By no means am I an anime expert, but I thoroughly enjoyed Sonny Boy.
It's a super eccentric show that's almost Lord of the Flies esque, but the sci-fi and dimensional elements really set it apart from that book.
Story - 9
It has a fairly simple story in the beginning that gets more complex as you go on. It starts with different events following the main characters and begins to form a defined plot the further and further along you watch. It has a unique setting with cool powers, dimensions and ideas, and the story ends up exploring almost all of the possibilities in
...
the world.
Art - 10
I'm not super familiar with the animation team behind Sonny Boy, but the minimalism in the character and world designs is beautiful and the show wouldn't be the same without it.
Sound - 10
Like the art, the sound is pretty minimalistic. One thing I loved about this show is how they use sound in different dimensions. When the visuals look weird and alien, the sound matches the vibe.
Characters - 7
I love many of the characters in this show, but the downfall early on was the MC, Nagara. He has one of those stereotypical issues of being "too passive" and not caring about himself. Kinda a lowlife MC. He seems to get better later on in the show, but you kinda have to slog through the first bit to see improvement.
Enjoyment - 10
Again, Sonny Boy is a very unique anime. The cool visuals, the realistic characters, the intriguing plot and the sheer randomness of the show bring me back every week to watch. It's without a doubt one of the top anime of the season.
Overall - 9
Great anime.
