I swear to god I just don't like anything, even the things that I do enjoy. Death Note isn't horrible, as a matter of fact its very good and very fun if you don't think too hard about it. The best section is easily the first 10 or so episodes before they introduce more characters, and then you start to realize they fucked up. It's astounding, the parts of the story where its just Light and L battling it out in the free market of ideas and constantly trying to prove themselves right is easily some of the most fun I've had watching an anime.
...
The issues of Death Note don't rear their ugly head until after, spoiler, L dies. This part, along with the subsequent arc that is noticeably worse, is when everything starts to go downhill.
Wow, they killed L and brought him back as two kids who are even MORE interesting and I'm SIGNIFICANTLY more invested in! I'm lying, of course, nothing is done to make the audience feel this way. it takes some serious balls to just kill L then replace him with the same fucking guy who has an edgy brother. They're dumb. Mello in particular slays me. Every fucking time he takes a bite of that chocolate bar I'm faced with the difficult choice of believing if they made him stupid as fuck on purpose of it was an accident. Nothing is done to make Nier special, he rides the coattails of L, doesn't have any scenes where he stands out, and generally does nothing to make himself feel like a different character than L.
Easily the BIGGEST issue with Death Note is L's death and how it was handled. Getting Rem, a character who offered to kill L in episode 10, waited until episode 25 to do it. This retroactively changes about 1/3 of the entire story to being... pointless? Light said HE was going to kill L because this was a battle between humans and gods of death had no hand in it. Light concocts the biggest fucking plan that hinge on very very hyper-fine circumstances to prove his innocence just to end up... right where he left off, with nothing new to deduce L's identity. Sure, he did it to prove his innocence but that was only solidified due to fake rules he placed in the death note which L was going to disprove. This ends up forcing Rem's hand, killing L, which is something Light said he wanted to do himself. Is he stupid? Does he know he just could've skipped the whole song and dance by killing L from the safety of his bedroom?
Despite this, Death Note is still fun. The OST is really good, the beginning is genuinely peak, even the dumb parts are enjoyable if you shut your brain off. Watch this in English btw, the English dub of Death Note is truly a work of art. Light sounds like he's on the verge of a nervous breakdown in every line he speaks and L sounds as disinterested as all hell. The best lines of this show are exaggerated in English and I will die on this hill.
tl;dr 10/10 would show this to my boyfriend again

I remember reading a lot of yaoi when I was younger and discovering my sexuality. I read a lot of trash, like terrible trash, and was very confused as how these authors thought gay people worked. As a bi man who has dated a man before, I fell like I can see past the allure of "oh my goodness, this boy is kissing another boy!1!11!" that most BL relies on.
Foremost, I think I should give my opinion on the manga. It is very very okay! Its not bad, but I also don't think that because it doesn't really do much wrong makes it good. it

didn't blow me out of the water, but its not trashy like most BL manga I read when I was a very confused 16 year old. The romance is okay, the characters are very standard, the yaoi curse of everyone being down bad for their male friends is still here. I think the biggest crux of the manga is that it kinda... rushes? Instead of focusing on the romance between 2 characters, it just lets everything happen in a chapter or two then moves on. It tries to be a lot while not being amazing at any of them, feeling more like a collection of sub plots without an overarching narrative. The best thing that exemplifies this is the whole, yknow, suicide thing. Its revealed, doesn't go too in depth, then gets resolved and never really brought up again. Incredible.
I've been pretty negative but honestly what gets me is that its kinda cute at times. The art is good, I'm a bit of a music nerd so the band aesthetic is an easy sell to me, and its not something I constantly roll my eyes at. Its crazy how its just like a straight romance manga but with boys instead of being a weird sex kink for perverts that makes you want to take a long, cold shower after reading it. I just kinda wish there was a bit more to it...

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a lot of things to a lot of different people, perhaps this is just the nature of what kind of anime it is. A lot of people have said quite a bit about it, and a lot of it is true, Neon Genesis Evangelion is fairly pretentious, unnecessarily perverse, and dare I say... kinda cringe ngl. However, I remember really liking it, probably due to my personal history with it. I watched Evangelion when I was fairly young, probably too young to be watching Evangelion in the first place. I remember thinking that it was quite strange, not understanding a lot

of it, and that the robots were cool as hell. Needless to say, it had quite a profound impact on 14 year old me. The biggest thing that I remember when I first saw it was that I felt similarly to quite a few of the characters, and it helped me get through a tough time. It showed me that even though life sucks and it hurts every now and again, there is always a reason to live and to keep fighting.
Recently, I rewatched Evangelion, something I wanted to do for a while, to see if it was as good as I remember it being. The second time through, I saw the anime more for what it is more than what I wanted it to be, unlike what my younger self did. Surprisingly enough, it held up pretty well. A lot of the action was still great and entertaining to watch, the music still goes way harder than it needed to, the designs of the angels and Eva's were still peak, and the emotional moments hit pretty well. Overall, in my overly biased opinion, Evangelion is still probably my favorite anime tbh. Despite this, I was also able to notice some things that I didn't notice when I first watch Evangelion all those years ago. Some episodes (mainly talking about Jet Alone) were kinda boring and end up not being important... like at all. I also think some scenes are just a tad bit longer than they should have been. But the biggest, and most egregious, thing that I noticed was just how creepy and perverse parts of it are and for that reason alone I can't really recommend it to people. It's one thing to show some tiddies, its another thing to go into psychosexual theory with 14 year olds. I understand that these parts play into understanding characters, but god damn my guy it felt like a bit much even though it was a small portion of a bigger narrative.
The bigger narrative, meaning the actual plot, is perhaps the most polarizing part of Evangelion, you'll either love it or hate it. It's muddy, confusing, esoteric, and needlessly symbolic to a fault. After the end of it, you are left with significantly more questions than answers and you are gonna have to go look at the wiki if you really want to know what happened. With all that said, I actually really liked it. I can get down with dumb and weird things happening. That's just how it be.
tl;dr: its my favorite anime so its okay i guess....
