The Near arc stepped it up a notch and i found it to be pretty enjoyable. And as you know the finale was a godsend. 8/10
TL;DR: Great concept and good storyline, amazing OST, masterful finale and great characters. Art could be unfinished at times and the L arc was a bit mundane.
Overall: 8.9/10 (rounded to 9)
Side notes: L's my favorite character, has my favorite anime finale ever which is tied with Code Geass's R2 finale.

Major spoilers for Elfen Lied (Read this review after completing the manga)
After completing the Elfen Lied anime, I decided to read the manga since it has a fully completed story. And it was definitely the right choice.
Story-The story in the beginning felt kind of bland and fillerish to me but maybe that's because the anime already covered the beginning volumes of the manga. Around halfway through the manga things start to really pick up and shift into high gear, having lots of twists and turns that make my heart ache. There are many unnecessary fanservice scenes and a god awful romantic subplot, but luckily the
...
romance subplot ends midway so overall I'd say the story is pretty good. 8/10
Art-This ones definitely more subjective but I do like the mangaka's artstyle for Elfen Lied. It feels a bit cartoony and cutesy but it doesn't worsen any graphic and shocking scenes, in fact it may make them feel more shocking. The art does indeed improve over time so I won't say the art makes the manga terrible, but the art isn't anything phenomenal either. 7/10
Characters-The mangaka does a great job at changing perspectives on a specific character and such. Like for example, Bandou is at first an asshole and a "villain," but there'll be times when you root for him and hate him again right after because of his actions. Same thing goes for Lucy, you sympathise with her past and it makes her actions somewhat understandable but there are times where you will hate her for what she's done, she even feels like the villain at times. This is very nicely done so where there is no black and white characters, Lucy can be seen as the villain for killing many innocent people but the Military can be seen as the villain for experimenting on Diclonius and experimenting on them However Kohta and Yuka are a different story. Kohta is really bland and your average "self-insert" protagonist and the only time he's showed pretty much any emotion was when he found out Lucy killed his sister/father, Yuka is the most hatable character in the series, she never shows a good side or acts nice, she always whines about Kohta loving Nyu and always abuses Kohta too. Overall, the characters are very well-written as you can shift your thoughts on them very easily without their personalities being changed dramatically and both opposing sides of the story have understandable reasons and no side is truly right, though there are a few bad apples. 8/10
Enjoyment-This one is of course the most subjective one, but I thoroughly enjoyed this manga, especially after the 1st half. Tensions rose high and many plot twists arose. The brutal tendency of the manga also made me immersed in it more since the mangaka wasn't afraid to touch upon these uncomfortable subjects, it really made me wonder who the real monsters were. I do wish that the "Nature vs Nurture" theme was more touched upon in the manga than in the anime, but it didn't bother me too much. 9/10
TL;DR-Elfen Lied is an amazing manga with great characters and a great story. There is no truly good or bad side since both sides have done bad things which I love. The characters can go from likeable to hatable within a span of one chapter while fitting into their personalities and motives. Kohta and Yuka are not very well written though, and the art is decent. The beginning of the story is also pretty slow and pace and relies on plot convenience at times, but that can be ignored after the 1st half of the story. 9/10
Side Notes: Favorite character was probably Kurama, since he felt like the hero most of the time in both the anime and manga. And also with all the bloodshed and nudity in this manga, i felt a certain peace to it and I can't explain it. It gets amplified much more with Lilium

EDIT: This is an older review and my reviewing skills were pretty meh back then so take this with a grain of salt
Kaguya-sama: Love is War is my currently my favorite romcom anime, and I think I have a good reason to like it.
Story-8: The story is mostly about Kaguya and Shirogane trying to get the other confess their love and usually get into crazy antics. A very unique sort of story
Art-7:The Art's pretty solid and has very good detail on the eyes. I really like the character design as well.
Sound-7: Really the only part where Love is War lacks in. The opening's pretty funky
...
and the show has some pretty nice soundtracks but nothing that really makes me feel it.
Character-8: The characters are not 2-dimensional and have a lot of personality in them which makes the show even more enjoyable
Enjoyment-9:It's always very enjoyable and fun to see what the student council will get into. You Never can really predict what's going to happen next.
Overall-9: The show's a blast to watch and I highly recommend this show to everyone.
