The story is complete and utter trash.
SPOILERS FOR SHIPPUDEN FINALE AND THIS MOVIE.
The Naruto series has never been particularly well written with regards to romance. The Naruto-Hinata love story was already stretched so thin across the series, here we see it stretched even further as an excude to draw audiences into this lazy attempt at a movie.
If it wasn't for the love subplot resolution there would be absolutely no reason to watch this movie, and even with that subplot resolution I still wouldn't really recommend this movie.
The whole movie stinks of filler material. A villain is pulled out of thin air and given powers which
...
don't scale to the rest of the Naruto universe; by all reasoning this villain should be significantly weaker than Kaguya whom Naruto has already beaten but for plot armour reasons the villain is a struggle.
To help build up tension they even retroactively pull a giant chakra laser canon out of thin air and put it one an arbitrary time limit after which it will kill off the entire main cast, spectacularly lazy writing.
Hinata is repeatedly reduced to a thin damsel-in-distress, culminating in being locked in a literal bird cage to watch on helplessly as Naruto fights to save her. Hinata has so little agency in the film it would be laughable if it wasn't so sad.
We even get a forced and unnecessary Sasuke appearance, are the writers even trying?
This film is held up by its sad attempt at a romance resolution and the pretty art direction.
The scale feels forced, like they are trying to create a spectacle and scale to compete with the Shippuden ending.
Story: hahahahahahaahahahahahahahaha, no.
Art: Pretty, well drawn, although at times the scale feels a bit forced.
Sound: Nothing particularly memorable, but maybe I missed a hidden gem.
Characters: Reduced to thin shadows of their former selves.
Enjoyment: ... a let down.
Overall:
Giving this a numeric rating was hard.
I was going to go with 4 but the description for that is "decent" which is too high a praise.
3 is "poor" which is getting closer.
2 is "dreadful".
Somewhere between 2 and 3 seems about right.
Actually, they messed up the romance resolution arch, showing the wedding largely monocoloured and in the background during the credits.
Dreadful it is, 2.

Within a few minutes of starting it I started to get the same awkward vibes from the CGI that Knights of Sidonia had, sure enough it is by the same group.
Even pushing aside the CGI, I found the whole thing to be a bit of a mess. The story was extremely simplistic, rushed, and full of tropes and stereotypes - I was able to predict all the major plot points long in advance.
I really wish they had done more with this, the setting was original and gave them so much to work with, but instead of writing complex characters and an interesting conflict they just
...
sprinkled in a few common tropes, put a ribbon on it, and called it done. It ends up being a thin and pretty mindless action movie, but the CGI makes much of the combat difficult to follow - I had to keep rewinding and pausing to figure out what the show was trying to show me.
The characters were thin, the pacing was a mess, the story didn't seem to have many original elements beyond the setting.
Story 3/10 - bleurgh
Art 7/10 - the world was visually interesting to look at if you could ignore the janky CGI
Sound 6/10 - decent sound design, nothing that stood out either way, at times a bit too tropey
Characters 3/10 - bleurgh
Enjoyment 6/10
Overall 6/10
I think the biggest downside of this movie is that it is a mediocre way of likely spoiling good chunks of the manga, I kind of wish I hadn't watched this and had instead just read the manga.

An absolutely beautiful masterpiece in all but a few regards.
Voices of a distant star tells the tale of two lovers, separated by time and space whose only connection is through txt messages which arrive at exponentially increasing delays, to the point where a message is sent wishing happy 24th birthday, from a 15 year old me.
Voices of a distant star is the end result of getting a perfect love story, trimming off all the excess fat, and shrinking it down to 25 minutes of raw emotion.
This was a very hard anime to rate, if you were to take this 25 minutes and compare it to
...
the same length of time in any other anime, Voices of a distant start would win hands down, but because its so short when it came to the end, I was just wishing it would continue for even just another 20 minutes. It left me feeling satisfied but not quite fulfilled.
I can see what 'they' tried to do with this anime, purify and distill it, and in that regard it was pulled off flawlessly. The one problem I have is I feel that the characters drew the short end of the stick and at times, the storyline felt quite rushed.
The art style in this anime is just so beautiful it really does justice to the storyline, although the storyline feels like it could have been developed a little more, Voices of a distant star has some absolutely amazingly breathtaking scenes that I never thought I could learn to appreciate within 25 minutes.
Voices of a distant star is the perfect example of how even within 25 minutes, something beautiful can occur, but because of this it left me wanting more which is why I give it a 9, although with an added 20 minutes it could have easily been a 10.
A truly memorable anime and one that I highly recommend.

This being the first subtitled anime I have endured from start to finish I found it different, but this did not hinder my enjoyment one bit.
New year's eve, three unsuspecting parents, all homeless, a homo, an alcoholic and a runaway teenager find an abandoned child while rummaging through garbage. In their quest to find the mother, they find themselves and what they have been looking for all along, a family.
Definitely worth watching and it has something for everyone, a beautiful drama with adventure and a few dashes of comedy here and there, but only when appropriate and does not interfere with the action or
...
storyline one bit.
A tale of compassion that shows even those with nothing, have something to give.

I added this to my anime list, and a few days later I found myself in gamesman (my local anime dealer) and to my surprise, a copy sat on the shelve in front of me, I decided right then and there, knowing very little about it, that I was not leaving the store without it.
And boy, was that a great decision.
The girl who leapt through time tells the tale of a young girl who gains the ability to literally leap through time. At first she uses it for her own needs, but eventually she takes on the problems of everyone around her, bearing the weight
...
of the world on her shoulders, until it all comes crashing down around her.
I really enjoyed this movie because I felt the actions being depicted on the screen, I couldn't take my eyes away, the first anime where I didn't hit stop until ALL the credits had finished rolling. Everything from the sound and art style to the storyline help draw the viewer into this beautiful tale of friendship, romance and morality.
A true 99 minutes of perfection.

No spoilers should be found in this review :)
This is also my first so hopefully it is not too shocking >.>
Paranoia agent is epic simply because of the way the story is told, instead of drip feeding and making you want more like most anime, paranoia agent throws you random parts of the meal and its not until the end of the last episode that you feel truly satisfied. It is at this point that you finally appreciate paranoia agent.
When I first saw that paranoia agent was only 13 episodes long I wondered, what kind of storyline can you fit into 13 episodes, but now
...
with hindsight I realise that any more episodes would have actually degraded the quality of the anime.
Paranoia agent is the story of a string of seemingly unrelated crimes, their victims and the detectives put on the case.Simple enough.
Paranoia agent's format is really what sets it apart from the rest. With an episode being dedicated to each victim/detective and portraying their feelings and experiences on the events occurring. The thing that makes this amazing is you end up seeing the story from *everyones* points of view while never detracting from the actual storyline. Paranoia agent manages to be both off topic and interesting, and when it comes to a close you realise that it was never off topic to begin with and that every single second of the anime was required and has its own little place in the whole.
I have to note that Paranoia agent is probably the hardest anime to give a rating to with the number system, the story is very epic but at sometimes slow, but rightfully so. The end of the series is absolutely amazing, and quite sudden, which only amplifies the level of quality prevalent within the anime.
I give paranoia agent an 8 overall simply because some points didn't really feel interesting, but they are given out of necessity which I later appreciated. Paranoia isn't perfect, but it is definitely very interesting to watch, I would say its more of an experience than a series. If you want to watch an anime that is in its own category entirely, then paranoia agent is the right one for you.
