This movie does a great job of balancing the two types of story elements in SpyxFamily; cute family scenes and exciting action sequences. The themes and character development feels natural to the series while still keeping in mind that this is a spin-off movie, with references to some season 1 episodes present to further connect to the series.
That said, some of the plotlines fell a little flat (Yor’s in particular) which keeps me from giving a top score. It’s tough to make a storyline that fits with the show without feeling like it’s either essential to the plot or too obtrusive, so I’m giving it
...
a pass even though it wasn’t to my taste, as it does realistically fit SpyxFamily as a whole quite well.
As for the animation, this movie has a lot of fun sequences that play with animation styles. One sequence in particular had the whole theater laughing, so it’s definitely a fun viewing with lots of creative energy poured into it.
Overall, this is a solid movie for fans of SpyxFamily. Watching the first season, or at least a few episodes, gives all the context for the movie’s plot, and the tone and pacing are quite similar to the show, so if you’ve seen a few episodes and liked what you saw, this movie will be fun to view.
