Story
5/10
Pretty average about a schoolboy suddenly obtaining powers accidentally in a apocalyptic setting.
Art
10/10
Absolutely great in every single episode, and it exceeded my expectations since this was from 2011. Fight scenes were awesome and very detailed. The character designs and camera angles are also outstanding.
Sound
...
10/10
As a person that is very particular and appreciates sound and music:
The OP and ED blew me away, truly great and a masterpiece. The songs fit it perfectly in death scenes and fights which makes it way more impactful and emotional for me. The soundtrack is also very nice and the sound effects of fight scenes are great, explosions and gunshots are awesome and impactful, makes it feel like a final boss fight every episode, unlike recent animes that just overuse distorted thuds and thwips with the distorted bass hits for impact sounds.
Character
8/10
*mild spoilers*
tldr: shu is definitely unlikeable in the first half, but the development in the second half was awesome
Shu started of as a weak and pathetic protagonist which makes the anime kind of unbearable in the beginning, but I have learnt to tolerate and enjoy the process of him learning and growing from his weaknesses and mistakes, showing us the reality of how it feels to be just a powerless 17 year old, suddenly having to bear the weight of his powers and wants to escape from reality and not face it like a man. Having being betrayed caused him to have trust issues, losing people that are precious to him, changed him to become strong and ruthless. Finally, he grew to be selfless - accepting everyone for who they are and bearing everything in stead of them, causing himself to suffer so that others do not have to.
Inori's personal growth occurs every episode as shu plays a big role in helping her grow,
Enjoyment
10/10
It's a hidden gem and a guilty pleasure of mine, as it reminds me of watching animes such as darling in the franxx, angel beats, rewrite, plastic memories, and i enjoy the amazing op and ed and there were plenty of fight scenes that i enjoy.
For me, the ending was able to make me feel sad and abit emotional, which I was pretty surprised.
Overall
8/10
I believe this is not an anime that everyone would enjoy, but you should give it a chance as it might be a hidden gem for you, instead of focusing on the cliches or the low ratings that others give.
However, if you are the type that enjoys good story and character development, this anime is not for you.
