It was never really my intention to read or watch Gakuen Alice, but while searching for characters Romi Paku voiced, I found out that Natsume was voiced by her so I gave it a go. I didn't know what to expect, so when I finally started watching it, I was surprised and here's why:
Story:
The beginning of the story is simple and very shojou-like where a young female protagonist discovers she had magical powers and attended a new school (sort of like Kamichama Karin). To be honest, if I wasn't kept slightly entertained by the anime, I would've put the manga down imediately. The story remains
...
simple for about 4 volumes and then the plot starts to thicken and darken. At this point, it starts to become more like a 12-13+ manga, unlike the anime, which was aimed at a younger audience. The story has a nice balance of 'happy' and 'sad' moments, leaving hooked and wanting to read more. The parts of the story which really stuck with me were the relationships between Mikan and her friends. As the story progresses through the darker arcs, you begin to symphathise with them and understand their feelings (I cried during one part). The story has everything - romance, comedy, betrayal, fighting - you name it and it has it, which is one of the reasons why I continued reading it. So overall, if you can muster enough motivation to read past volume 4, the story is worth reading through and is very well thought out (to the point where it starts to become unpredictable).
Art:
The art at the beginning (as with most mangas) isn't as good as the art in the later volumes. However, as you read through you begin to realise that each character is growing and this is clearly shown in the art. For exaple, if you compare the art of chater 1 to chapter 140, you can see that each character has grown and they start to look more middle school-like. The expressions are drawn really well (although the tears can be too thick.)
Character:
Ah, the characters. This'll take a while. Each character plays an important part in the manga. I won't go into detail with Mikan since she's the protagonist, but the more I read, the more I believe that Mikan is growing up. She goes through a lot throughout the story and soon starts to think for herself instead of being the spoilt girl she was at the beginningof the story. Hotaru, Mikan's best friend, doesn't really chage much in attitude, but as the story progresses, she becomes more open to her feelings and sharing her ideas with others. Ruka - you can't help but feel sorry for him - is a great asset to Natsume as a best friend as Natsume only tells Ruka about his thoughts and feelings. In a way, he was able to help Natsume out of the darkness. And Natsume, being the main male character, has one of those close-to-darkness stories enveloping him. Natsume changes the most in the series and I becomes probably the most noble character. His character changes drastically, but he doesn't turn into one of those who-blush-whenever-they-see-the-girl-they-love types (like Syaoran) and its quite surprising what he decides to do and how he does it. He is one of those characters who you can't help but want to root for. Anyways, many character's pasts are revealed, leading to character development and there is a wide range of different characters, both good and bad.
Enjoyment:
I enjoyed reading Gakuen Alice very much. The comedy was hilarious is some places and the gets really interesting. Each character, with their own unique personality, makes this manga enjoyable (especially when Tsubasa teases Ruka and Natsume~)
Overall:
Need you ask? Although I wasn't very satisfied with how the anime turned out, I can say with certainty that the manga is worth reading. To really feel for the characters you have to read it slowly and with feeling. The art is not the best, but very good nonetheless. Characters are lovely and entertaining. Story is one of the best and most indepth out there. I would recommend this to any shojo manga lover as well as those who like stories with a lot of turmoil.

I don't write many reviews, but I really wanted to write one for Munto tv (Sora wo Miageru Shoujo no Hitomi ni Utsuru Sekai).
Story: 8
The main protagonists in this anime are Yumemi and Munto. Yumemi can see the islands of another world: the Heavens. Everyone else cannot see these islands, and Yumemi hates the fact that she does not see the same sky as them. Munto,on the other hand, is the king of the heavens and he is aware that the heaven's life energy, Akuto, is running out and sets off to find another source of energy in the normal world where Yumemi lives. The
...
story isn't too complicated, but when war breaks out between the magical kingdom and the heavens, it becomes more complicated and sometimes hard to follow.
Art: 7
I expected the art to be much better in the tv series as the ova was made a few years back, but was disappointed. The close up shots of character's faces are drawn well, but otherwise, it was crudely drawn. The art didn't live up to my expectations of kyoto animation (clannad, air, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu).
Sound: 8
The music fitted the anime quite well and I quite enjoyed the calmness some of them brought when Yumemi was taken to the heavens. The battle music is also fitting and reflects the desperatness of the situation.
Character: 9
The characters were memorable, although they weren't explored as much as I had wanted. Yumemi's character changes slightly as the series goes on and I could see that she becomes a much stronger character, which is to be expected of a protagonist. Munto's character is proud and responsible, which I cound easily tell the first time I saw him and you can tell what he would do anything in his power to restore the Akuto to its normal state. The characters were easy to love and it wasn't long before I wished Munto and Yumemi were a couple.
Enjoyment: 9
Overall, I thought the anime was quite enjoyable. The story wasn't so complicated that I had to rewatch it a couple of times to understand it and the characters were very loveable.Theres a bit for everyone in this anime\; action, romance, humour, fantasy etc.
Overall: 8
Overall, the anime was worth watching and I would recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy. Its an enjoyable anime and one which you'll rmember for times to come. Its story is slightly similar to Neo Angelique Abyss, in which the female protagonist is the key to saving the world and although the art could be better, is of high quality.

Story.
This anime has a great story, with Edward and his younger brother, Alphonse travelling together to find the Philosipher's stone in order to regain the bodies that they have lost. The story may sound like one of those where you travel around the world to find something and the story could be never-ending-like Inuyasha, but it's not like that at all. Every episode that takes place has parts of the story in it, there are ome filler parts but not filler episodes. Each episode takes Ed and Al one step closer to finding the Philosipher's Stone.
To me, this anime has the best story I've known
...
so far.
Art.
Well, Since Bones made the anime the art would obviously be great. Everything is drawn in great detail;especially the parts when the charcters use alchemy are in some kind of fight. The art in the fights show great impact and are not just some random lines which some animes tend to have in fight scenes.
Sound.
The sound? Nothing more can be said about the sound except that it's beautiful. Each BMG track fits the scene perfectly, the music can even reflect upon the character's emotions as well! Near the begining and the end of the anime, a very sad, yet peaceful song is sung by Ed and Al, which reflects upon their feelings-very soothing but once you hear it you would want to cry! The sound is very emotional as I have already said and I know no person who dislikes the music of FMA.
Character.
Alot of developement is shown in each character. The best thing about the characters is that it is not only the main character who gets developed. In this anime, nearly all the characters that are involved with the story have thier own roles in the story; even the bad guys! I'd definately give this a 10 as each character has a tragic past which again makes this a very epic and emotional anime
Enjoyment.
Overall, Fullmetal Alchemist is a very enjoyable anime indeed. Although, it is and tragedies, it has some enlightments which are nice to watch (which are not fight scenes) and even through action scenes Ed makes the scene look humerous and enjoyabe, so I give this a 10 as well.
I gave the Fullmetal Alchemist anime a 10 overall, simply because there is no other anime like it that I have watched. Each and every episode pulls you into the character's story which gives you a pleasurable feeling. And best of all, for once in your life you have a meaning to live...
