I want to start this off by saying that the ending is not as bad a people make it out to be. (also, there are only 276 chapters in the manga not 292)
This isn't a shit post, this isn't a hate post, I'm not someone who's upset because my "waifu" didn’t get pick, this is just my thoughts on the series as a whole and what I genuinely believe this story is.
Domestic Girlfriend to me was a hard read because I went into it expecting the worst. I went into it knowing the general consensus regarding the ending, and I went into into it terrified
...
because I was essentially going to read something I would come to hate in the end. Thought I do not hate the story as a whole, the ending of Domestic Girlfriend is one of the worst endings I have ever seen in a series because it did a massive disservice to the rest of the story and everything it built up.
The series takes a massive turn around chapter 215 where everything becomes uninteresting, it starts to become a shell of its former self, and the story starts to become meaningless. Around chapter 250 the story takes an even bigger dive and the writing quality because essentially childish. Everything becomes predictable, nothing seems to have purpose (regardless of how much it tries to) and it overcomplicates everything written in the story and it just becomes dull.
The ending of Domestic Girlfriend tries to come off as a reward to the characters and their struggles throughout the series when in reality it throws away everything it's built these characters to be. There was always going to be a main girl and so there was always going to have to be a choice but the way it was handled, in my honest opinion as a fan, was not the proper way to do it.
Reading Domestic Girlfriend was definitely an experience to say the least. I was stressing myself over my reaction to the ending, it was eating away at me because I genuinely loved this series and it's characters and I've never felt the way I have before while reading a manga. All my thoughts and fears about the ending came true.
As much as I enjoyed reading this series and watching these characters grow I will never read this series again and it's a series i would not recommend somebody to get into.
