Although the story is a normal premise, it is very well developed. The pace is smooth and the story is a quick read. The couple dynamic is charming, and the way they get to know each other manages to communicate a lot of emotions. There were several moments where my heart fluttered, I really felt the butterflies in my stomach!
CHARACTERS:
Kumamori and Tajima are not complex characters, but they fulfill their roles well. She is a hopeless romantic, a bit childish and idealistic, while he is calm, practical and avoids any kind of sentimentality. I liked how throughout the story they both adopt aspects of
...
each other: Kumamori becomes more realistic and Tajima, while struggling, learns to express his feelings. The relationship between them feels realistic for their age and very tender. There are no major misunderstandings or unnecessary conflicts, which makes the romance develop organically.
Although a love triangle is introduced at one point in the story, it doesn't come off as forced or annoying. Rather than an obstacle, it works as a motivation for Tajima to take the initiative and express what he feels.
ART:
The first thing that attracted me to this manga was its art. The drawing is clean, sweet and very expressive, which helps transmit the emotions of the characters effectively. You can tell right away that it's a shoujo by the style of the strokes and the overall aesthetic. I especially liked how they portrayed Kumamori: her eyes perfectly reflect her dreamy, romantic personality, while Tajima has a rougher design that contrasts well with her. The backgrounds are not overly detailed, but they do their job without distracting from the story.
TOPICS:
The manga does not attempt to be deep or address big dilemmas, but to portray first love in a simple and beautiful way. It does so without falling into toxicity or forced situations, which is appreciated. There are no bitchy characters or absurd misunderstandings, which allows the relationship to move forward in a natural way. For the amount of chapters it has (12), the story unfolds well and leaves no loose ends.
PERSONAL OPINION:
The best part is the way the main characters fall in love. It's adorable to see how despite their differences, Tajima gives in at certain times just to make Kumamori happy. Their evolution as a couple is genuine and enjoyable. On the other hand, the worst part is that it feels short. In a way, this keeps the story from dragging on unnecessarily and losing its charm, but I was left wanting more. I grew quite fond of the characters, so I'll probably reread it (in fact, I'm already on my third time through).
If you are looking for a light, tender story with a relationship that develops without exaggerated drama, this manga is an excellent choice! It is not a masterpiece nor does it reinvent the genre, but it fulfills its purpose of entertaining and making you sigh with romance.

Ore Monogatari!!! has an extremely simple and easy-to-follow plot. You don't need to watch the whole series to understand the story; you could watch two random chapters and get the gist without a problem, showing the lack of any complexity in the characters and narrative.
We follow the relationships (friends and gf) of the main character, Takeo. It is understandable that at the beginning he felt he didn't stand a chance with Yamato due to the presence of Sunakawa, the typical handsome and popular boy. However, Yamato was clear from the start with her feelings, so there was never really any conflict or emotional tension to
...
generate anticipation. Everything stays flat throughout the episodes.
The series is entertaining if watched occasionally, but stretching it out to 24 episodes was excessive. There are no real conflicts to justify its length, which makes it become tedious over time. Had it been 12 episodes or less, it would have been a more enjoyable and satisfying experience.
Characters
Takeo is a kind and good-hearted main character, but the series overemphasizes his “gorilla” appearance. His tenderness lies in how he discovers love and friendship, but he remains a rather flat character, with no development that makes him truly memorable beyond his looks. On the other hand, Yamato seemed to be a character without nuance to me. Putting aside that she falls in love right away, her personality is reduced to being a sweet and tender girl, without much depth. I found her voice irritating and felt she was too childish for a high school student. While it's good that her feelings were never in question and that the classic love triangle was avoided, her role in the story is limited to being the reason Takeo is motivated.
Sunakawa was my favorite character. I liked how he understands Takeo and helps him navigate situations with less awkwardness. His standout moment for me was when he mentioned that he rejected all the girls who talked bad about Takeo because he didn't want to surround himself with people like that. Not that it's anything extraordinary, but that small gesture makes him a good friend.
The duo of Takeo and Sunakawa is the best thing about the series. Their dynamic is hilarious and has memorable scenes, like the forced kiss, which made me laugh a lot.
Art: The animation does what it needs to do to be visually appealing. There's nothing particularly noteworthy, except perhaps Takeo's overreactions and moments of comedy. I don't have much else to comment on in this regard.
Topic: The anime focuses on friendship and romance. It touches on the theme of prejudice as everyone assumes Takeo is intimidating because of his appearance, but upon meeting him they realize he is a great person. It also shows how, over the course of the story, Takeo learns to better express his emotions with Yamato, although I wouldn't say this development is particularly profound or groundbreaking.
Personal opinion: The best was the friendship between Takeo and Sunakawa. For me it's the most important relationship in the series and feels genuine, with moments of mutual support and affection.
The worst: The story is too flat. The lack of conflict causes it to become repetitive and unnecessarily drawn out. It would have worked better with fewer episodes. I went in with high expectations due to its good rating, but ended up being disappointed. I would recommend this anime to those looking for a simple and tender romance story without needing to pay too much attention. However, I would not recommend watching it in its entirety, as it can get boring.

From the very beginning the story is presented in a simple and straightforward manner. The premise is not particularly innovative: an outcast girl finds support in someone unexpected and through that relationship becomes stronger. She is abused because of her appearance, he is feared because of his fighting record. However, what stands out is the bond that forms between the protagonists through food, an element that not only serves as a connection, but also as a means of emotional expression and personal growth.
On a narrative level, the development is smooth and easy to read. With only 10 chapters, it is a quick story to consume,
...
but with a coherent progression. However, the plot twist towards the end feels unnecessarily dramatic and a bit forced for the nature of the story. While clues were left behind, the execution was rushed and lacked any real impact on the resolution of the plot.
About the FL: She is a likable character, whose most prominent trait is her love for food. At the beginning, she is somewhat reckless, but over time she learns to trust herself and stay true to her ideals. Her evolution is clear, though not particularly profound.
About the ML: He is the classic “troublemaker” who actually has a kind side. His relationship with Shizuka is what motivates her to grow and change her perspective on herself.
About the antagonist: The villain of the story is perhaps the weakest point. While it initially seemed like it would follow a more classic path (a former bullying victim who repeats the cycle of violence), the plot twist was too murky and abrupt to fit into such a short story. The issues introduced are resolved too quickly and without deep reflection, which detracts from its impact.
One of the most attractive aspects of the manga is its drawing style. The aesthetics are cute and expressive, allowing the characters' emotions to be conveyed effectively. In addition, the details in the food are visually appetizing and reinforce the importance of the gastronomic element in the plot, which makes the reading an immersive sensory experience. It is a manga that leaves you hungry and eager to try the dishes that the ML cooks.
The story deals with bullying and discrimination based on looks, showing shocking scenes of cruelty towards the protagonist. A particularly strong moment is when they try to force her to eat from the floor while insulting her, which generates a great emotional impact on the plot. However, the way in which the issue of being overweight is handled is somewhat superficial. Although the importance of health is mentioned, the fact that certain problems are solved simply because the protagonist gets thinner leaves an uncomfortable feeling.
Another interesting point is the dynamic of the first antagonist, which reflects how some victims of bullying can become aggressors in an attempt to regain power. However, this aspect could have been explored in greater depth.
Conclusion: Kyou no Ashura Meshi is a light read with a good dynamic between the main characters and an excellent use of food as a narrative element. Its greatest strength is the chemistry between the characters and their expressive art, but it suffers from an unnecessarily dramatic plot twist and a hasty resolution of certain conflicts. If you are looking for a short manga, with tender moments and a theme of personal growth, it is an enjoyable option. However, if you prefer stories with a deeper development and well-grounded twists, it may fall short.
