Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is the only anime I've watched without skipping a single opening or ending, and that alone says a lot about its aesthetic, its music/soundtrack, and its ability to create an immersive atmosphere true to its established style — Cyberpunk. What captivates me most about this genre is the aesthetic and how relationships evolve in this dystopian world. Throughout its first six episodes, the anime delivers this in a satisfying way.
From episode seven onwards, the pacing changes, which for me is more a matter of personal taste, as I prefer something more concise. However, the scenes between David and Lucy always kept me engaged.
...
What touches me the most about their relationship is the pressure that this chaotic society places on young people, forcing them to grow up too quickly. Neither Lucy nor David had the chance to experience a normal relationship, and seeing David smile in the final moments of the anime left me deeply saddened, as it reflects the tragedy of this accelerated growth.
Regarding the design, what stood out the most to me were the female characters. Lucy, Kiwi, and Dorio truly steal the show, constantly challenging the viewer. Even if you like characters like Maine or David, the women end up being the most memorable in the story.
All in all, I had a great time watching it, and now I want to learn more about the theme. I'm really excited to dive into the game as well!
