Maybe because I went into this movie with high expectations because of Makoto Shinkai's previous works, that I was so goddamn disappointed. It lowkey tilted me at how mediocre the movie is. For a movie directed by such an infamous name, I really did not expect to finish it thinking "Is that it?". Also this review is NOT spoiler free.
Firstly to get it aside, yeah the movie has nice visuals and a good soundtrack. CGI was kinda ass like the worm looked like a huge red c*** sometimes and the cars and the train station background people were goofy, but it is what it is.
...
Just generic comments.
Now moving on. Most of the cast besides Suzume is pretty one dimensional, with Souta (the chair), pretty much just being the token hot guy, who doesn't really do anything but chase a cat and parkour as a chair. The relationship between the two is even worse, where Suzume is pretty much extremely down to die for the guy she just met. In the scene where Suzume talks to Souta's grandpa, she says "Whether one lives or dies is a matter of luck", which is definitely a viewpoint I can resonate with, having lost people close to me, and well makes sense for a character like her. But this is immediately followed with her crying and saying that even though she accepts that Souta's fate was that of becoming the coldest guy 🥶🥶🥶, she's "afraid of a world without Souta". It's meant to show that she doesn't want to lose anymore people she cares about. But cmon, you've only known the guy for like 2-3 days and he was a chair for 90% of it, and you love him THAT much.
The only nice theme of the movie would be Suzume's revisiting of her trauma and the healing of her inner child and pain that she has held within her. I've seen people even say the movie is good because the plot is not spoonfed to you. But... it literally is. It's pretty easy to comprehend that she still has trauma from losing her mother, and then she revisits her destroyed hometown to face this said trauma. She then finds her child version and gives her the chair, meant to be a symbol of her coming to terms with her mother's death by letting go of her attachment to the item. But despite this grand message being such an integral part of the story's ideas and themes, it felt like the greater task at hand was Suzume trying to rizz up the hot anime guy, chase cats and destroy the killer worms...
These themes of trauma are really only looked at towards the end of the movie, and because of this, the pay off just feels totally wrong. The movie's main plot was very mediocre and straight forward, where the two leads just go across Japan clearing worms over and over again. The audience is made to believe that the relationship between the two leads and their need to stop the earthquakes is important, will have a twist or just have anything substantial, but for this main plot point literally nothing happens other than them placing keys into worms. Suzume's trauma and emotions from losing her mother were not fleshed out very well, which may make sense saying that it happened to her 12 years ago. Some may also say it's because Shinkai wanted to show a more uplifting and liberating view on trauma, but for me it made the impact of her coming-of-age to feel really lackluster.
Perhaps if I knew about the context of the 2011 earthquake prior to watching the movie, maybe I would've felt a bit more. I definitely think this movie would resonate a lot more with the Japanese people, and I respect the movie for touching on something which still affects people today in a manner which can express these people's emotions.
Overall, the movie felt pretty bland, the message was nice though, but not enough to salvage the rest of the film for me. And I can't believe Daijin did all that for Suzume to still not care. Daijin was a better friend than Souta could ever be. RIP goat cat. He deserved a better owner.

Bocchi the Rock is probably the best music CGDCT slice of life coming-of-age anime to be made in this decade. It's soundtrack, animation, comedy and plot all aid it in becoming the gem of this season and probably the year.
In its simplest form, Bocchi the Rock is a show about Bocchi playing the guitar. But something special about her character and her interactions within her band, expand this show into something much more memorable. Maybe this show strikes harder for me because I too play the guitar, but having not-touched it in 2 years and this show reinvigorating my passion for it, already says a
...
lot about how integral and well-thought out the music and characters are within this show.
Bocchi is a character that represents our desire to improve, to prove to everyone and ourselves that we are capable of achieving our goals if we actively make steps towards that goal. When people say that they "relate to Bocchi", I find it funny, because this creates the picture that Bocchi is just a stereotypical introvert character to the likes of Komi-san etc. But this is further from the truth.
By saying you relate to Bocchi, who yes is very shy and sheltered, is almost an insult to the key aspect of her character. Bocchi is someone who constantly battles with her social anxiety, because of her extroversion at heart. Bocchi wishes to have fame and fortune, to be acknowledged, and this journey to overcome her anxiety is cleverly shown throughout the anime. The creators of this show has made it so this progress is not straight out told to the audience in a life changing event, but slowly through her performances and interactions with the crowd and her friends.
Through Bocchi's guitar playing we grow to understand these intentions I just stated. Her desire to be accepted is contradicted by her social anxiety, but her guitar is an outlet which allows her to create her own individuality. There are consistent moments in the anime where Bocchi steps up and overcomes her anxiety to show her passion, which are the moments which define this show to be so much greater than others. Her character is one which is throughout the show expected for failure, but by being placed in situations which a paradoxical to her very nature, and seeing her overcome these difficulties through her music and determination is something that strikes your heart deeply. Bocchi as a character is in reality not your stereotypical introvert, but a representation of those without the confidence to achieve their goals and connect with others, and the gradual process which one undertakes to progress to someone who can feel accepted and proud of themself.
Along with the brilliant characterisation of Bocchi, the show is amplified by the score, with 14 songs (that you can listen to on Spotify under their band name) adding to the atmosphere in each performance and making sure your post-anime depression is supported with enough content. Not only is the music in the show great, Cloverworks clearly portrays how great of an adaptation they have made and how much this series was a passion project for them. The show is riddled with visual gags which are just genius, (like Bocchi turning into a 3D model in a T-Pose and flying into cubes) which somehow makes the show feel more in-tune with our reality. Bocchi's anxiety becomes something comedic and less of a nuisance as the cast also react to these breaks in animation, which make it all the more funny. If you were to take time to look at the source material as well, Cloverworks has added so much to the original source and I can't comprehend how creative they have been in making this anime. There are also transitions between shots in reality and the anime, as well as the entire anime being shot in real life locations of Shimokitazawa, such as the club location and the restaurants and stores. The animation in this show is truly utilised as a medium for the animators' imagination and is evident in how well the show came out in the end.
Overall, Bocchi the Rock is a remarkable anime this season, with her dynamics with the band and her determination to come out of her shell causing you to become attached to her progress as a guitarist. Bocchi the Rock is an anime I will treasure greatly for bringing me back into music and also being a show that uniquely showcases a realistic (but satirically exaggerated) portrayal of how people can overcome their anxieties by embracing the traits that make them themselves.

bro wtf is this man. mf kazuya legit attempted to confess in chapter 170 and now its chapter 203 and jackshit has fucking happened. ive been following this manga since the anime and holy crap man the author just wants to keep it going for so fucking long. how is this even 200 chapters long, every single progression gets immediately cockblocked in the first frame of the next chapter. just stop milking the goddamn series we know mizuhara likes kazuya and kazuya likes mizuhara so stop making them afk characters and make some shit happen. I just want to see them get together in the
...
end and the author knows everyone is reading weekly for the same reason. no matter what trash he puts out we will still be there to read it because we invested too much time into waiting for something to happen. he's given us purely ass and titties for the past 10 chapters, even though we were so so close to them finally getting together. just end the goddamn manga man otherwise this series is gonna lose all sentimental attachment.
That's what i fucking wrote in September and i rated it a generous 7. guess what, its still the fucking same shit. Hopefully this manga ends in like 2 weeks CAUSE HOLY SHIT this is so goddamn BAD

You pull up to One Piece thinking it's about some stretchy guy who wants to find some lame ass treasure, but in reality you enter the most fucking amazing god piece of writing world. this show is legit better than any shounen, romcom wtv im fucking love one piece. its portrayed childish but battles deep asf themes and everything is linked and the plot is so deep, every arc is an adventure, every moment feels like you're with the mugiwara no ichimi. One piece legit makes me smile my dick off like why is this so goddamn good. I watched it because I myself wanted
...
to experience this journey, not recommended or planned to watch, it was just a random interest and i don't regret any of it. omfg and even though the pacing is pretty shit in new world, i dont care because it is so goddamn peak man. legit goated and every ost legit puts me in the feels or gets me hyped like the good moments in the show are uncountable. I have to say don't watch one piece for the fights, it's not about the fights, if you're braindead asf then just watch like dbs or naruto or some shit if u want goated fights. The fights are mediums for the storytelling and the progression of characters instead of state of the art animation but 0 backbone anime battles. not saying the fights are bad because wano has had me creaming every single second in terms of production quality. Characters are just so lovable and every arc leaves you satisfied with a smile on your face, and it's just so nice seeing each character face their problems and how Luffy always pulls up when shit matters most. Every character on the crew is just so fleshed out more than any other side characters I've ever seen, it truly feels like you know them personally. For me, being on this journey is something I will never regret. Every mystery just gets me hyped asf to find out more about. I fucking love one piece and its not fucking mid you dogs.
I'll be waiting for you at the Land of Wano! Come at any cost!

This season of AOT will always be everything I wanted in an anime. Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2 is everything you have been waiting for in AOT. If I was able to have this show end here and now, my life would feel so much more complete. This season did everything we needed and wanted in this wonderfully built world. Moral dilemma, our eternal struggle to free humanity, to find what is truly behind the walls, to finally know what is in the basement. Every single moment of this season will give me chills for the rest of my life. All of our
...
questions answered yet asking more at the same time. I will never forget the sacrifices that were made to get here, the perseverance the scouts took in order to finally reach Umi Da.
Story and Character 10/10
Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2 ultimately is the peak of Attack on Titan story telling. We are given a beautiful depiction of human sacrifice and humanity's constant battle for freedom. We are given insight into a whole other world, a world which is just as unfair and just as cruel. Our main character after reaching his goal realises the freedom from the walls was a cruel lie. We witness the moral dilemma faced with the serum and the nature of leadership and human selfishness and selflessness.
Art 10/10
Wit's animation can never cease to amaze me. CGI Colossal not very nice, but all in all a perfect cinematic masterpiece.
Sound 10/10
Opening - Gets you hyped up every single goddamn time
Ending - Yeah its nice not very memorable but it doesn't matter at this point
OSTS - GODDAMN SHINZOU SASAGEYO BEYOND THE LIGHT WILL GIVE ME THE GODDAMN CHILLS. DEDICATE YOUR HEARTS, HEISHI YO TATAKAEEEEE.
Enjoyment 10/10
This is peak fiction
Overall 10/10
This season of Attack on Titan changed the game of the show. The ending of the manga is a tragedy but part 1 of AOT will always hold such a special place in my heart. We lived and fought with the Survey Corp and we saw the cruelty of the world and kept moving forward to find our freedom.
